His argument, and many others, is that even if the computer blows up he isnt on the hook for it.
Where this usually goes wrong is that its extremely aggravating having to deal with a computer being in the shop all the time meanwhile its not like they give you your money back for awhile.
I was actually less against the prebuilt before they offered him the upgrade to 850W. The offer is like, a blaring alarm lol.

For the whole system under fairly heavy loads. Of course, Cyberpower doesn't give you good unless you pay extra and know enough to know when an upgrade isn't an upgrade, like my friend who got a GTX 465 instead of a 460, as a "free upgrade". They told him it was out of stock, when he got the thing and said something, I told him it was a huge downgrade, showed him benches, and they somehow had the right card on the way the same day. So much for out of stock... Jingle, Hey I really appreciate the link. Is that factoring in only the video card using 300w? Or the whole system at that time? Here's an email for the customer service. 'After I review your order, I found the 700 watts power supply selected is not going to be enough for the setup you selected. I already free upgraded the power supply to 850 watts power supply for this order. Please reply this email to let me know which power supply you would like to change to?' o.o Someone telling me 500w is overkill, someone else telling me I need 850w. -_-aaaaaa
So believe people who build systems all the time and aren't trying to get you to pay more money to them. Or believe the people who will make money if you believe you need higher wattage.
Let me break it down for you. 850 Watts - Standard Power Supply - SLI/CrossFireX Ready [+41] = BAD DO NOT DO THIS IT IS A CRAPPY POWER SUPPLY MORE LIKELY TO FAIL THAN A GOOD ONE. STUPID, NO, SOMETHING ELSE, CHANGE THE OPTION.
500 Watts - Corsair CX500 V2 80 Plus Certified Power Supply [+24] = MUCH BETTER, HIGHER QUALITY, WON'T CRAP OUT ON YOU, PLENTY OF WATTAGE BECAUSE IT'S NOT LYING ABOUT WHAT IT CAN DO.
Clear enough? Asking again and again is not going to get you a different answer. The above is the truth, and it is up to you to believe it or not.
P.S. This is another reason it's better to build yourself. The cyberpowerPC is much more likely to break down after a couple of years if you take their advice, whereas the one you build yourself will actually keep working.
Of course you could go somwhere like falcon northwest and have them build you a computer. You'll pay $600-$800 more than building yourself instead of $300 or so more, but at least you'll know you're getting quality & good support.

I think a lot of people don't realize that when they build on their own the parts they buy are in fact under warranty.
On the other hand, some people genuinely would have no idea which part isn't working in the rare case something goes wrong.
|
Ive actually gone over the warranty duration of parts I buy a lot and they will still honor it anyway. Ive had great luck with ASrock and XFX in the past, Antec as well but I have not had a PSU conk out on me in forever. PSU's really are for forever.
These manufacturers dont seem to want to deal with middle men either and will bend way over backwards to avoid it. But Ive seen prebuilt owners not get any leash whatsoever and ive seen the build distributor also not honor rebates or totally legit warranties for various BS reasons.

Once again, thank you thank you thank you all that have been helping me.
Update:
I told them I'm okay with the 850w upgrade but I want a Corsair or Coolermaster 850w. I told them to charge me if its extra so once I hear back I'll let you know. Thanks for the PSU explanation.
-Someone else metioned the no HDD. I'm just going with a SSD 120GB. Heard Intel has great quality for SSD's. I don't need that much space. Just for a few games at a time, I have like 2-3gb on songs, 1 gb of pics. I don't have any vids or anything like that. If so, I can just buy an external hdd down the road for space if I need it.
-As far as the overclocking goes... You're absolutely right. I was considering x79 and 3820\2nd gen, but just decided on the z77/3rd gen i7's instead. CP didn't have the regular 3770, only the 3770k. *I did not get the 1 time overclocking protection thing that allows a free replacement proc* or I might've played around with over clocking in the future. I don't really think I will need it. (just assuming). The graphics hard and the 3.5ghz 4 core, 8 threads proc should be enough to run every game on Max for a few years...I believe?
thanks guys, I wish I could give you some Rep/karma points or something.

If they had to choose they are gonna give you a Coolermaster PSU which is going to not be a very good unit AFAIK.
|
Why would you get a 850w unit even after we all explained that it's not necessary....
Corsair AX, HX, TXv2, and TXM are all significantly better than what Coolermaster has to offer except maybe the Silent Pro Hybrid and Silent Pro M2 but I doubt Cyberpower has those in stock..
And ya.. you're going to be paying like $100 or more for these units. You're just throwing money out the window at this point.

Im looking forward to reading what these guys are gonna charge.
|
Those are all good (except definitely not the TR2 RX though its free upgrade is good, and maybe not the Toughpower Grand Gold), so whatever is cheapest of those is okay. I'm wondering what the extra charge is going to be too.

is overclocking really as simple as changing the base frequency & having a good heatsink/fan for it to be stable? not a super overclock like 5ghz but going to like 4.2 on a 3770k.
i know ive heard for the i52500k they say dont mess with the base clock speed.
|
CPU overclocking these days is mostly all done with a multiplier. And yes it's that simple, most motherboards will also just allow you to press overclock and viola, everything is done for you.

Hey guys,
I finally got my computer all setup and I've noticed that when my SSD is processing information it makes a really weird noise. It basically sounds like a very quiet version of a dentist drill.
Is there any way to diagnosis an issue like this? Or should I just RMA it?

Hi guys, I don't know that much about computers and I was thinking about getting the GTX 560 Ti. How would I know if it's compatible with my PC? I currently have a Nvidia Geforce GTS 450 and a Pentinum(R) Dual-Core CPU E5300 @2.60 GHz Thanks in advance, if there's any information about my computer that I need to add, I'll put it up. EDIT: Also, I'm getting a new graphics card for Guild Wars 2. I currently have 30 fps on low settings.
