So how can you make sure that it's compatible with an ivy bridge straight out of the box? It seems only a very few models explicitly point out that it works with ivy bridge, but I'm sure other mobos can too.

GT 440 or SAPPHIRE 2048M HD6570 DDR III HDMI or 1024M HD6670 DDR 5 HDMI PCI-E /BULK/ What settings will sc2 run on these with an i5 2500k cpu? | ||

"Do you need an operation system?" an os is like windows 7, xp and things right? if it is, isnt this a must for a computer to be able to run? so how can you play sc2 without an os, or go to internet, or anything for that matter? | ||

That's assuming GF108-based GT 440, which the retail GT 440 are. Some OEM GT 440s are cut-down GF106, which would be faster. i.e. if it's GF108, that means it's just an overclocked GT 430. | ||

Linux based kernels are mostly free and even Microsoft offers the OS for free to students and the like. Making end users at home buy their OS is not a priority in any way. But I see what you mean with your question. It should more be like "Do you need [to buy] an operating system?" | ||

and if myrmidon says "good" for medium/high, it means the GPU will not be the limiting factor in fps (for sc2), especially at such a low resolution | ||

I have convinced my grandmother that her 12 year old computer is kaput. I need to make a build that will handle her email, document storage, and picture collection. I am thinking that $500 or $600 should cover it for these basic tasks. Please let me know if I am being reasonable with this price range, and any ideas for parts to get me started would be awesome. Please and thank you, Lawnie | ||

I posted earlier in the week asking for a suggested build. I haven't received a response yet. There is no rush, I was just thinking maybe it got over looked or your just busy. Ill post it here again. I only mention it because last time I asked for help I received a response right away. Hey guys, about to build a new rig and was looking for some suggestions. What is your budget? Looking to spend around $2000 What is your resolution? Depends on the game I'm playing but usually pretty high. Highest I use is 1920x1080, most aroud 1600x900/1600x1200. (still play cs 1.6 at 800x600). What are you using it for? This will mostly be a gaming rig but I do use my computer for video editing as well. What is your upgrade cycle? I would say my upgrade cycle is 2+ years When do you plan on building it? I plan on purchasing all the parts next month Do you plan on overclocking? I do like to have the option, I've done it in the past but I'll most likely be leaving this at stock settings Do you need an Operating System? Nope. already have a copy of windows 7 ready. Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? Yes, I will at one point in time add a second card but not looking to get two for the initial build. I would like to start with one solid card Where are you buying your parts from? I almost always use Newegg or online sites. No good PC stores in my area. Thanks again for your input! | ||

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I already posted a similar post earlier, but to the best of my knowledge nobody ever responded. Hopefully I didn't miss any responses. + Show Spoiler + Budget $1000...this is just for the computer. Resolution I'm not precisely sure...but I'm thinking: 1920 X 1080 Uses I plan to use it for gaming (SC2) and some random other stuff (most importantly gaming ). Upgrade Cycle I don't plan to upgrade for several years to come. So a minimum cycle of two years. When I plan on building it within the next couple weeks -> so very soon Overclocking I don't plan on overclocking at present. Operating System don't need one - using windows 7 Second GPU Hmm...I don't know much about this, but I'd say no. Location I'm from Salt Lake City, Utah USA. Thanks in advance. And if you might have a monitor suggestion that's around $200 and around 20 inches that would be helpful too! I think I want an i5 processor and the case does not have to be fancy (not very specific sorry). Thanks for all your great work! | ||
