Thanks!
Cool, yeah for some reason the discounts aren't showing up on those links but I have confirmed the promotion prices as I listed.
I was just slightly concerned about the GPU. I was pretty happy with the price and the fact that its a Radeon HD 5770 but I have been checking out some of the reviews for it and am thinking perhaps I should go for a card that has had a better success rate.
What do you think?

Hi sorry I would use newegg.com if I was in the states. I am in Canada and newegg.ca has prices higher than the .com brother site. Nonetheless I will explore your suggestions but please re-post if you have Canadian reference costs.
Edit: The slickdeals link is not working.

Oh yea, my bad. I skimmed over your post and didn't see you were canadian.

Is that worth the extra $26? I don't have any USB3.0 devices .
|
well, if you really cant go over your budget i wouldnt worry about it. but its good futureproofing for when devices inevitably start going to usb3.

I found an XFX 5750 for $145, the reviews are a lot better for it. The asus copper core 5770 card has a lot of bad reviews. Apparently it can crash games and run hot since there is a tendency to have a faulty fansink cooling unit.
The xfx is only a 5750 but has a lot of good reviews (80% in the 4/5 and 5/5 range on newegg.com based on 124 reviews).
Also, what do you guys think of that OCZ power supply and Seagate HD? Some people were saying they aren't the biggest fans of those components.
I can get a Western Digital hard drive of about equal specs for $10 more.
EDIT: Any word on how important USB3 will be for the future? Will devices carry it? Is it a dramatic increase in performance? How long til that comes about?

Also what does it mean for the OCZ PSU to be end of life? That model type is discontinued from production? Is this a bad thing?

it means there are newer and presumably better models out now

Is Corsair 400W enough for that system?

why do you keep telling people to buy an extra sata cable? the motherboards usually come with atleast two. you can always check the specs/manual on the mfgr website to make sure. the asus board comes with two, just like the gigabyte board mentioned before as well.

400w is plenty. just make sure your PSU has enough connectors and such. IE i have a vx450 and it only comes with 1 6pin connector for video cards, so if think you might invest in a more powerful card down the road that needs two 6pin connectors, you'd need to get a new PSU, or get one of those funky molex->6 pin adapters (img).
are you thinking about the cx430? i see its pretty cheap, but im not sure about its quality as there's zero reviews on the web (atleast from what ive seen), and zero customer reviews as well ...
i'd still go for the z series in your original build or the modextreme, both cheaper than equal corsairs.

I think if you measured actual power consumption, it wouldn't be above 300W, so a 400W PSU is good.
PCI-E expansion cards (usually x1 lane PCI-E, which in theory could be a slight bottleneck) exist that let you plug in two USB 3.0 devices. They cost about $35 now, and I'm sure you could always get one later, when they're cheaper and when you actually need one.
|
Not the 430 but the Corsair 400W. The 400 seems to have reviews on newegg.

Someone else told me the 400W corsair would be enough for overclocking too.
EDIT: The monitor appears to be out of stock at that link. Also, is that necessarily a deal for Canadians? I noticed they have a .ca website as well.

The 430CX doesn't have reviews because it's new and seems to be replacing the 400CX. See this whole thread.
Granted, the 400CX has 30A on +12V according to spec, while the 430CX only has 28A on +12V. Most computer power drawn from the PSU goes from the +12V these days, so take that as you will.
|
So you would recommend the 400CX it seems?
