Yes the 560ti w/448 has nothing to do with a 560ti. It is in fact a 570 with an additional shader module cut out.

Correct.

In fact pretty much any tech product in the last 10 years you can think of is either a binned product or a product that is then binned to give other products. Somewhere around the pentium 4 era people realized they can sell defective products as different products and still make money as long as they make sure it doesn't blow up.

Also consider that back in the day before they started doing this (for CPUs / GPUs; it's very common in other fields too), the percentage of a die that could be defective and leave you with a working product, would be relatively small. There weren't multiple CPU cores, the CPU cores were larger relative to the cache, and of course GPUs looked nothing like they do now.

Hard drives, memory, etc. are binned as well.

Yeah thats true. IIRC GPU's have been doing it the longest, or at least help popularized it.

Thoughts on this motherboard?

Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3

There's a deal on where you basically get 8GB of ram for free with it, just wondering whether this is something I should jump on right away, or if it's not a big deal. I'll be building a PC with an i5-2400 and a gtx 460 which I plan to overclock. Hoping this motherboard won't cause any issues there.

So that's like $170 for a motherboard and 8GB of DDR3 RAM (rated 1.65V, 1600 MHz)? Unless you have an urgent need to be able to run SLI and have a USB3 internal header and 4 SATA3 ports and so on, you could easily get a different motherboard instead.

Both the motherboard and RAM prices are high compared to alternatives of equal features and quality; furthermore, depending on what you really need, you could probably use a motherboard in the range of $60-100 cheaper and be no worse off.

So no, that sounds like a pretty bad deal. There aren't exactly $45 of savings there, despite what it looks like.

That's a terrible deal. You're not overclocking so you shouldn't be looking at Z68 or P67 motherboards anyways. And even if you were, definitely not $170 boards...

So I came across this while surfing newegg i5-2550k.

So basically its a 2500k without a IGP that is stock clocked 100Mhz higher. From the review's, I gathered that it should be able to OC higher. Any grain of truth to this?

Not really. Being binned higher for frequency = better overclocker in most people's minds but overclocking really just comes down to RNG. Pretty terrible purchase at $230 btw.

I have no idea why they are selling 2550k for MORE than a 2500k when its the same thing with IGP binned, the higher clock speed is so irrelevant. Seems like opposite land.

Lol I really hope they don't do this (selling those with non functional IGPs) with Ivybridge.

Im fine with it. But only if the binned product is CHEAPER than the original. Paying more money to have Intel remove features is so silly.

i7 vs i5 for gaming, what's better and what's the difference? Cost, of course but what else?

i7 has hyperthreading, i5 does not.

Games do not utilize hyperthreading so both would be similar in gaming, the negligible difference would come from the negligible difference in cache and frequency.

So I've had my build now since December and have finally decided to overclock the cpu. Is there any problem using ASrock extreme tuner? Or should I just do it through BIOS. Never OC'ed before and the extreme tuner seems too easy...

(Basic budget build. Some of you helped me with it. i5 2500k, 560ti, etc etc)
I have a question...

Using Windows software to do CPU overclocks are never recommended.

If you dont know what you are doing just adjust the multiplier a little and leave vcore set to auto. Just dont go crazy.
