On an HAF 912, which direction do you suggest I point the PSU fan? Up or down?

Either is okay and shouldn't make a huge difference for most setups, but in general go with down unless the case is on carpet (and the feet don't raise the bottom high enough off) or there is lots and lots of dust underneath.

If there is a nearby graphics card--maybe in a microATX case, or if you are running multiple graphics cards--then the PSU fan will be close to the graphics card fan(s), and they will be blowing in opposite directions, fighting against each other. That's bad and should be avoided. With wider spacing, I doubt that's much of an issue.

Also with PSU fan facing inside (up in your case), you are reducing the air pressure inside the case, meaning more air will enter the case from any vents without an exhaust fan. This can mean more dust accumulation as well.

Hello, my old pc got broken and I think I am gonna buy new one but I have no idea what components.

What is your budget?

My budget is around 700-800e. ( I need to buy everything and I think I am gonna build the PC myself, my first time T_T)

What is your resolution?

My current monitor is not that good, and I only know that its brand is "Dell" so I dont know resolution of it but I sometime checked it and i guess it was something like 1280*xxx (I dont have pc to plug the monitor to so thats not an option)

What are you using it for?

From what I see now I am only gonna use it to starcraft2 and listening music from youtube etc standard internet stuff.
I'd like to have PC that can run SC2 with Ultra graphics and having stream with ridiculous high quality and maybe play some new FPS game like BF3 if I get frustrated in SC2 ladder (If its possible with my budget, that BF3 thing is not necessary but I rly want to have pc that can run sc2 with ultra graphs and good stream quality, if it fits to budget) ^^

What is your upgrade cycle?

Ummmmm... I assume this means how often I upgrade my PC...? correct me if im wrong...

Basicly I dont upgrade pc at all. I have never upgraded any of my PC's so ummmmm I guess my upgrade cycle is.. zero?
I think i rly should upgrade my pc but I dont have any knowledge about pc stuff.

When do you plan on building it?

When I have list of components but I dont know anything about PC's so im hoping you guys to help me getting as good pc as possible with 700-800euro budget with as good parts as possible ))

So yeah, when I get list of PC parts that is good for me then im gonna order them from internet and when they arrive I will build it, I guess..

Do you plan on overclocking?

Ummmmm I dont think so :/.

Do you need an Operating System?

Ummm yes I think I need Windows 7 and some Virus security :/.... expensive.

Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?

Ummm I guess im not gonna do anything to the PC once I got it builded... You can tell me that what benefit do I get from these kind of things in reply if you want to.^^

Where are you buying your parts from?

Umm no idea ... I live in Europe, Finland....

Please keep in mind that I need to buy everything except mouse and keyboard so I would appreciate if I get some kinda list of everything that I need to build the PC.. Thanks anyone who tries to help.

Speaking of psu orientation and fans, i have a couple question, I'm building a comp with an antec 300, the power supply is on the bottom and can only point up, how should i clean the dust out and how often?

Also, i have an antec spot cool fan in my old pc, and on my 300 i have a 120mm side fan that blows onto the GPU as well as two exhaust fans on the top of the case (one at the top of the back and the other at the back of the top.)

Should i even put the spot fan in? im not sure where to put it in without obstructing the air flow

And finally, theres space to add a fan to blow onto the hdd, does anyone actually do this or would it just be a waste of money to fill in that spot?

Whenever there's a lot of dust in the case? Its like asking how often should I clean my house?

People add fans whenever they need to improve thermals. I doubt you'll see much difference.

Well this is a pretty decent setup if your budget's 700-800 euro

CPU - AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition
CPU cooling - Zalman CNPS10X Performa
Motherboard - Asrock 870 Extreme3 R2.0
Ram - Kingston ValueRAM KVR1333D3N9K2/8G
HDD - Samsung Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ, 1TB
GFX card - Sapphire HD6950 Dual Fan 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E
PSU - Corsair Builder CX500 V2
Case - Antec One Hundred
DVD burner - Sony Optiarc AD-7260S

and BenQ G2220HD for a monitor, can go for a BenQ G2420HD if you still have some cash to spare at this point (probably not now HDDs are more expensive with the flood in taiwan)

there's a ton of different setups you can make though and a lot of em are kinda close in performance. There's tons of recommended buy lists on the internet so shop around a bit and see which parts are easily available in your area.

Why do so many people confuse Taiwan with Thailand?

Yes the performance between the two cards are similar. In the end, it just comes down to price and what you want.

Those two are almost exactly equal, it doesn't matter you can pick whatever one you like best.

seriously, a 700-800Euro build and you give him a phenom ii x4?
You should go for a i5-2400 + some H61 mobo
i dont know pricing in euro land but i know that isn't the best build for that much money

So in my HAF 912 case, it has an HD Audio plug and connected to it is an AC '97 plug. My ASRock Z68 mobo has only a spot on the bottom left for HD_Audio. Which should I plug in?

@mache
so here a 648 € configuration that would be able to stream at 480p and play on ultra ( for bigger resolution you need a i5 2500k overclocked + p67/z68 motherboard + aftermark heatsink )

Intel Core i5 2400 / 3.1 GHz

Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit SB-Version English
http://www3.hardwareversand.de/articledetail.jsp?aid=29181&agid=185 84,74 €
(i dont know what language you want or what SO need)

maybe you want to buy a monitor like this http://www3.hardwareversand.de/articledetail.jsp?aid=51957&agid=603 but if you dont do, you need to change your GPU for a hd6770

feel free to change the case monitor or the hard drive (but there are expensive know )

Would i be able to remove and use my (broken)laptops hard drive instead of buying a new hard drive/OS? Or maybe just for the hard drive because they are so expensive right now.

Yes. As long as you have the proper connections to your motherboard (IDE or Sata) and power cables, it will work. That's what I'm doing with my computer right now until my larger hard drive comes in. Using a 300 gb sata laptop hard drive and it works fine.

You don't HAVE to and could just plug the hard drive straight in. But I'd recommend a clean install so you don't run into compatibility problems. But no, you don't have to.
