I see GA-P67A-UD3-B3 has PCI-E 2.0 while the MSI 6950 has PCI-E 2.1
Will these two be compatible? Is PCI-E 2.1 from this Graphic Card compatible with PCI-E 2.0 from this Motherboard?

EDIT: I just read on the Internet that the PCI-E is backwards compatible and the Graphics Card with PCI-E 2.1 will work when plugged into a PCI-E 2.0

not.

I love one word answers. PS/2 is only faster if the user increases the refresh rate. Most people (probably including yourself) don't do this or even know how to do this.

OCZ Vertex 2, OCZ Vertex 3, Corsair Force, Corsair Performance 3, Intel X25M, Intel 320, Intel 510, Crucial C300, Crucial C400. Take your pick. Here's a review that shows you a comparison between most of these SSDs: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4256/the-ocz-vertex-3-review-120gb/1

OCZ Vertex 2 in most cases is the least expensive but you'll be getting a 25nm SSD (slower and less storage space) as opposed to 34nm from the others.

You mean Crucial C300?

Other options are the Samsung 470 and then all the other SandForce SF-1200 SSDs that should be mostly the same as the OCZ Vertex 2 and Corsair Force.

Actually, I imagine that the Intel 320 could be the most reliable, since that's an Intel drive using the controller Intel's been using since the X25-M. Intel 510 is using the Marvell 9174 controller that's in the Crucial C300/C400 and Corsair Performance 3, although with different firmware. Intel gets credited with better validation/testing than competitors, for what that's worth, so probably their firmware is more reliable even if on the same controller.

Hey guys,
I'm building a new PC for my dad because his old one is practically falling apart. 95% of the usage of this PC will be Outlook, IE, or Spider solitaire, so its basically a budget build. Here are the parts i have in mind:

CPU: AMD Athlon II X2 255 Regor 3.1 GHz - $62.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103896

Mobo: BIOSTAR A780L3L 760G - $49.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138290

RAM: Kingston 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) - $26.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134788

PSU: Antec Basiq BP350 350W - $29.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371003

Hard drive: Western Digital Caviar Blue WD2500AAJS 250GB - $40.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136113

DVD drive: LITE-ON Black 18X DVD-ROM 48X CD-ROM SATA - $17.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106276

Case: Rosewill R101-P-BK MicroATX Mid Tower $29.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147112

This is only my second build. Am I bottlenecking myself anywhere? Are some of these deals too good to be true? Any comments or critiques would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

You can save 6-7 bucks buy buying this RAM, instead: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231395

Really, at such a basic "home-user" level, it's hard to shave off any money. You might want to consider buying Windows 7, too, unless you have access to a copy that is cheaper than $100.

@ Zeke

I am planning on buying Windows 7 and Microsoft Office (Home and Business), but I figured I'd get the hardware sorted out first.

Thanks for the suggestion.

There's the option of going for a small build. The below is actually slightly cheaper.

AsRock E-350 CPU/GPU/motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157228

Apex Mini-ITX case + PSU
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811154091

E350 is worse than an Athlon II X2 by a decent margin, but the integrated GPU is better by a decent margin than what's on the 760G chipset. Power consumption of the E350 system should be a lot lower too.

Hi,

I am a novice when it comes to building computers but I want to get a good desktop finally. I usually buy laptops that are Desktop replacements due to mobility for my job but that is no longer needed any help would be usefull
Thanks in advanced

Computer questions :
+ Show Spoiler +

What is your budget?

Budget is 1,050 - 1,100

What is your resolution?
Currently running a Samsung monitor @ 1280x900 as a second monitor to my laptop. Will use this but in a few weeks will add a 23"+ 1020x1080 as main and use this as a second monitor. unless anyone has better suggestions (monitor not part of this budget, i will buy after )

What are you using it for?

I will use the pc mainly for games (SC2, LoL, Diablo3, L4D2, Portal 2, Etc) I also use photoshop and would love a PC that I can stream games and Edit vod's with.

What is your upgrade cycle?

2-3 years Video card i can upgrade earlier if needed but was hoping the actual PC would last a few years and still play games at high + Stream if possible

When do you plan on building it?
ASAP I will be buying the parts this weekend or placing Order online if that is best $

Do you plan on overclocking?

Was looking into this, It seems to get the best pc i would want to overclock but open to suggestions.

Do you need an Operating System?
Yes will need to buy Windows 7

Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?

No, I figure if i need to upgrade to a nice single GPU later I can do that as long as I have the rest of the build

Where are you buying your parts from?

I live in So Cal so I have a Fry's near by and a Microcenter would love to buy from there (fry's matches prices) if not NewEgg would be an option as well or any order online service

Notes

I want to build the best PC I can, I figure if I Can stay within budget now with a decent GPU I can upgrade it later and maybe add an ssd so I can get the best in two steps or so. I do want to use it for streaming and I have a 5.2 mbps upload so that wont be a problem.

Thank you guys for any help!

Seeing as it's about time I get a new computer, can someone recommend me a build that'll run SC2 on ultra as well as have some staying power in some more modern games like Homefront(no need for crysis on max settings with 60 fps level staying power) for basically as cheap as possible ?
I want a SSD for the OS and SC2 along with a normal one, and I'll be running at 1920 x 1080.
