I'm aiming to get at least 80gb for an SSD so I guess I'll shop around some more and hope something shows up later today or perhaps Monday. I'll try to looking for current gen Samsung, Intel, or Crucial. Thanks!

And I intend to have a SATA3 motherboard so definitely looking for an SSD with that.

Anything else I should look for in an SSD?

Samsung and Crucial only offer 64GB, 128GB, 256GB, 512GB. Current gen Intel is 320 (only SATA2; 40GB, 80GB, 120GB, etc.) or 510 (SATA3, 120GB or 250GB only). Actually they have a couple other models, but they're not relevant for you.

Any recommendations for a decently cheap high quality router? Need a new one, rooommate and I regularly game using wireless in rooms decently away from where the router will be. I've had relatively negative experiences with wireless gaming in the past so want something definitely quality.

Cheaper the better, $40 or lower preferably.

A high quality router is not going to solve medium access contention issues, like if both your computer and the roommate try to send a packet at the same time. And it's not going to get rid of interference from potential neighbors. What I mean to say is that in some circumstances, the perfect router won't make your wireless gaming experience a positive one. in others, pretty much anything will do, as long as it's operational. That said, some routers do seem prone to dying and/or have bad validation and testing, so weird issues come up with certain systems.

If you have 802.11n wireless adapters, it would be better to get an 802.11n router probably, even if you're still going to be bottlenecked hard by the connection to the ISP. Actually with current sales, 802.11n routers are cheap anyway, so why not?

I've not tried any consumer 802.11n routers, so it's hard to say. Find something cheap with decent average reviews and hope for the best.

Off of pure guessing and intuition, and average customer reviews on newegg and amazon, I'd pick this for $24:

Just to tag in on the router question, are there any wireless routers with on/off switches for the wireless? Or even a setting to turn it on/off through configuration or something? My parents don't have wireless, so it's a pain when I go home, but they would rather not have that wireless signal if no one is using it (kinda paranoid, I suppose). A switch for wireless would be ideal, but one where it could be fairly easy turned on/off via router settings would be fine too.

Every one I've seen has a physical switch or have a setting in software (generally accessed through a web GUI) to turn off the wireless, but I've definitely not seen that many brands. As long as you're not using WEP, it's pretty paranoid to not want a wireless signal out there?

By the way, even if you only have WEP encryption, if nobody is using it, AFAIK there's no way for somebody to crack the password without doing a brute force search through 16^26 = 2.03 * 10^31 passwords. And don't use WEP if you care about it since it's way less secure.

edit: on second thought, I think it's 128 bit, even though the key is like 26 hex characters, so more like 2^128? Regardless, it's large.

the build is a modified version of shikyo's build
I was wondering a few things
A. Will all these parts work together ok/ fit in the case

B. Which of the case/cooler/power supply i should get (or if there is a better on for a similar price or less)

C. If I'm planning to only build it in a month or so, should I wait on getting these parts? (I'm guessing the i5 2500k at 150 is probably as cheap as it will get within 1-2 months, but not sure on the others)

D. Planning to wait on the GPU since i'm waiting on the hard drive anyways, till after the january announcements. But any recommendations on a gpu that will most likely be 80 dollars or so after the announcements (That will fit in the motherboard/case/heat since etc)

E. What size/types of hard drives will fit with these parts? Or does that not matter (I'm pretty noob, so sorry if this is a dumb question)

F. What would be the best monitor for me to get (LED only) for around 100 dollars?

Thank you guys for any help you can give

A) Yes they will fit. I'd get the Xigmatek Gaia since its like $5 after the rebates.
B) I'd go with the OCZ power supply. The Coolermaster case will also be better than the Antec 300.
C) Nothing new but possibly AMD's 28nm GPUs will be released.
D) $80 for a GPU won't get you anything worthwhile for gaming. Especially for 1080P...the best you're probably going to get is something like this.
E) Both 2.5" and 3.5" sized hard drives should fit inside the case. 3.5" hard drives are the standard however.
F) This is like the best you're going to get. Who cares what backlighting it uses because its rather meaningless. If anything, you generally end up with more visual problems using LED backlighting...probably why NEC still uses CCFL backlighting for their high end products.

Ah, thanks for helping out this noob yet again.

So based on the previous posts, the Samsung 830 was recommended at $95 and that deal still exists. Was just curious if there is any difference between these two models?

SAMSUNG 830 Series F-MZ-7PC064DAM 2.5" 64GB SATA III: $95

They look identical except one is cheaper and comes with a free game, can't imagine why anyone would get the second one.

They seem identical except for the prefix F in the model number. $130 is regular pricing so the secondary SKU could just be for Friday or whatever.

Thanks, I'll look into that one, I guess reviews are the best to go by. The biggest issue I have is that our current router drops us spontaneously at times, usually around 1 minute spurts, just long enough for me to DC from SC2. Also frustrating in general when trying to do stuff.

Could be some kind of bugged firmware. Who knows. Any time you've got some kind of cheap consumer product competing on thin margins, you don't get extensive testing--what's supposed to work with all systems doesn't always seem to work. If your model is supported by some kind of 3rd-party firmware like DD-WRT, you could try that instead.

Hey guys, I've been building my new computer over the past month. Catching deals where i could to save some money.
I will not be overclocking, so i started my build around that. I will be re-using a few parts from my old PC since i won't be using it anymore and it helps save money.

Here is what i have so far:
CPU: i5-2320 (already bought)
GPU: HD6870 (already bought)
HDD: Re-using old one (at least until prices come down and i can get a new one or a SSD)
Optical : Re-using old one
OS: Already have it

So what i need help with is getting the rest of the PC picked out.

MOBO: ASRock H61M/U3S3
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157236
CASE: Antec 300
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129042
RAM: Need help here
PSU: Need help here

I'm looking to get what deals i can this weekend, so if you guys see anything i should change or where i can save some money let me know. I have $250 that i can spend this weekend, that price includes the MOBO and CASE. If i can't get everything i need this weekend that's fine, I'm just looking to score some deals on what i can and finish sometime before the middle of next month.
As far as what website I'm ordering from, doesn't matter as long as they ship to Southern California (free shipping is a plus)

Thanks in advance for any help you guys give.

This case is totally unbeatable for the price. Antec 300 is just bad and loses in features and looks(imo) and silence.

for RAM this:

For memory, get these for $28: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820313086

For power supply, get the Antec Truepower New 550 for $60: http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=36262&promoid=1055

CX430 is okay for $17 after mail in rebate if you want to use an PCIe to molex adapter for your 6870.

Motherboard is good.

Case is okay with mail in rebate.

Hitachi 500GB 7200 RPM HDD $50. Definitely a huge black Friday deal for those building computers atm, it's like half off...
Code: EMCJJHE47

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145299&nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL112511&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL112511-_-EMC-112511-Index-_-InternalHardDrives-_-22145299-L012A

To put it in perspective, the normal price of these drives before all the flooding was $40. It's only a $10 increase. No reason to wait really.

This is good too

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811133094

This as well.

These all better choices than antec 300 imo, but I guess it's not that big of a deal.
