What I'm looking for is: - Fairly cheap price. $100 - $150. - Decent speed. - 40GB-64GB preferably
I was considering buying the Kingston SSDNow V-Series 64GB for $90 (on sale here for $50 off), but some people say it is considerably slower than other SSDs. What I'm wondering is will this still be an enormous difference in comparison to my barracuda, and is it considerably slower than others hence should I look towards a faster SSD?
I'll be using it as my boot drive (windows 7) and probably just the few main programs/games that I play (<40GB).
I'm Canadian so I'd be looking at sources like NCIX/Newegg/MemoryExpress.

OCZ Agility 2. Very fast, $140, 90 GB.
PSYCHE. Sold out since I last viewed it.

News update (if you didn't know already) - rumors around the water cooler is XFX is no longer an nVidia AIB, so that post about an 8800GT RMA coming back as an ATi card probably won't be the last...

I am still wondering about Radeon HD 5670 though.
Was it an ok rma or did I get the short end of the stick?
Will it work for me at 1680x1059? All I am playing is SC2/LoL and maybe WoW again sometime.

|
|
Well you probably save power consumption and get DX11 and it's a smaller card in general.
overclock it!
|
yea the XFX rep said it is completely unclocked and that overclocking it wouldn't void warranty.
I might give it a try but I have never worked with ati cards before.

Now that I think about it, I might want to do some small-time gaming, like emulation, minecraft, or online flash games on my HTPC. No SC2 or anything like it. It seems the Athlon II X2 and AM3 Mobo 880G with Radeon HD 4250 graphics should be able to handle this, but do you think it would be wise to upgrade any of those?
Have integrated graphics evolved to the point where they are pretty damn capable and dedicated is only needed for photoshopping and intense gaming?

If you're emulating 3D games on PS2, DC, etc., you might want something better possibly. But in general, decent integrated graphics like the HD 4250 are fine for those kinds of things. It's a little bit better than my Thinkpad's discrete graphics from 4 years ago.
I think the HD 4250 is good enough for playable fps on absolute minimum settings in SC2, actually.

COuld you guys take a look at my build and make some suggestions or reccomendations based on it? I am mainly gonna be using this comp for sc2 and videos. + Show Spoiler +Tell me what you guys think ^^
As far as a budget build goes, that looks good to me. The only thing that sticks out to me is that 21.5" is small for a 1920x1080 screen, and I have no idea about the quality of HP-branded monitors (good or bad).
|
@Taka, your build looks pretty good to me too. But personally, I would not buy a ASRock mainboard, had pretty bad luck with them in the past. I'd suggest a 500W power supply, take that money difference and buy a mobo from major brand like Gigabyte, Asus, MSI etc...
|
My case is this L15 x W7 x H16, can I fit a Hyper 212+ in it?
|
I'd go for the 1gb gtx460, prob a diff case and a spinpoint f3, a lower PSU (you dont need 600), and a name brand mobo

@Seeyounexttuesday: Not a bad build, but with $750 budget I suggest change the CPU and mobo. Athlon II X2 is a somewhat weak CPU, your system will suffer from it. A Phenom II X2 955 BE @ 3.2 Ghz is much better with just around $20 more. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103846 Even w/o unlocking the cores. 2 cores at 3.2Ghz is a big bonus over the Athlon II X2 especially on SC2 performance. And an additional L3 cache will let your PC perform much better in general
Your mobo is fine, but if you are going to buy a stand-alone video card, why bother buy a mother board that has an onboard video card? This is a good AMD 770 mobo http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130290 just the same price as yours current choice
For SSD, this is a recent line-up review of all most of the SSD that on the market currently. Read it and decide for yourself, since I myself never use a SSD before :D http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/windows-7-ssd-trim,2705.html
For RAM, just pick 2x2 DDR3 1333 and you are good to go.
PSU:Since this is a budget build, the Motherboard from this build doesnt not support SLI/Crossfire. So I dont think you gonna need extra power even in the future. A 630W PSU is overkill, look for something around 550W.

