I'll probably upgrade on all those eventually, but they're fine for now. I have a few questions... 1.) Is that PSU sufficient? Does overclocking (which I am now planning to do) change that? 2.) Is the cooling sufficient when overclocking? 3.) Do I need a separate board for an ethernet jack? (my dad insists I do. I'm fairly certain I don't) 4.) Can any of you think of anything I may be missing?

Yes, the Xigmatek Gaia is sufficient enough for an up to 5GHz overclock if you got a good piece of silicon and adequate airflow. All modern motherboards have integrated ethernet ports. It's not necessary to buy a discrete NIC unless you want something better.

2/ yes 3/ no an i5-2500k would be cheaper and will more then probably fill your needs just as well as an i7 here's a cheaper 23" monitor : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236059 unless that monitor has a specific option which you need what purpose does this build have ?

The only thing you may be missing is another SATA data cable (get one cheap on Amazon or Newegg or whatever). You have 3 SATA drives and the motherboard only gives you 2 freebies.

Besides, it strokes my considerable ego. Thank you so much for all the help, skyR, Myrmidon (and nice catch with the cable, I'd have never thought of that), Rachnar, and everybody else who has helped me on previous pages. I'll probably place my order before the day is out... unless anybody notices anything else that needs pointing out in the next few hours.

I'm not sure what you're talking about here, as I'm unfamiliar with the term. "Solid state" and "hybrid" can mean quite a few different things. My guess is that you're talking about the Seagate Momentus XT or similar computer storage device. The Momentus XT is a 2.5" mechanical hard drive with something like 4GB of SLC NAND flash onboard (i.e. what goes in SSDs, though for consumer SSDs they're configured as MLC). So it's a mechanical hard drive with additional flash memory that it uses as a read cache. It detects what data on the drive gets accessed the most and automatically puts that stuff in the flash. All this is done in the background without the user knowing. It just shows up as a single 500GB or so data disk in the OS. All your data will always be on the mechanical portion, just it may also be in flash too. So in the future, if that data on the read cache gets accessed, it will recognize that it has a copy of it in the flash and serve it quickly, rather than wait on it to be retrieved from the spinny mechanical platters. Thus the performance is improved, particularly for a lot of small accesses, which are what solid state storage is good for. If the data is not in flash, it'll go grab it from the disks like a normal hard drive. I don't think the Momentus XT does any write caching on the flash, unlike what you get with Intel's SSD caching (with a dedicated separate SSD) on the Z68 and future chipsets. Performance of the Momentus XT is therefore like a 2.5" hard drive for writes and like a 2.5" hard drive for reads that aren't cached on the flash portion. The performance of the flash is kind of like a slower SSD. So overall read performance is between an SSD and 2.5" hard drive. 2.5" hard drives are somewhat slower than 3.5" hard drives because of the size.

It seems like the momentus description fits the bill. Thanks for the explanation.

What is your budget? This is a bit difficult since the price on Swedish sites seems to be generally higher than NA ones on a lot of parts. I’m fine with spending around 10 000 Swedish kronor though. This is about 1200 dollars but to adjust it to the Swedish prices of hardware, let just say it’s around 1000. I’m flexible on the price range so don’t take that too seriously, less or more is ok. What is your resolution? I’m aiming for 1900x1080. What are you using it for? Watching videos as well as converting and editing video now and then so that would be nice if it didn’t have to take forever like I’m used to. I do play games regularly and would like to play the average current game on fairly good settings. I also do some 3D drawing in autocad. Some drawings can get quite large so I don’t want to have the computer basically shut down if I try to rotate the view. *hits head against a wall* So annoying. Also I’m going to need a wireless modem of some kind that can handle good speeds since I’m for at least a while won’t have access to a network jack. I have a wireless router so that won’t be necessary. What is your upgrade cycle? I’d say 3+ years. I do have a habit of hanging onto my computers until they basically die. I’ve had my current on since 2005 lol. When do you plan on building it? August/September. Do you plan on overclocking? I don’t have any plans but aren’t against it either (mostly because I haven’t done it in the past). If it for instance is a good way to prolong the life/use of the computer I could be interested. Not sure really. Do you need an Operating System? Probably. Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? Not sure what use I would have for it or what SLI and Crossfire does for that matter. Where are you buying your parts from? Preferably from here: http://www.inet.se/ Other alternatives are http://www.webhallen.com/ http://www.dustinhome.se/ They are all in Swedish but judging from this thread you can find most of the components that are being suggested, so if you can’t navigate the sites you can always suggest components from whatever site you fancy and I can check myself if the things are available. It might hard to give the best suggestion based on cost but I’m sure the general cost for performance ratio won’t be much different from other parts of the world. Also I am planning on buying a monitor and a keyboard a bit later on a separate budget, but if you have any suggestions here you are welcome to give them as well.

