Z75 rating seem solid and it's similarly priced to what I was planning on buying, might have to go with that, although the first page looks scary Z77 has less reviews mentioning failure.. ugh decisions decisions.. Stability is pretty important so I come to think of it I can pay about a bill for a motherboard if it's worth the difference

Did not notice that actually, thanks. Do you have any thoughts on the 770 i chose? theres so many variations, just going on reviews alone it seems like a decent choice, but im sure im missing something.

I chose the same one after looking at some reviews etc (though i read the reviews before in the interest of buying a 770, then the giga one got a good offer on for a few uk sites, so i instabought), it's ridiculously quiet and dynamic underclocking when you are playing a lot of games gives you insane temperatures, like sc2 max settings 45c
Under full load with 20c ambient and good-ish (not ideal but not bad) case airflow, in games like Crysis 3 with high OC'd cpu also loaded, it only takes 65% fanspeed to level it off at 70c after a long time of case heating up etc with a light overclock on it which is so low temp it's probably bet to lower fan speed further

Any of the big three (ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte) and EVGA are good choices if you don't particularly care about anything. I don't pay much attention to GPU PCBs so can't really tell you which has the better PCB. But all three of their cooling solutions are good.

ASUS RMAs have been ridiculously slow in my experience, FWIW. You definitely want to cross-ship if you are eligible and able.

If you want to go over budget than you should probably consider a core i5 since iirc, Bioshock and Crysis does make use of quad cores.
And the 7870 requires two PCIe connectors while the CX430 only has one so you're going to have to use an adapter which sort of eliminates the point of having a modular unit.
If you want 8gb, get these instead for ~$64 with promo code GSKILLSAVE10: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231666
Get the CPU in a combo with something, typically motherboard or GPU.

Totals to $735
I think at this point my concerns are that a 500W PSU is too much, and that the motherboard correctly fits the case. Heat shouldn't be a problem since I'm not overclocking anything right? Thanks again for your input Alryk and skyR.

You might notice there's a ton of sales above. Next week the same configuration might be a bit more expensive. Continuing on the theme, us.ncix.com has a pretty good deal for a Benq xl2420t monitor right now @ $300. The xl2420t is a 24" 1920x1080 120hz monitor (w/o speakers if I remember correctly). Alternatively you could go for one of the best 1920x1080 60hz options: the ASUS mx239h @ $228. A 23" 1920x1080 IPS monitor (w/speakers), the mx239h is going to have an excellent display but isn't capable of 120hz. Then again, if you were planning on getting a bigger, seriously expensive monitor later (not sure what you meant by considering adding a second monitor in the future) or just didn't want to spend as much money, you can still get a high-quality screen an a BenQ gw2450hm $160. A 24" 1920x1080 A-MVA (similar to IPS in that it's better than your average cheap TN monitor) 60hz monitor w/speakers.

Totals: w/BenQ xl2420t: $1450 (no speakers in this build) w/ASUS mx239h: $1380 (speakers in monitor) w/BenQ gw2450hm: $1310 (speakers in monitor)
The processor is basically as good as it gets for gaming. I selected the overclocking version (with associated motherboard & CPU cooler), so you can get the extra performance if you want to put in the time to do so (basically $100 extra cost). Because of your budget I've chosen fairly high quality components (you could go cheaper with a bit less luxury but no real loss in basic functionality). You could get a stronger video card (a 7970 should be $350), but a 7950 is already quite high-end and I wanted to make sure you had room for quality monitor & speakers.
The only reason I see you might want to go over your budget is to fit in a 27" 2560x1440 monitor, but for that you'd have to go over by more than a little bit.

Around $600 I can go up a bit if it'll be a nice boost in performance
What is your resolution?
1680 x 1050 currently, planning to move up to 1920 x 1080 and stay there
What are you using it for?
Bioshock, Half Life 2, Crysis, a little bit of SC2
What is your upgrade cycle?
4 - 5 years
When do you plan on building it?
Within the next couple of weeks.
Do you plan on overclocking?
No sir.
Do you need an Operating System?
I have one ^.^
Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?
I don't plan to do that.
Where are you buying your parts from?
I have a nearby Frys and Newegg are my resources.
Also if possible I was wondering if the HDD could be forfeit in favor of a SSD, I have an external and a spare harddrive with me so if a 128+ GB SSD can find itself in the budget I would appreciate it but if it competes with performance too much then let me know. Oh, and double post oops Thanks a lot for the help I really appreciate it. I was thinking I would remove the dvd drive because I honestly don't remember the last time I used one on my current pc. I was also wondering if it would be ok to swap out the RAM you suggested: G.Skill 1600 4GB (2x2) @ $37: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231193For these instead: G.Skill 1600 8GB (2x4) @$72: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231428I know I'm going a bit over budget with that but I think it'll be worth it. I don't think it affects any component choices but my housemate has convinced me to start up on DOTA 2 as well. Thanks again for helping me out and if you have any more suggestions I would like to hear them. That's a Fractal Design Core 1000 that you linked. The Fractal Design Core 3000 is like $60. Just stick with the Fractal Design Core 1000 for ~$34 unless you no longer are sticking to budget and want to move up then get a Fractal Design Define R4 for $80.
Mail in rebates aren't instant discounts that are counted in your check-out total, just so you know that. If you're going by mail in rebates, it's going to be much more expensive at check-out but you'll (or may) get your money back eventually over the span of six months.
If you want to do mail in rebates than the Corsair TX650 is better with EMCXNWPP33 promo code, at $60 after mail in rebate: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139020 If not doing mail in rebates than the Rosewill Capstone 450 is significantly better at $60: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182066
No reason to get a core i5 3570 at $209 when Newegg has the 4670 for $210 with promo code, get the 4670 with 7870 in this bundle and apply promo code COMPNTSAL23 for $380 ($365 after mail in rebate): http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.1355700

Why a 660 when 770's are the same price and better?
