I'd also like some criticism on the hardware and suggestions would be awesome! I'm trying to keep it relatively cheap (-$1200 usd) and will mainly use it for SC2/ whatever new games on medium settings. Thanks! Here's the list: http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=24934827 Antec 900 is old and not a good case for $97. You don't need to buy SATA cables if all you're buying is a HDD and DVD drive. The motherboard provides you with at least two, high-end boards like a P8Z68-V Pro should provide you with four to six cables. Motherboard is too high-end for you if you don't know how to select components. A Z77 chipset would also be better. You should also be able to save $10-$20 by buying the CPU in a combo with the motherboard. You're missing an aftermarket heatsink for overclocking. GTX 480 is old and not good... especially when a Radeon HD7850 is better for less. Doing SLI with GTX 480 now.. is also a terrible idea since the card is already like two years old. Not to mention a $200 card is extreme overkill for medium settings... let's not talk about how overkill SLI is... Corsair TX650 is old... TX650v2 is less and better, Rosewill Capstones are also significantly better for less.

Edit: I've updated some of the hardware based on your suggestions. I don't know much about that radeon graphics card, but I've managed to shave off a hundred dollars from my build.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.1030096 There's a HD 7870 for $220: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161404 but honestly, for medium settings, you could save $100 there with a cheaper graphics card. The Asus DirectCU HD 7850 would be significantly quieter though (the above 7870 shouldn't be bad, just average), but if you were even considering a Rosewill Capstone is comparable or a little higher quality than Corsair TX V2 and much cheaper: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182066 I'd seriously consider an SSD and quite possibly better speakers if you want to hear things beyond the very basics / speech / beeps. edit: Freezer 7 Pro not good for that price. Just get a Hyper 212 or other tower cooler with a 120mm fan, since you're probably not going to pick a narrow case that can't fit those. Asus Z77-V LK really overpriced for what it offers. btw, secret tip: if a product has a gajillion reviews, that means it's been out forever and is outdated, and most user reviews may reflect its standing among the weaker competition of yesteryear. Antec 900 is another example, though that's gotten several incremental upgrades over the years. Then again, user reviews mean little in general, and some old products like Hyper 212 Plus haven't exactly been surpassed at that price point.

I always thought the more reviews the better, but you made a lot of sense there. Also, nobody seems to like Antec, any specific case suggestions?

I usually look at us.ncix.com for cases to recommend (free shipping rocks), but these should be on Newegg as well. In general I look at these options first: Antec One (gaming series, not performance), Bit Fenix Outlaw, or Coolermaster HAF 912 for decent quality budget cases. Fractal Design R3 or (rarely) Antec p280 (this last when on sale) as reasonably-priced quieter cases. Corsair 550d for a higher-end quiet case. Raven 03 for a case with the I/O panel on the top of the case (expensive). Oh, and I occasionally recommend the Zalman z9/z11 for people who want ZOMG-FLASHY LIGHTS but don't want to pay much. I don't personally like their style though. Note - I haven't looked at newegg prices/shipping for these cases. And of course, aesthetics are a personal thing.

Thanks for pointing that out, I didn't remember to check that. The cooler master case looks good, not many fans but since I'm getting a Hyper 212 it shouldn't matter, right?

HAF 912 should work fine. You'll need to take out the easily-removable top hard drive cage though, so no more than two 3.5" hard drives can be used. An SSD could fit elsewhere.

Less fans = less dust, less noise (unless your layout is good, running many high-quality fans at lower speeds). Cooling is good enough in standard cases without all the extras. I figured the more fans the better, but those are good points. Thanks again you've been a major help!

1st question - Time to upgrade my computer. I am looking for the best bang for buck upgrades I can get. My current specs are: - Intel i5 2400k - some big gigabyte xfire motherboard i dont have the name of right now - G.Skill Ripjaws-X F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL 8 GB : 2 x 4 GB Memory - DIMM 240-pin - 1600 MHz - Gigabyte Radeon 6850 - GIGABYTE Radeon HD 6850 1GB Video Card Overclocked - 1TB HDD I'm thinking that replacing the processor might be a bit out of my skill range, even though I would love to do it. So probably it will just be a graphics card upgrade (which i feel is easier?). For around 500 dollars, what would be my best upgrade path? 2nd Question - My friend wanted me to put together a computer for him to play SC2 and GW2, I was wondering if a cheap build such as below would be able to run it? - Intel Pentium G850 Dual Core Processor - 4gb Corsair Cheap RAM - Western Digital WD Blue 3.5" 500GB SATA 6.0Gb/s 7200RPM - Gigabyte GA-H61MA-D3V Micro ATX Motherboard - Generic Case - Radeon 6850 - Antec VP-350P VP Series 350W Power Supply Thanks for any replies.

Get an SSD, maybe a video card upgrade if fps / quality settings in games are not as high as you'd like. GTX 660 Ti is a pretty good value if you must have an upgrade. (edit: or maybe not in Australia) Something lower than HD 7870 that is not significant enough of an upgrade over an HD 6850, in my opinion. Personally, I recommend looking at better peripherals: monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers and/or headphones, unless those are all good already. That build for your friend is very good, just right. VP350P is surprisingly good, decently built—just make sure you don't use a full ATX case with power supply mounted on bottom, as the cables are short.

Here's my build! Feedback pleezz! http://pcpartpicker.com/p/g1O3 Not planning on overclocking despite the unlocked CPU thus no aftermarket heatsink P.S. I already have: Case (brother won it in SC2 Tourney <3) Mobo + CPU (Microcenter Rules saved me 50 bucks) Graci, Rkuro

A Rosewill Capstone 450 is cheaper and better. Currently is $59.99 on newegg www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182066 Also I would suggest buying an aftermarket cooler anyways, the stock intel one is about only good for basically a celeron/pentium and thats it. The cooler master hyper 212+ or evo is cheap and will drop the load temps by a HUGE amount compared to the stock cooler.

Also my brother said a similar thing about the heatsinks, i suppose i should listen to experience. Graci, Rkuro