What is your budget? Roughly $1000-1500cdn before taxes What is your resolution? I need to get a monitor so it really can be anything. I do happen to like my laptops 1920x1080 resolution though What are you using it for? Mainly gaming. (Currently SC2 and older games) In the foreseeable future; Deus Ex:Human Revolution, W40k Space Marine and BF3 Im planning on using my PC for more gaming now and doing very little console gaming so the majority of new games ill be getting are going to be for PC. Also School; Engineering --> Catia (3D Modeling program) and Matlab What is your upgrade cycle? Every couple of years? This is my first computer im getting for myself and not just one that my family has gotten for me/my bro/ parents. Soo it might be less?? When do you plan on building it? Within the next month. But im planning on getting the people at TigerDirect to put it together since ive never done it before Do you plan on overclocking? Possibly? Never really done it before, if its easy and not going to put my parts at risk i will be. Do you need an Operating System? Sadly yes.. I have 2 copies of W7, but they've already been used (( Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? Possibly later in the future Where are you buying your parts from? TigerDirect as there is an actual store close to my house. ------------------------ I actually went into TD today one of the employees recommended this to me; CPU; Intel Core i5-2500k Unlocked Processor Motherboard; ASUS Sabertooth P67 B3 TUF Ed. gfx card; EVGA GeForce GTX 560 Ti RAM; 2x4Gb Patriot Sector 5 Desktop Memory Kit (So a total of 8GB of RAM) HD; 1TB Seagate Barracuda HD (SATA 6Gbps, 7200RPM, 32MB) PSU; 750W Corsair TX750 V2 (Apparently its 80ish% Efficient) Case; Cooler Master HAF 922M ATX Mid Tower Additional stuff; Cooler Master V8 CPU Fan (120mm Fan with Aluminum Fins) Philips 21.5" SmartTouch HD Monitor (1920x1080 Resolution) Now all of that ended up coming up under my price range (as its priced at ~$1300) which is awesome, but i still would need a W7 Client($100), keyboard(~$75) and an additional cost of $180 for them to put it together since i have no idea how to do such thing ) So my first question is, is the build that the guy game me actually good for what im wanting? (I think it is as it seemed to have some of the things i was actually looking at and saying i think that would be best for me like the gfx card and CPU, but i honestly could be completely wrong haha) If not what would you change or suggest and why? (So i can learn why the suggestion is better ) And secondly, is getting a SSD in conjunction with the 1TB HD worth it? If i got it i would load my OS, Catia, Matlab / other large programs and possibly some games onto it. The thing is, the one the guy suggested seems to be really damn expensive (ocz Agility 3 - 120GB SSD with SATA3 --> $212 after a mail in rebate --> http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...&Sku=O261-8201) Im rather on the fence about it because from what ive heard they make loading up everything really damn fast BUT its expensive and 120GB isnt enough for me to single handed-ly use on its own and if i went for both HHD and SSD it would throw me well over my price range (I can afford it still, its just a bit more then i would be hoping for as it comes to roughly $1850 after rebates and stuff ) So are the advantages really worth it?? Should i even bother with using both? And there are much cheaper smaller SSDs on their site which are slightly slower and roughly 30-60GB in size at about $70-100, would it be more beneficial for me to get one of those over the $200 one suggested to me?
