When using this resource, please read FragKrag's opening post. The Tech Support forum regulars have helped create countless of desktop systems without any compensation. The least you can do is provide all of the information required for them to help you properly. |
Firstly, the motherboard does not match the processor. You need a z77 motherboard to overclock an Ivy Bridge processor, if you don't intend on overclocking, get a h77 motherboard and a non-k suffix IB. Spending more money on a motherboard than a bottom end reputable brand is a waste too, you should be only spending ~100-120 on a z77, less if you are getting a h77.
If you are overclocking, you will need a cooler, a ~$30 one like the hyper 212+ is adequate for most overclocks.
That case is extremely expensive, you're paying for flashy lights. If money is a concern to you, you can spend about 60-80 on a nice case. Many have been mentioned again and again in this thread.
Also, that power supply is extreme overkill for your system. It will not improve performance to have a massive powersupply, and it will make your power bills more expensive. The Rosewill Capstone 450W is a much better unit, assuming you don't want to SLI/CF in the future.
I'm fairly sure the 570 is obselete now with the Southern Islands GPU's release. Consider getting a 7870 instead for the same price, much better performance for money. http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/548?vs=518.

Im just using it for gaming mostly with max setting and i guess 1080 res but higher if the budget allows for it with like a 3 yr lifespan. one gpu should be fine and i havent overclocked before so probs not unless someone can make it sound worthwile to me

Let me help you out. Answer these questions: + Show Spoiler +Important questions you should ask yourself
If you request a build, please answer these questions. We will spend as much effort on your build as you spend on your answers to these questions! I urge people to abstain from providing builds unless all the questions are answered.
What is your budget?
This should be an obvious one, you should determine a price range that best describes how much you want to spend on your build. It makes it easier for people to make recommendations.
What is your resolution?
This is extremely important especially for a gaming machine. I see people all the time asking for a video card recommendation and 5 people reply "5850" and the person hasn't even given their gaming resolution; it turns out the person games at 1280x1024 and could have ended up wasting $200 on a card that is total and complete overkill for his resolution.
What are you using it for?
Mostly gaming? Some gaming with video encoding mixed in? Photoshop? Streaming? All this matters, you can end up spending a lot of money and not be able to do anything you wanted to or you can spend a lot of money on stuff you don't even want to do.
What is your upgrade cycle?
Knowing the answer to this question makes it easier for people to recommend CPU sockets and GPUs so you get the most for your money. A person with a longer upgrade (2+ years) cycle will probably end up spending more initially but end up saving more at the expense of some performance. On the other hand a person with a shorter upgrade cycle (1 - 2 years) wants to spend less initially so they can put more money toward their next build.
When do you plan on building it?
Computer parts shift in prices often. With the release of new products, exist prices may drop further. Even without the release of new prices, changes in supply can affect the price of a specific part. The HD 5850 was supposed to retail at the $260 mark, but in a mere 4-5 months after its release it climbed to top $300 for basic reference models.
Do you plan on overclocking?
If you plan on overclocking, the motherboard choice and heatsink choice will be affected. Enthusiast overclocking requires enthusiast heatsinks and at least a stable motherboard. A simple budget Foxconn motherboard will not be adequate for your overclocking needs!
Do you need an Operating System?
An OS is around $100. It affects how much of your budget we can spend on the actual hardware.
Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?
CrossFire and SLI are powerful solutions that allow higher performance, but in order to utilize them, we have to choose motherboards and PSUs that can support the increased demands that Crossfire and SLI place on your components.
Where are you buying your parts from?
If you have a nearby Fry's or Microcenter you can utilize their deals. If you're in Europe you obviously cannot use Newegg/Fry's/Microcenter so we need to know where you are from to put together a list of parts from a website or area you can actually buy from.
If you can't answer these questions, make sure you can answer them before you ask us to help you put together a list of parts for you. Every single question affects the build we will put together for you greatly so make sure you can answer them accurately!

I should be able to get one but if not it doesnt really factor into this budget for me personally, what to do about cases?
|
I have a 1920x1080p monitor i just found out about so would spending that extra 200-500 dollars be productive in anyway for keeping this puppy 3 years or will this rig have a nice lifetime?
|

Probably not, depending of what that monitor is. The U2412M will likely be better than it but probably not worth spending $300 for it.

OK thanks, sorry I derped and didnt read op (dat D3 server rage) but I really appreciate the help man

A few days ago I posted on this thread about a problem with my comp crashing, you guys were right, it was the lack of watts in the psu. Well I've got another problem, problems seem to constantly stream in >_<. My room turns into a sauna when I use the computer, I think my GPU is going nuts and getting the whole room hot, is there a way to fix this?
|
A friend of mine is interested in a new rig so here it goes..
What is your budget?
1200E with a monitor needed as well
What is your resolution?
1920x1200
What are you using it for?
Gaming mostly (sc2, mmo, cpu-heavy games)
What is your upgrade cycle?
about 3 years for components (cpu [if still available], gpu, [perhaps] extra memory), about 5 years for whole rig
When do you plan on building it?
2 weeks from now
Do you plan on overclocking?
yes
Do you need an Operating System?
Nope i have win 7 x64
Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?
No, I'd prefer one solid single-GPU for gaming.
edit: he lives in Greece so he will buy from greek shops (www.skroutz.gr, www.eshop.gr, www.plaisio.gr), mindfactory.de/hardwareversand.de, or ebay (at that order preferably). All in all, the cheaper the better!

Hello guys, please help me come up with an appropriate build!!!
One key thing you need to know is:
I am most interested in having a secure PSU, Motherboard, and Hard Drive.
What is your budget?
800 dollars
What is it used for? Mostly gaming, the games do not have to run at ultra high.. I just want the computer to be able to run things for the next 3-5 years on medium to high!
What is your resolution?
1440 x 900, 17 inch screen <- Take that into consideration before recommending a GPU.
What is your upgrade cycle?
3 years, 4-5 years for the entire rig
When do you plan on building it?
in 2 to 3 weeks
Do you plan on overclocking?
Yes I plan on overclocking both CPU and GPU(Please help me find a good combination that won't throttle each other). I also need a secure heatsink!!!
Do you need an Operating System?
No
Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?
No
Where are you buying your parts from?
Newegg, Microcenter

My room turns into a sauna when I use the computer, I think my GPU is going nuts and getting the whole room hot, is there a way to fix this? Have you tried monitoring your gpu usage with MSI afterburner? Does the room heat up rapidly when the computer is idle, or only when the gpu is under intentional heavy loads?
GPUs are supposed to get hot underload, and shunt that heat externally. Keep in mind they may consume up to like 200W (a top end gpu) under full load, and this is almost exclusively released as excess heat (essentially a small radiator heater when you take into account the fan).

holy fuck, $100 for 500gb caviar blue?
edit yep, thought that was way too much http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136769
that 'part picker' website seems to not have the right prices or pointing towards the wrong products. would be best to just browse the sites for whatever they have on sale. another example is the gskill memory, x series can be had for $10 cheaper than what you are listing there
