Well this is how I think about it, look at the length of Blizzards earlier betas:

Starcraft beta: < 4 months
Brood War beta: < 2 months
Diablo II beta: 3 months
Diablo II: LoD beta: 2 months
Warcraft III beta: 4 months
Warcraft III TFT beta: 4 months
WoW beta: 5 months
WoW TBC beta: 2 months
WoW Wotlk beta: 4 months

So I guess the beta is going to be < 4-5 months long. Then I think it would be perfect to release it before the holidays in november-december, or even earlier if they start in the early summer.

The original WoW beta went from March till November, which is 8 months. It wasn't 5. TBC also went from September till December or January, which is longer than 2 months. But MMO's are a lot different, beta-wise.

I just raised my hand in triumph in the middle of class and then got called on. Luckily, I am a true genius and knew that fwrite and fread both returned size_t. Thanks for making me look smart and for the great news. OP is my daily hero.

Summer is officially June 21 - September 21. But I doubt they'll follow that exactly. Personally, I'm hoping for before June 21.

Hmm... if they start the beta at the end of June, and do a 4 month beta, A 2009 release would not give a lot of time for production/distribution...

Summer goes from June 21st (the summer solstice) to September 21 (the autumnal equinox)

They'll probably arrange the beta so the game will be ready for release during the holiday season.

If anyone thinks Blizzard is aiming for the holidays you are totally wrong. They are well beyond the need for "Black Fridays" and Christmas sales. I would suspect another "when its done" release date.
