I fail to see your point. that doesn't even seem to go in line with what I'm talking about. as far as I know everyone here understands that you shouldn't need more than 460 to run max on 1080p and I actually see a lot of people correcting people who try to get more than that for just sc2. on the other hand a 2500k will also max out your settings and afik sc2 will even auto set it for you. So for people to say 2500k and bottleneck can be very misleading to non tech savvy people.

Its the last thing thats missing from my build. Atm i only have a laptop in the house, which is connected wirelessly. My new PC will be 3feet from the router. Should i hard wire? get a network card? ive been told just buying a dongel for £40 or something works fine and doesnt need a card installed or anything just wondered if people had preferences or anything

For anyone looking to build soon and who has a microcenter near them, apparently they're having a 1 day sale for the i5-2500ks for $150 (not a typo). This makes it already cheaper than the i5-2400 {edit: Mfer, ninja'ed...}

(not the case for wireless if there's significant traffic at that frequency around, even if it's not on your network, and definitely not for like a 3G/4G hotspot because of the high latency) There are some small differences in performance between cheap Ethernet network interfaces and expensive ones, but it's not really a big deal for an end user. Just use whatever integrated Ethernet controller (and jack) is integrated on your motherboard, like pretty much everybody else does.

Also, if you want the i7 2600k for $280, you can get $80 off any Z68 mobo, which is potentially a better deal than the i5 2500k (although if you don't need it, it's not worth the extra money). EDIT: Oh, I guess it was already posted. To Shikyo, you're limited to 1 per customer.

Thanks for posting that $920 build for ncix. It looks really great. I tried picking parts myself but yours is a little cheaper and includes a SSD with the same cpu and gpu and double the ram. I just have a question about the PSU. On the page for the gigabyte HD 6950 it list the power supply requirement as 500W. Will the XFX 450W PSU be adequate for the system? Also, for $20 more there is a 2GB 6950: http://ncix.com/products/?sku=59610&vpn=HD695XCNFC&manufacture=XFX Will there be any performance gain if I use a 22in monitor?

It's more than enough, the 500w requirement is so that people don't make their system burst into flames when they try to run a 15 dollar 400W unit. You'll be using like 300w or so in load.

No. 1GB should be enough unless you're using eyeinfinity.

Eek, you should probably keep using the GTS 250 @ that resolution and turn it down to low-med settings. With $400 you could get yourself a SB quad non-k and everything excluding that HDD you say you already have.

I'm trying to decide whether to go with a 2500k or a 2400. I've reserved a 2500k at my local microstore and a Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 LGA 1155 Z68 ATX Intel Motherboard for a total of $293 after taxes. Should I just get this instead of the 2400 to leave the possibility of overclocking open (even if i don't overclock)? I'm planning to play the latest games on 1600x900 resolution; would oc-ing my cpu help a lot? Also, I bought a MSI GeForce GTX 460 Fermi Hawk OC 780MHZ 1GB GDDR5 at ncix last week while it was on sale. I know it overclocks well, but would it be necessary to overclock it to play BF3 and other new games on high settings with decent fps? or can i just leave it unclocked Thanks in advance. You guys (skyr, myrmidon, jinglehell, shikyo, etc.) are doing a frickin awesome job with this thread, kudos.
