Depends. Are the drives IDE or SATA?

And depending on the case, and what you want to jam inside it, that may not be worth keeping either.

I bought 2 fans that i put into my case. There was not a fan on the side of my hf 922 case so i put one there but im not quite sure if i should have it pulling air in or pushing air out.

How i have it now:

Pulling air in on the side and pushing air out the top.

When I get my computer back I will list everything in it and you can help me see if anything is reusable, Im not sure what components it has. Assuming I need everything new other than OS, and monitor, keyboard, mouse. What would the parts be for around 500$, not for gaming, just email and homework and stuff. I already have a gaming pc. Is Canada computers good or no?

If it's really basic stuff, H61/H67 mobo, Pentium G840, 4GB cheap DDR3, you can either slap a $20 GPU in there, or just run IGP. If you really just need something truly basic, $500 is a little high.

If you want basic, just get a Celeron G530 or G440 for $50-$60, a MSI / Biostar / Asrock H61 board for ~$55, and 4gb of memory for ~$20. No need for a Pentium for email and browsing.

Canada Computers is okay, limited selection of components and not that great of promotions.Though it's one of the few Canadian retailers that carry Asrock boards so you can pick up the $60 Asrock H61M-VS there if you'd like.

Well since this is my gaming computer, my family wants like a computer for homework, basic browsing, facebook, and like powerpoint/school stuff. Less than $500 is awesome. I will find a list of parts on Canada computers based on what was said and see what it comes to. I will double check back one I list out the parts and stuff. Thanks for the help.

One more question would be if my HDD is broken and i cant access it on my computer is there any special shop that can get files off of it?

The Celerons may not be available yet, so just get the cheapest available socket 1155 processor. Actually I wouldn't recommend the G440 anyway (1.6 GHz single core), as that may actually be too slow to do certain things like watch certain HD videos. I mean, it's not that much cheaper than the G530.

If the hard drive is broken in certain ways and not others, it may be possible to send it in to recover the data. Just be prepared to spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars. -_-;;

I think the moral of the story is that backups are good. Automatic backups are better.

As to my fan issue, I just thought of a really obvious thing none of us thought of. Instead of looking at arrows, analyzing the blades, or feeling air, all you had to do was put a piece of tissue next to the fan. (Though that kind of costed my time as the intake side fan sucked it in with its unexpected power and I had to spend 5 minutes cleaning out shredded tissue from my case).

suggestions?!

You have to add an OS in that, which comes down to exactly $1000. However, since you are a student you can get Windows 7 for $30, so you can skip that.

No one replied to you earlier because no one here recommends prebuilts because they're overpriced, poorly optimized, contains unknown components, poor post-sale support, poor warranty length, etcetc. Why pay for overpriced garbage when your books and tuition already costs so much?

Having no room or time to build aren't valid excuses. Building takes less than an hour and good luck sleeping or using a computer if you have no room.

wow, i've actually posted here a couple other times asking for pre-builts because I thought I was going to purchase one at that time and people were more than willing to help out.

yes I agree building your own is cheaper etc.. but I happen to think space to build is extremely important if you don't want to mess your computer up. I've built 2 computers already and it can be a taxing job to do.. I just want a plug and play computer that works outa the box so I don't have to deal with the hassle

I'm not that convinced about time (or space). I mean, installing the OS, installing all sorts of programs, setting up programs, importing all kinds of settings and configs, and so on take a lot longer than hardware assembly. But I guess you know what works for you.

TBH I think the high cost of tuition/books is more an argument for being willing to pay a premium for assembly, than the other way around. Anyway, enough hypotheticals.

Unless somewhere like ibuypower has a good sale you're often better off buying parts from NCIXUS and paying the $50 assembly fee, if you must have it assembled already.

Do you not already have a sound card if you produce any music? What do you need there? What kinds of inputs and outputs, support for what, and so on? I think an external unit might be more convenient anyway. I'm not sure what's popular. EMU 0204 maybe?

I was about to suggest this. Using a piece of paper or string usually does the trick unless maybe you have massive fans with super low rpm.

Yeah i don't wanna risk my own fuckups building it myself in an uncomfortable enviornment. Plus installing OS and everything can be an all day job like u said.

Does ncixus assemble it themselves if i order the parts? If so, whats the turnaround time? I've been without a computer for a while and would like it sooner rather than later

The ncix site have a PC Assembly fee but I can't find it on the us part.
http://ncix.com/products/?sku=7842

I can't believe that would be the only major site in US that assemble computers though.

Btw, I've basically assembled a computer in a closet to get away from the damn cats. You can do it if you want to. Even if it takes all day it would probably be quicker than letting the site do it for you.
