Can't really tell you much with no details. It's a waste of money from a gaming perspective and less than optimal from other perspectives.
I'm pretty sure a Noctua NH-U14S performs better than a 240M. And if you're spending this much on a computer, why would you purchasea a Coolermaster power supply that's not even 80PLUS Gold over the Seasonic Platinum, Corsair AX, Rosewill Capstone and Fortress series?
Crucial M4 is a weird choice for this kind of budget when you get significantly better performance and two extra years of warranty by spending ~$30 more for a Samsung 840 Pro.
Reference GTX 780... Idk, the heatsink is awesome looking and all but I much rather have more performance from the GPU than care about its aesthetics...

If you answered the question we could help you more with your build, but here are still a few comments.
The CM seidon is not really good, pretty low performance next to other closed loop, which are generally not recommended vs high end air cooling.
The Samsung 840 is cheaper i believe then the Crucial M4.
Memory pretty overpriced...
Thermaltake cases from what i've read aren't the best cases, Skyr or somebody else will know a lot more then me regardign that.
PSU is way voerkill even if you are going to SLI 780, a capstone 650 should be enough
edit : too slow TT

SLI 780's is pretty much only thing i wouldn't take a capstone 650 for, you can overclock them significantly and anybody who wants sli780's will care about significantly higher performance, so they'll draw a lot of power each, you'd be high in the load curve for a capstone 650 and it probably gets noisier, less efficient etc. Plus, if you're spending ~1.3k on a pair of gpu's and the extra on a good case, case fans etc to handle sli of the most power hungry high end cards right now, you can probably afford to step up to a ~750 or something along those lines
I wouldn't really consider $83/8gb for some decent 2400 RAM to be a ton overpriced, maybe a little compared to other deals

So are you guys sure an intel build would be better than an A10? Mostly its cost efficiency, so long as sc2 would be reasonably smooth, and as to minimize cost.
|
Yeah nvm for the ram, thought it was 8gb^^
But i was just gving an example for the PSU, i have a Lepa G700-ma and i love it, completly quiet (which is pretty dumb in my build.... everything is silent/pretty quiet except for my 590.... lol), and it's really really good quality, corsair ax760i would be a good pick too i guess

I don't like telling people what to buy (because i am a biased motherfucker and there was no reason at all to get a ud3h over d3h, i7 over i5 and 770 over a 7950 with a good overclock or even a lesser card, but here i am), i wouldn't really want to play sc2 on either CPU really though, that's why i have haswell at high overclock. A10 seems good

I'm your opposite who have a shitty A6 because I have no reason to get more, but I recommend Intel for SC2. Not only because it performs particularly better, but also even Ivy Bridge has a modicum of potential for upgrade.

Hey,
My brother and I plan on building a computer for our mom. Her current build is 7-8 years old and just really is just a pain to use even with a format. She's an accountant, not into gaming if you don't count facebook scrabble. Basically just want it to be fast, pretty sure she'd appreciate compact and a clean look. Possibly an itx build even. I know this is a completely non gaming build so this is kind of a weird place to get advice from (it won't have a GPU even) but any advice is appreciated.
I did the questionnaire even though it's kind of not directed at this particular inquiry.
What is your budget?
Rough ball park 4-500 dollars. This is rough, I feel like we could get even more than I want for less than this but I'm fine with less or even slightly more. ............................................
What is your resolution?
I'd guess onboard graphics would handle this one no matter what resolution. Correct me if I'm wrong. ......................................................
What are you using it for?
Accounting, internet... I can't think of anything that would put particular strain on the system. ..................................
What is your upgrade cycle?
Gifts are timeless..... probably not that often. ...........................................
When do you plan on building it?
As soon as I have a build I'll order the parts. ..........................................................
Do you plan on overclocking?
Haha ...................................................................
Do you need an Operating System?
No ..........................................................
Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?
I hear excel looks absolutely amazing with 2 titans .......................................................................................
Where are you buying your parts from?
NCIX.ca, newegg,ca, any online site that ships to Canada.

You could try replacing the HDD with an SSD and keeping the old PC. I've seen an SSD in an old PC with Athlon 64 X2 which was released in 2005 and 2006, and it was pretty impressive what the SSD did. That PC always still kept reacting to clicking around with the SSD even if programs were slow drawing their window.

The A10 would work OK for SC2 and other things like DOTA. Since you don't need a GPU, it keeps costs relatively low too.
Intel has the benefit of better overall performance and the fact that its CPU performance is significant enough to actually be fairly future proof (you can't future proof anything but Intel CPUs have a stupid amount of CPU performance as it is) for games. The A10's CPU performance is decent enough in fully threaded tasks but its kind of obsolete already.
Adding to what everyone has said, don't get that case for $185. Thermaltake cases and power supplies are typically pretty awful compared to the competition and the Armor doesn't buck this trend. You have options from NZXT, Fractal Design or Corsair to choose from which are not only cheaper but built with better quality materials and actual thought.
For instance, if we're talking about huge cases, the Corsair Carbide Series Air 540 is only $140. And its airflow performance should be rock solid because of the case's depth and how close the fans are to the key components. Your parts will also look awesome through the window since it should be easy as pie to cable manage, with or without a modular PSU.
I mean, for ~$40 more you can even choose the Silverstone FT02 (!!!) though you kind of have to stick with reference GTX780s if you choose this case.

I have a NZXT Source 210 and I have an ATX motherboard in it. And he said he wanted mITX. And you didn't list a PSU.

Im building a computer for a friend. Got a i5 4570 locked in and was going to go with a 7850.
But I found a great deal on a 660 ti, the i5 4570 isn't going to be the bottleneck for BF3/4 right?

Oh I thought it was microATX, and I didn't realize that case came with a PSU. I am at work so I didn't have too much time, but if it doesn't HAVE to be mITX he could probably save some money.

I'd probably hold back FPS a little bit at a few places, but not major difference i think. There's not much good bf4 info, and i'm not too sure of bf3, pretty sure they scale but not really hard (and less so the more you raise graphical settings)
I would probably OC CPU if i was looking to power a 120/144hz monitor on lower settings or something, but then again you'd need a good GPU to do that still, it's hard to say, see if anyone else knows more about the game engines

Thats what I figured, making it still worth getting the 660 ti right?

what PSU do i need? upgrading components!
case: fractal design define r4 mobo: z77 g1 sniper 3 cpu: i5-3770k ram: 2x4gb gpu: amd 7870 gigabyte GHz 2GB OC edition HSF: phanteks ph-tc14
i might get another 7870 in the future.
i'm looking at the fractal design newton atm; it's 600w plat certed, modular.
