You might need to just turn the stream preset down to something slightly faster for slightly worse quality / bitrate.
You cant really do this past Veryfast.. (Superfast is ~6% less CPU load.. but needs over double the bitrate for the same quality)

I forget. I don't live anywhere that offers reasonable upload speeds. Only x264 encoding I do is on placebo or veryslow, and that's clearly not real time. ![]()

For reference, two Phenom II cores should be enough for encoding a reasonable resolution at reasonable fps on veryfast or slower, right? I'm kind of out of touch on some of these faster presets. Of course there is more to streaming than just the video portion of the encoding. edit: found a link I was looking for, for x264 encoding speeds at different presets, though the article is slightly dated: http://www.behardware.com/articles/828-26/h-264-encoding-cpu-vs-gpu-nvidia-cuda-amd-stream-intel-mediasdk-and-x264.html

Slower is like 4x harder to encode than medium which is like 3x as hard to encode as Veryfast.. 10x+ multi on CPU load from Veryfast so Slower not too pleasant

superfast 2206 40.336090 veryfast 1292 32.792274 This is the first thing that comes up on google.. that is bitrate required for the same CRF and framerate encoded at. Even if my results are off its not something you want to touch with a 1 meter stick for livestreaming

x264 proper has default of medium I think, though that's too slow to be a default for realtime encoding. Supposedly, even at equivalent crf, the faster presets still look slightly worse (even with all those extra bits). Actual bitrate difference should depend on video content though.

Point is, in terms of encoding efficiency, veryfast through slower are all pretty minor changes - compound effect, you can get maybe, maybe something like 35% more encoding efficiency - but the step to Superfast is ritual suicide of encoding efficiency for encoding speed gains that are not very significant at all Edit: Haha, we alternated posts 9 times. I wonder if there is any way i can check the fan speeds on the PSU? I tried with HWMonitor but the PSU seems to be shy and wont reveal it's true identity (i think it's a jumbo jet in disguise). By the way my pownersupply is a EVGA 750G watt Supernova modular powersupply unit.

I've always loved silent stuff so i bought a PSU wich was said to be silent. So i went to the store i joy and picked it up the other day. The damn thing sounds a lot more then what it did before. I can even hear it when i listen to music. Then my cat bit me. I wonder if there is any way i can check the fan speeds on the PSU? The only PSU that can monitor fan speed currently is the i models from Corsair (using Corsair Link).

Do you want full gaming load to be quiet or just idle is enough? EVGA SuperNova 750W is pretty unremarkable and is known to be on the loud side.

Is there any reason you got a 750W unit for a computer that would use well under half that with the HD 7950? I can't really imagine somebody complaining about noise and using a Define R2 XL to want to run Crossfire...? btw in the current generation of parts, the GeForce-based Asus DirectCU video cards have very good acoustics (but not the Radeons, for whatever reason, as has been tested on multiple models in the product stack). So what PSUs are available, at what kind of prices? I mean, you could always pick up Seasonic X or Platinum, Corsair AX (new ones), Super Flower Golden King, etc., and have something quiet at low loads, but there may be cheaper alternatives too.

Well i wanted a efficiet, quiet, modular and quiet powersupply that would make it possible to add another gpu if needed. When i read reviews *cough! user comments* on the psu it seemed to fit my needs perfectly. I came from a Corsair hx620 watt and the difference in noice level was very noticeble. My budget can streatch up to 150€. These are the ones i can chose from(aka can pick up tomorrow): be quiet! Straight Power E9 680W 80+ (leaning towards this one) be quiet! Dark Power Pro10, 650W 80+ Gold Corsair AX 860W 80+ Platinum (a bit expensive ... however 7 year warranty is nice) Fractal Design Newton R3, 600W 80+ Platinum (dont really like fractal design ...) XFX XXX Edition 750W 80+ Silver (dunno about this one)

I would skip the XFX in the off chance you get a particular fan that's disagreeable. Dark Power Pro is really good and really quiet (though the AX platinum has it beat). So Straight Power E9 likely will be okay, but the DPP 10 is definitely better.

First off, if some of this information is fairly accessible on these forums, I do apologize for any lack of research and I hope you guys can bear with me. I can barely stand to navigate the forums on this crappy netbook I'm using right now, but I tried to do SOME legwork. Following the general advice I've read on the forums, I'm so far looking to get an i5 3570k and a z77 mobo, and overclock the CPU. I was initially looking at i7s, but it's apparently unnecessary unless you're doing a lot of video editing. I do intend to stream a lot, however, and I'm wondering how much impact an i7 has on that, and if it would be worth it. If not, I imagine the z77 / i5 + overclocking sounds like a good bet? I'm also wondering why the GTX 650Ti hasn't even been mentioned in the OP, considering how much action the 550Ti has seen, and considering the price point of the 650. Is it simply subpar for the price, or what's going on? Any recommendations for a GPU for my setup would be welcome, especially around the $160-$200 range. I usually play at 1280x1024, and stream at 1280x720, although I am wondering if I should go a couple steps further with the GPU in case I finally upgrade to a 1920x1200 monitor. Yes, it's flaky, sorry. I'm just trying to decide on a solid upgrade. I live in Norway, Europe, so I can't make use of Newegg deals and such. Optimally, if I can order everything from sites like Komplett that'd be just about perfect, but I don't expect anyone to go that far. Generally looking for "sweet spot" deals of price to performance. Any help appreciated. Doing research on a several-years-old slow-as-hell netbook is giving me a literal headache.
