Hey guys im in the middle of my first build. i have an asus M4785TD-V EVO and a sapphire ATI radeon hd5770. I am now about to install the GPU but the manual says i have to disable the onboard graphics card first.
Is there anyway to circumvent this or will i have to build the rest, then disconnect everything and take the motherboard off, connect the hd5770 then reconnect everything then install its drivers? I was thinking i could just connect it now then disable the onboard graphics during bios, would this work?
A speedy response would be appreciated!

1. Building a computer yourself isn't necessarily cheaper. If you buy random parts all at the same time when stuff is on sale, you'll probably be better off buying a dell or something that's on sale. Some good advice, but dell and the like usually don't put in quality parts that you'd be getting if you built your own pc.

You disable the integrated graphics in BIOS. There's no need to remove your motherboard.

Velociprator's really don't give that much better performance, either go ssd or just get a normal 1gb hd (spinpoints are pretty popular right now).
if you aren't gonna SLI at any point / don't need the hyper threading, you're better off saving money and going with the i5-760 / 1156 socket. Your ram will be cheaper, motherboard cheaper, and you won't lose much performance from the cpu with typical usage (assuming you just game, watch movies / videos, music, browse etc).
but that's up to you

Those computers are targeted towards normal people who will only use computers for word processing and surfing the web, not intended for 3d gaming. yep. this and generally you have no idea the quality of the parts you're getting. $400 for an athlon x2 sounds pretty decent until you realize the motherboard and power supply are probably extremely terrible and you'd probably have to replace the power supply to get any kind of decent video card.

Thx for response KOFgokoun, but i mean if im prepared to cash out a little extra, its a good build?

I'd rather get the i5/SSD combo than the velociprator/i7 combo

It's compatible, but meh. I don't really like anything except LG, Samsung, or NEC for monitors. They are all more expensive, but the quality difference is astounding.

i dont think the velociprator is worth it, only barely faster than the caviar blacks yet 2-3x the price.

I've yet to understand why people insist on buying "the fastest" or solid-state hard drives. Seriously guys, just leave your computers in Sleep Mode. Instead of consuming 0.5W when turned off your computers will consume .75W (It would take decades for the extra cost to amount to the premium you paid for the hard drive). You'll stat up faster than if you had cold-booted from a velociraptor or other solid-state drive...

SSDs vastly improve game-loading time and OS responsiveness. The exponentially lower random access time cannot be matched by a mechanical drive. The biggest problem, albeit for all, is the higher cost. If you can afford it, it is the most tangible difference to a system (apart from display and input devices - mouse/KB).

But seriously, keep poo-pooing new technology.

please please please help me if you can if this seems like a good deal for roughly about 960 dollars is what they are charging me

that's a pretty small monitor, but that price actually seems fair you'll always see a premium in the price because it's a pre-built computer
what's the price difference between that and an i7-860? You're probably gonna overclock, so there's no real point to getting the 870 instead

I would recommend an i5 750 actually. If you don't need the HT, no reason to add an additional $90 if you have no apps that take advantage of it. Use that $90 to get a better GPU or monitor. Actually monitor first. You use your monitor everyday (gaming or not). A bigger screen makes a huge difference in your experience.
I spent $650 on my Dell 2405 back in 2005. I would say it remains one of best investments, since I jumped from a 17" to a 24". I would say it's more important than anything else, b/c if it sucks or is too small, everything else ceases to matter. Let us know how much the monitor sizes will impact cost.
*or just post the link to these pre-builts.

Grand total: $407.71 shipped. I'm looking around seeing other deals I could have taken advantage of, and second guessing myself, but I'm having trouble seeing how much more computer I could get for $400ish
Now I need a monitor. Since I'm only on a GT240, resolution shouldn't be super high, and I'm not looking to spend to much. Any suggestions?

I hope you aren't using that Green drive as a boot drive. I suppose if it's already ordered, then it's too late to change out. Oh well.
|
What is wrong with using it as a boot drive?
|
It's a low-power, low-cost drive that's relatively slow in terms of mechanical spin speed (5400 rpm vs. the usual 7200 rpm) and actual data access and read/write speed. I don't think the performance is worse than most laptop drives though, so it's not like a total disaster or a huge problem really--just not the ideal scenario.
|
Oh son of a bitch. I was looking for a 7200 RPM drive, honestly :| I didn't realize that drive was not (no mention of its RPM on the newegg page.) I'm going to RMA it and get pick up the 1 TB7200 RPM Caviar Black for the same price
