So you would definitely want a discrete graphics card to achieve your 80 FPS goal and a new power supply would most likely be required. To stream, you'll want a quad core. So you have three options (all of which require a new graphics card and power supply). Performance between various processors can be seen here: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4083/the-sandy-bridge-review-intel-core-i7-2600k-i5-2500k-core-i3-2100-tested/20 Option 1 ($325): Upgrade to a better processor on the same socket Intel Core 2 Q8400 @ $170 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115057 Radeon HD5770 @ $115 ($95 after mail in rebate) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102873 Antec Earthwatts 380D @ $40 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371033 Option 2 ($440): Upgrade to the newest & best performing platform (requiring new motherboard, processor, RAM) *best option imo Core i5 2300 @ $185 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115076 H61 motherboard @ $60 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157241 Gskill 2x2GB 1333MHz @ $40 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231253 Radeon HD5770 @ $115 ($95 after mail in rebate) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102873 Antec Earthwatts 380D @ $40 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371033 Option 3 ($194): upgrade to a quad core AMD (new motherboard & processor) and reuse DDR2 Athlon II X4 640 @ $100 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103871 Asrock N68-S @ $39 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157202 Radeon HD5770 @ $115 ($95 after mail in rebate) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102873 Antec Earthwatts 380D @ $40 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371033 Also you should note whether or not your PC is a "slim" dell tower. The slim ones usually require you to get a low profile graphics card in order to fit in the case.

GTX 460 768mb Cyclone for $100 is a good one but you probably want a better card for BC3. The MSI GTX 570 is $290 (270 after mail in rebate) is very good. I'd save the giftcard for something else.

If you're going to use a gift card, use their 110% pricematch policy and pricematch down the 6970 to $352 using: http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=11340BD0672 If the sales rep refuses to do it, you call for the manager. If that fails, you either go to another futureshop or do it online.

What is your budget? Between 1600 and 2000 CAD, obviously the lower the better, if it's not necessary/recommended to go higher. What is your resolution? 1920x1080 What are you using it for? Mainly recording, mixing, mastering, and gaming, but recording has priority What is your upgrade cycle? not specific, but assume a long upgrade cycle ![]() When do you plan on building it? This week-end. Do you plan on overclocking? no Do you need an Operating System? no Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? no Where are you buying your parts from? newegg i have no idea what requirements a recording/mastering computer needs :X he also needs stuff like a soundcard, mouse/keyboard/monitor. please keep in mind that he already has this motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128423&cm_re=GA-X58A-UD3R-_-13-128-423-_-Product so will be limited to the 1366 socket. sorry if i havent provided enough information :X

Since your friend knows his music, he should be the one picking out a sound card ($100+) that suits his needs and wants. Total comes to $1081 before sound card (+$100), monitor (+$200), other peripherals (+$100), and mail in rebates, your final total should be around $1500: Core i7 950 @ $270 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115211 + Show Spoiler + If he's serious about music, it would be worth it (in my mind anyways) to wait until Bulldozer's release in June / ditch the X58 and get a H61 / H67 / P67 and core i7 2600. GSkill 3x4GB 1333MHz @ $135 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231356 Gigabyte Radeon 6850 OC @ $175 ($155 after mail in rebate) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125353 Western Digital Caviar Green 2TB @ $80 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136514 Intel 510 Series 120GB @ $270 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820167042 XFX Core Edition Pro 550w @ $70 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817207013 Coolermaster HAF 912 @ $60 ($50 after mail in rebate) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119233 DVD Drive @ $21 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135204 @XenOmega Their policies state that they will pricematch prices advertised on the internet as long as the retailer is an authorized Canadian retailer (which NCIX is). Whether they accept it or not depends on the store's staff.

I was just hoping someone would be able to confirm that all of these parts are compatable. Also I wouldn't mind spending some more (~$100) if it would mean a significant boost in performance. I hope to play games at max setting while also streaming and do not plan on over-clocking. My main concerns are: -Mobo not being adequate -PSU being insufficent -Graphics card not fitting in case Thanks in advance guys!!! ![]() Well... after getting ready to order all the parts I discover that the PSU I was planning on buying went out of stock. ![]() I was hoping that someone would let me know if it would be able to power my build with hopefully some growing room for eventual upgrades. My build is in the spoiler. Thanks in advance as always. (I hope I am not becoming a nuisance around here >.<)

At the current price, I think a better option is the Antec Basiq 550 Plus ($50): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371016 It's modular, made by Delta (trusted OEM that also makes Earthwatts series, etc.), and has way more power than you need--not that that's necessarily a good thing. It also has two PCI-E connectors, which most units at that price do not have. Actually, the BP430 is also made by Delta, but I think it may be a slightly lower-end design? Or maybe not the current BP430 being sold? Something that is more well-known and independently reviewed to be okay is the Corsair CX430 ($45 before $20 MIR): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139017 If you want to deal with the mail-in rebate, that's the best deal. The XFX Core probably had better performance and components than any of the above by a bit, but oh well. By the way, here is some currently cheaper 2 x 4GB DDR3 RAM ($70): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231416

I'm not even sure if the units being sold have the same specs as what's listed on newegg. e.g. for a time, they were showing the label of the old unit At the current price, I think a better option is the Antec Basiq 550 Plus ($50): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371016 It's modular, made by Delta (trusted OEM that also makes Earthwatts series, etc.), and has way more power than you need--not that that's necessarily a good thing. I was considering the Corsair CX430 earlier but the Newegg reviews scared me off. I'm not sure if i should give those reviews the credibility that I do... but seeing that many that failed is concerning. Ideally the PSU that I originally wanted will restock before I decide to order as you said its still the best option. Thanks! Oh and btw I did order that RAM and I downgraded the processor, advice from Skyr and Womwomwom when I first posted my build. ![]()