Get one. I just got my first one and everything loads soooooooooo f fast. I'll never go back.

Recently won some money in a raffle and am looking to build a computer. I want to apologize ahead of time, I am not so good with computer parts etc. My father will put the computer together for me (he knows how), I just am the one having to shop for the parts. I know probably next to nothing about building a computer, which is why I ask you guys!
Budget: 700-800$
Resolution :1280 × 1024
Reason: I am looking to build a computer that will be able to stream games (gaming/streaming, in best quality possible for the budget) SC2 while playing it on Low (higher if possible) settings. Other games as well, but I think SC2 is probably most demanding of them.
Upgrade cycle - Assuming this means how often do I plan on upgrading. Not at all, assuming it can stream while I play games:-P
Overclocking - Probably not unless it was needed (don't know much about it)
OS - Yea, I kind of want some type of Microsoft 7 (If possible)
GPU/SLI - If possible in budget (don't know much about it)
When: Hoping pretty soon, I can hold off for exceptionally good deals like Black Friday. Just looking for a good build now that I can start shopping for.
Buying parts - Live in USA so pretty much whatever is cheapest of the sites listed in the OP(http://newegg.com http://woot.com http://NCIX.com (canada?) http://tigerdirect.com Fry's Electronics (http://www.frys.com) Microcenter (http://www.microcenter.com))
Also to add, I have 4GB of RAM I bought awhile ago from Newegg for about 30$. Using Crucial scanner it is DDR PC2-6400, not a BIG deal, but will add that in there just in case it might work in new computer. (pretty cheap memory, so probably not)
I want a new computer, but if it is a LOT cheaper to maybe upgrade my older one, maybe I can go that route.
My current system is (also from crucial) CPU Family: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+ Model 11, Stepping 1 CPU Speed: 2600 MHz with 1GB DDR2 Geforce 9400 GT Graphics Card (http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-01G-P3-N945-LR-GeForce-PCI-E-Graphics/dp/B001EH8FZA)
Thanks for reading and helping people not that well-versed in computers!
edit: Just looked at the build page (http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=124628). If any of those builds up to the 820$ one would do my job exceedingly well, just let me know and save everyone the trouble of helping clueless me

@Nokeboy
$700 thats w/o monitor right? Well, I think you didnt get your "requirements" straight. You need a computer that will allow you to stream? and run SC2 on low :D. Thats cute. Thats aside, $700 PC that will let you stream will be tough, but doable. I assume that I just list the part here and you can go to Newegg and look up for yourself. I'm too lazy and maybe you can find some combo or nice rebate if you look for yourself. Anywany, In order to get a decent stream.
If you only play games w/o streaming, I would suggest the i5-750/760. But since you want stream while gaming...A six core is gonna help. CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1055T http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103851 $200 Note that this CPU will not run SC2 as good as i5-760(but the difference is unnoticeable). But encoding stream will be better with a six core, and better multi-task as well.
Mobo: MSI 770 mobo http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130290 $70
Graphic: Radeon 5770 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150462 $125 There are couple more cards that go cheap after rebate.
RAM: 2x2GB DDR3 1333 RAM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231180 $82
Thats $477 total, you will need a PSU(550W or above) which around $70 A copy of Win7 Home Premium is around $100 Thats ~ $650 in total give or take a few bucks
I assume you dont need Case/HDD/DVD right?
With a remaining budget you can either go for a more expensive AMD CPU or a more expensve GTX460 video card.

Basically I want to just do the FME etc Ustream thing, while playing SC2 (I like Low the best). My current computer lags bigtime during large scale fights in 1v1 ladder, so I don't want that
I do believe I would probably need a Case/HDD/DVD. How much would Case/HDD/DVD run assuming I got the minimum. (Also don't need monitor, I also think I could possibly go for 800$)
Edit: ahh I get it, haha. Yea playing streaming Sc2 would be a little hard if I couldn't play it

Alright so thanks to Caphe (guy is amazing) here is what I got. Any money saving advice or help is welcomed! (DVD/PS and Windows 7/Case both combos:D)
