If you value money so much, just get something like this LED monitor or this CCFL monitor. 2ms vs 5ms is nothing amazing and the backlight used doesn't really matter either outside of power draw.

I'd like to add; 5ms response time from a screen is already 200Hz, the human eye's sample rate is around 50Hz, leaving around 25Hz as the maximum perceived frequency.

is it possible to buy a power supply and a mobo whose pins do not match nowadays?

Old Dell power supplies had the same 24 pin adapter but with different pin order. These days, everything follows the ATX spec.

Working on a new build, what do you guys think of this?

What is your resolution?

What are you using it for?
Mainly streaming sc2, would like it to be able to stream bf3 on at least high settings. Photoshop as well.

What is your upgrade cycle?
1 year

When do you plan on building it?
Asap

Do you plan on overclocking?
If needed

Do you need an Operating System?
No

Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?
No

Where are you buying your parts from?
Frys or newegg/any recommended site

CPU: Intel Core i5-2500 Sandy Bridge
MB: MSI P67A-C43 (B3) <-(already own)
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) <-(already ordered during sale)

Nope.

http://www.100fps.com/how_many_frames_can_humans_see.htm

500fps is the minimum for reality perfect. The human eye is very complex and doesn't have a "refresh rate" or anything like that.

And really? 25 hz? That should have felt wrong the moment you typed it out.

k i just got my case. i'm trying to prepare to mail in the rebate, but something seems fishy. i honestly cannot find a upc code directly on the box. what i did find are upc codes on a sticker along with serial #, part #, etc. - 2 sets of the same sticker on the opposite sides of the box. do i just cut out box, tracing one of the stickers? again, it seems a bit strange that i cut out a sticker portion and not the actual code directly on the box itself.

I'm planning to get this: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-213-OE&groupid=43&catid=2040&subcat=

Specifications:
- Case: Antec 300 Gaming Case
- Power Supply: OCZ ZS 650w PSU
- CPU: Intel Core i5 2500K 3.30GHz @ 4.40GHz Sandybridge CPU
- Motherboard: Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard ** B3 REVISION **
- Cooler: Xigmatek Dark Knight CPU Cooler
- RAM: 4GB DDR3 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit -- **gonna call up their sales team to have it upgraded to 8GB
- Hard Drive: 500GB HDD + 64GB Crucial M4 SSD
- Graphics Card: OcUK GeForce GTX 560Ti 2048MB GDDR5
- Sound: Realtek 7.1 Channel Sound (On-Board)
- Optical Drive: LG DVD+/-RW SATA Drive
- Total price: £793.94 (not inclusive of the RAM upgrade, but it shouldn't be too much anyway)

Just wanted to see if anybody thinks this is overpriced -- I've tried to piece together a system similar to this but the price difference isn't that huge.. and I save the trouble of having to assemble them together (which I may very well screw up)

Also, huge thanks to skyR for providing me with great advice =)) the guy is amazing

As you have a P67 motherboard that allows overclock, you can have a look at i5 2500k. The price is often almost the same.
For the GPU, depending on what you want to spend, you have the choice between HD 6870, HD 6950,GTX 560Ti or GTX 570.
Have a look at some benchmarks to find what will fit your needs.

Thats like close to 1200 USD if my conversion is correct and thats like way way too much for an i5 and single 560 ti build. Even counting the hard drive prices and SSD.

Also that build won't be needing 650W unless I am going crazy so that build isn't even congruent with the rest of itself.

There is also some fat on that build (like 1600 RAM instead of 1333 which is largely the same thing).

What were you looking to do with a new computer? I feel that system is quite overpriced, and we have an optimized gaming desktop thread here in the tech forums.

And does it have to be prebuilt? It isn't hard to build your own computer as there is ample material out there for anyone who can follow simple directions.

I do agree that the PSU is overkill, and that there isn't much difference in performance between the 1333 and the 1600 RAM.

Assuming that I replace those 2 components with something more suitable, what should be the approximate cost of the entire system??

I will be mainly using it for gaming and programming. Also, are you referring to this thread as the optimised gaming desktop thread?

This thread:

http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=271861

While it is by no means the law of the letter it is a good guideline.

Your build closely matches the $800 build listed in that thread. Now some things are different. For instance the hard drive in that configuration is no longer that price, it has in fact tripled in price. Which is why i implore you to transplant a hard drive you already own into the new build.

Any hard drive, even a laptop hard drive. The prices on hard drives are way out of line at the moment because of the flooding in Taiwan, and prebuilders are taking advantage of this and milking it for all its worth by gouging on already gouged prices.

Flooding happened in Thailand, not Taiwan. -.-

Considering the components, its not really overpriced for a prebuilt.

GTX 560 Ti 2GB isn't a good choice. Switch to 1GB variant.

I think it'd be much cheaper if you got this one and changed the graphics card to 560 Ti and added the SSD.

US prices have no tax these do, it'd be equal to around 1000$

It's $209 for Cyber Monday, down from $319. U2412M was around $300 for Black Friday and I would have got that but I was being indecisive about the whole thing.

Ya, i see it now :S, so tempting....specially since there is no MIR.

Edit: I would have gotten the 160GB intel 320 last friday if it wasnt for the MIR bs.
