I have not noticed it since I switched to USB headphones, so I am kind of scared to go back to the regular 3.5mm jacks...
I use Plantronics GameComm Pro1 headset. I bought two pairs of these when they were on newegg so I would have a backup. I just recently swapped over to my second pair because the wires in the volume control in the middle of the cable started glitching the sound. They lasted about 4 years, which is pretty good in my book! Not the most comfortable though....
I was looking at the SteelSeries Siveria v2 USB or the new Corsair HS1 USB because they both have amazing ratings for comfort and sound quality. Yes it's noise/static usually the older your mobo is the worse that is. USB advantage is that it's a digital signal so if there is any loss of signal it usually doesn't effect the sound unless it's so bad but by then you just wont get any audio lol. The only problem with USB is companies need to write drivers for their products then and shit extra work!
I'd go with Corsair HS1 if you're looking for comfort as they didn't use a Leatherette for the cups of the ears for sound quality and noise isolation but instead used memory foam for comfort.
So corsairs is likely to be more conformable for longer periods. But they will sound about the same + corsair's has support for surround which if you play alot of fps games is nice.

I returned my Sennheiser PC 161s.. I know I just said I would support what FakeSteve said and not get any SteelSeries stuff but after reading everyone's posts and reading reviews.. I got the SteelSeries Siberia v2 USB And all I can say is... wow... The volume and bass on this thing is amazing. The sound is clear; The mic is clear; The thing is way more comfortable and lighter than the PC 161s and the best part? Only $10 more... And the thing has normal 3.5mm plugs anyway. So even if you don't want to use the USB, you don't have to. I am though just because I paid for it lol and I was only using my motherboards sound drivers.
It's really interesting how experiences can differ so much.
The Steelseries Siberia v2 are the worst headset I've ever had in every aspect except looks. The PC151 are superior in every way, especially sound quality (terrible bass on the Siberia v2), comfort. I keep repeating this in headset threads, but I really don't get the hype around the Siberia v2... maybe the one I had had some kind of manufacturing defect?

Or perhaps the PC 161 that I got was a defect =(
Either way; the price range is about the same for both. As long as you feel like you got your money's worth. I don't see a problem =]

But now the v2 is a closed air and uses a leatherette with 50nm drivers the bass should come out fine.

So, I need a new headset soon, since mine broke yesterday [Sennheiser PC151]. And I'm looking for a new one.. after reading some reviews the Sennheiser PC350 sticks out.. but then again there are a lot of complains that the sound quality isn't all that amazing, though the price is pretty high.. Also, the Siberia and v2 are pretty "crap" according to 5~ reviews. So, anyone here that can recommend me a good headset WITH a microphone? Price range around the PC350.

I recently just bought the PC350 since it was 50$ the other week. I have to i love them. I had the charcarias for a year which was ok, decent sound, noise leakage since its open air but the mic was mediocre. I tried switching to the siberia but the ear cups weren't very comfortable and mic was wasn't really noticeably better. I decieded to pick up a pc350 and its great. Ear cups are huge, completely circumaural so they fit nicely. The mic filters out a lot of the background noise like the buzzing and stuff. Once thing you'll notice, like in the reviews, they'll say it has a lack of base. it really..does. When you first use them you'll seriously be like "wtf?" thankfully, theres a mod for this where you open it up and drill a hole or two to allow the air to move and increase your bass. Sounded like a completely different headset after i did the mod, since it uses the 595 drivers its not that the drivers suck, just the can design. Soundstage is really wide and positioning is great if you play FPS. Just my opinion, i know a lot of people hate the pc350's but i'm very glad i picked them up.

I've heard a lot of great things about the Audio-Technica AD700 on a few different sites. It's a pretty cheap set and is worth looking into. One downside is it doesn't have a microphone, but you could just buy a desk mic or do some sort of Velcro mod to attach a boom to the side.

I'm using the Siberia V2 and it's one of the best headset I ever had...

Steelseries Siberia v2 is where it is at.

Does this come with a free devoice attorney once your wife learns you spend 900 bucks on a headset.

Turtle Beach It's like 50 euro (not sure in dollars) Is robust, looks cool and sounds awesome. Only downside: I think the 5m cabel is a bit overkill. But if you pay like 20 bucks more you can have the wireless version

I just bought the Siberia v2 and so far Im pretty happy. They are comfortable to wear for long periods of time, and the sound quality is pretty good. The bass isn't amazing, I have heard better earbuds(which i find uncomfortable) and head sets(I have a studio headset from the 80s that weights 5 pounds) but I honestly think the bass is still pretty good.
The mic is a little weak, i need to turn the mic volume all the way up in windows and ventrillo, but its good enough for communicating with, if you are looking to do casting you should prob pick up something different.
And of course they are very pretty, especially the orange version

I bought Siberia V2 about a year ago and I've never had better headphones !!
It's great for several hours of gaming, very comfy and good sound quality.
The mic is indeed a bit weak but it's no big deal ppl hear you just fine if you turn the volume up a bit.

The most expensive ones. Hurr durr. No seriously, I'd recommend the Siberia V2 as well. Can be found pretty cheap nowadays, ~35$.

How big is the difference between the normal Steelseries siberia v2 and the ones with the usb soundcard, assuming your soundcard is fairly cheap? Is it worth paying ~$20 extra for it (and not being able to get it in orange!)?

steel series: Siberia V2. i got 'em they are fucking great highly recommended.
