you two are just boss. The radeon 5850 is $120. 8 months old with dirt2 game. The free game was promo while back. I think its a decent deal since i could only get the gtx 460 768 for $120 not 1gb.
Thx for the tip about the wifi. and ill be buying that mobo.
Side note: i have a 5 yr old pentium D computer. I forget the exact specs but everytime i turn it on. The sound is as if its on full load, loud. The computer is used only for web browsing and other small tasks. I cleaned the computer dust, and its coming from the cpu. If i just change the stock cooler/heatsink, should the sound be gone?
Edit: o wow, $138 and $145, shouldnt i be paying less than $120 since its used?

Thanks for the tips Womwomwom and skyR, I searched for some new things and here's what I'm thinking.
Here are my current specs btw, in case you're wondering:
+ Show Spoiler [Current Specifications] +Windows 7 32-bit ATI Radeon HD 4850 512 MB Motherboard = ? OCZ 2GB RAM AMD Athlon 7850 Dual Core Processor ~2.8 GHz + Show Spoiler [To-Be Specifications] +Windows 7 64-bit (will I be able to upgrade this automatically since I already have 32-bit windows 7? Also, I heard I will have to reinstall everything, is that true?) ATI Radeon HD 4850 512 MB Motherboard + Processor = http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.631830G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL (The motherboard only supports 1333 MHz, but apparently the difference between 1333/1600 is negligible from what I read earlier on this thread. What do you think?)
I saw the ASRock H61M-VS you suggested Womwomwom, and I like it but I've been told to get the combo instead because of 4 slots for RAM, although what are any other differences between the mobos I can't really tell. Not sure if I'll have the use for the extra 2 slots of RAM since 8GB seems quite enough, but I'm not sure. Thanks!
|
the msi mobo has sata III, but thats not important. 2 ram slots is fine
|
@HCmystic
If it's fan noise than yes, you can just replace the heatsink and possibly case fans to reduce the noise.
@Superiorwolf
You have to do a fresh install for 64-bit.
The primary difference between the Asrock H61M-VS and the MSI board in the bundle is that the MSI has SATA 6Gbps and more PCI-E x1 slots. So the SATA 6Gbps may be useful in the future if you ever decide to get a 3rd generation SSD such as the Intel 320. If you ever plan to get sound cards, network cards, etc, the multiple PCI-E x1 slots may come in handy. You're not going to be needing more than 8GB of RAM anytime soon though.
The MSI board in the bundle isn't that great. With the bundle discount, it brings it to $85 which is the same pricepoint as the Asrock H61iCAFE, a motherboard that has everything the MSI has along with USB3 and legacy PCI slots.
It basically comes down to what connectivity you need when selecting between these boards.
The difference between 1333MHz and 1600MHz is minor yes, you can see in this article: http://techreport.com/articles.x/20377 I don't think the shellshocker deal and memory promotion is on anymore so getting a 1600MHz kit would no longer be worth it. If it was still at $60 than yes, get it by all means.
edit: Well looks like Newegg has another deal on RAM, GSkill Snipers 1600MHz @ $70: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231416
|
Intel 320 is SATA 3Gbps btw, though most of the newest-gen SSDs do have SATA 6Gbps interfaces. It's the same controller as X25-M G2, just using 25nm flash and new firmware.
|
Haha thanks for the tips, and ya I already ordered the shell shocker and got it for $69, but WOW the new deal seems even better! But I'm pretty satisfied I guess already with what I got, difference in price is small.
|
@Myrmidon they are actually in stock the $138 one for ontario, should i just buy a brand new one or ask to pay 100 rather than 120 for a used
|
The sale ends in 21 hours. I would just buy brand new since you're probably not going to get a response from him until the sale is over. Or if you want to take your chances, you can wait until NCIX's new sale starts and hope that there is something better.
|
he msged me back alrdy, said he will do $100 after mentioning the price from ncix, guess ill save myself $55 and buy the old one instead of new. ^^ :D i believe the anniversary week of ncix is this coming week after the easter sales just to let ppl know

Hello again! After many hours on these forums, other sites and Newegg I think I have finally decided upon a build. This will be the first computer I have made and am open to any other suggestions.
CPU Intel Core i5-2500 Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor $210 @Newegg
GPU SAPPHIRE 100314SR Radeon HD 6870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity $210 @Newegg
Mobo ASRock H61M/U3S3 LGA 1155 Intel H61 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard $80 @Newegg
PSU XFX Core Edition PRO450W (P1-450S-XXB9) 450W ATX12V 2.2 & ESP12V 2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply $55 @Newegg
RAM G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL9D-8GBRL $85 @Newegg
Case COOLER MASTER HAF 912 RC-912-KKN1 Black SECC/ ABS Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case $60 @Newegg
HDD Western Digital Caviar Black WD5002AALX 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive $60 @Newegg
Add a standard DVD drive and it totals up to $780.92 before rebates, shipping and tax
I already have Windows 7 install discs.
I was just hoping someone would be able to confirm that all of these parts are compatable. Also I wouldn't mind spending some more (~$100) if it would mean a significant boost in performance.
I hope to play games at max setting while also streaming and do not plan on over-clocking.
My main concerns are:
-Mobo not being adequate -PSU being insufficent -Graphics card not fitting in case
Thanks in advance guys!!!

Motherboard is fine PSU is fine HD6870 is not a big card, HAF912 is a really roomy case.
Samsung 1TB Spinpoint F3 should cost the same as your Caviar Black and perform more or less the same. Other than that good build.
If you want to save $20, get a i5 2400. The performance difference is negligible.
If you want 8GB of memory, get g.skill snipers. It'll save you $15 since they're on special.

WOW! Thanks! Just saved me like $40! You guys are awesome :D

Quick question about the GSkill Snipers.
My mobo's memory standard is DDR3 1333/1066 That RAM's speed is DDR3 1666
Will the RAM just downgrade to my mobo's standard?
THANKS AGAIN!
|
Yes, the RAM will just downclock to 1333MHz.
|
skyr thanks for the build recommendation

good build skyr
not famaliar with radeon vid cards tho..is that power supply fine?
|
Radeons are generally more power efficient than Nvidia's Geforce equivalent. The configuration won't consume more than 200w on a gaming load.
