I'm not sure what retailer you are buying from but you can simply use the build I posted for NB (found above) and add in Windows 7 Home Premium x64 for $99.
I'm thinking that Intel Sandy Bridge CPUs (Core ix-2xxx) and compatible motherboards (LGA 1155) are currently overpriced on PCCaseGear because of availability. Most of the other prices look reasonable on there, though I'm not that familiar with AUS pricing in general.
If you can spare the money, I'd really recommend getting a Core i3-2100. See here for a comparison. It's probably not worth spending much more money on an AMD setup these days (don't think about a more expensive Athlon II X4 or a Phenom II for games when compared with a Core i3-2100): http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/289?vs=121
So instead of the above CPU+motherboard, you would get this + Show Spoiler +
Actually, you would get pretty much the cheapest LGA 1155 (P67, H67, or H61) motherboard available. This is assuming you don't need the extra expansion slots, extra RAM slots, etc.
I have a question which kind of strays away from the sandy bridge theme you all have going on here lol...
I'm looking for a good cpu/gpu/mobo combo that can run games like sc2, league of legends, counterstrike, trackmania on medium/high settings at 1680x1050 comfortably with multiple browsers open, music playing etc.. (a cheap mobo will be fine because i won't use any more than 4gb ram or crossfire) --- I say medium/high because some games on the list are a little more demanding than others) I dont plan on playing any new games that come out, except maybe dota 2 and diablo 3, but ill just put them on medium
Its pretty easy to pick the new i5 and a 460 but i dont have the money or the want to play on ultra xD
TLDR; whats a good cpu/gpu/mobo combo that can run sc2 at high on 1680x1050 comfortably at the cheapest price
Thanks for the suggestions! Is there a big difference between the quad phenom and a dual core i3 performance wise? Would it be worth the extra 20 dollars? Because i have heard that AMD has great value but intel is supposedly "better quality".

SkyR, you are a life saver ... what about monitor? any tips?
i noticed the graphic card above support max 2560x1600 but i have never used that much lol... LCD vs LED? What is a good brand for monitor? =__=
Hi all, new here. I am looking to build a new computer and have been following these threads. Isn`t the SATA 6gb faulty on the new sandy bridge motherboards? how long should one wait before these are fixed.

So what settings would this be able to play SC2 on? Low-Med-High?

SATA 3Gbps was faulty (works fine but degrades over time with use) on the original Sandy Bridge motherboards. SATA 6Gbps was always fine. Recently they've been releasing fixed motherboards with the fixed SATA 3Gbps ports. Some manufacturers are advertising them explicitly as "B3." B3 refers to the stepping (revision) of the motherboard chipset that needed to be fixed for the SATA issue.

You'd play on ultra fine with the i3-2100 with that setup. You'd get lower fps in all CPU-limited circumstances (typically large battles where it'd be nice to have solid fps) with the Athlon II X2.
If you just want solid fps for medium and would rather save about $100 now (and are open to a GPU upgrade down the line), I'd recommend getting the i3-2100 and this HD 5570. In many other games, it would be better to have the stronger GPU and the Athlon II X2, but it's much more hassle to replace the CPU+motherboard than a GPU. http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=193_877&products_id=14885
Hi i plan to build my first pc i will use it mostly for gaming (sc2/shogun 2 ) etc. and watching hd stuff my resolution is 1920x1080 i wanna know if the parts are compatible, i am baying on www.mindfactory.de
1280MB Gainward GeForce GTX570 Phantom 311€
Intel Core i5 2500K 4x 3.30GHz So.1155 BOX 174€
2X 4096MB RAM Corsair 1600Mhz Vengeance 82€
Asus P8P67 EVO P67 Sockel 1155 ATX DDR3 155€
2000GB Samsung EcoGreen F4EG HD204UI 65€
Noctua NH-U12P SE2 S775, AM2(+),AM3, 68€
Netzteil 600W Enermax Modu87+ 80+ Gold 140€
and some cheap dvd burnner
i wanna have a case with front usb3.0 that is around 120 € and i will add OCZ SSD Vertex 3 120GB later when its out
NH-U12P is a little old I think. I'm not sure if it's compatible with socket 1155/1156 (but I think Noctua releases new mounting hardware for older heatsinks to make it work). You may as well just get something else though.
edit: on second thought, I checked and the Strider Plus 500W is FSP OEM and different from the other Strider Plus, which are from Enhance. This one should be good but not a top level unit.
All else looks fine. You could maybe go for cheaper RAM or a cheaper P67 motherboard if you don't need all the ports or SLI or whatever.
NH-U12P isn't that old (3 years maybe for at least the original revision), but it's old enough to not be available on newegg anymore. Of course, there aren't yearly breakthroughs in thermodynamics, so a good cooler is still a good cooler.
That said, do you know that a i5-2500k (when not using integrated graphics) takes about half the power at full load as a i7-9xx or Phenom II X6? Heat dissipation requirements are consequently not as high, so a good budget cooler may be a reasonable option.
Adds up to $985. Note I have no idea on what fan to get, so I just got the cheapest one without a dodgy brand name.
This looks good, but personally I don't think the EVGA overclocked 460s are worth the markup right now - especially not when AMD 6870s can be found for less than $200
Windows 7 x64 Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU E5300 @ 2.60GHz 1x2048 Mb Ram Kingston 800 DDR2 NVIDIA GIGABYTE GTS250 1GB DDR3 Mother Board Asus P5KPL-AM SE
This is my pc, what you recommend to upgrade? i bought the gts250 last year for sc2, but it runs laggy in some big battles playing on low settings, what should i upgrade? Thanks!
