I believe that it would be very convenient to put a "view replay" button at the victory/defeat screen right after each game. this way, right after the game, you can view the replay without having to go all the way to starting another game. obviously u can do it the normal way too, but that does take a little longer, and having the auto-view-replay button there would be awesome.
also, it'll be nice to watch the replay with the other person if they click it too.
what do you guys think?
Edit: if there is such a thing as saving replay states whenever you press ctrl+s, or if the replay state is saved every 30 seconds or something (saving replay states during a replay would basically mean that you can rewind a replay without increasing the replay file size), then the auto-view-replay would be even more awesome cause u'll be able to analyze the replay right after the game, and rewind and fast forward by saving/loading replay states.
i believe that on iccup and what not, 90% of the time, both players will want to view the replay. the loser will want to improve, the winner might as well to be a good sport and plus, it feels good, and at high levels, both players always make mistakes so both players will want to view the replay. when both players are viewing, with save/load states 90% of the time after a game, that would be pretty sweet. talking to an opponent after the game might also get rid of so much of the animosity of online play where basically people are bitches. more talking and analysis is good =).
also, on iccup, the post-game analysis will most likely be with people that are on your level. and if you get beat by a strategy, the person that will be best able to comment on it will be the person who just beat you, and he'll be right there. makes way for great learning curves.
edit: i'm also noticing that a lot of bnet has those "1v1 longinus play or obs". it'll be a nice treat for obs to see and join in the end game analysis. in these games a lot of times, there are like, 2-3 gosus, and the rest are noobs who want to see awesome players, and hopefully improve. heck, i honestly think all iccup games should be on obs maps, so random D players (ahem, myself) can join games and obs, and see the discussion afterwards.
all in all, i think this is a small additional functionality that is easy to add, that will have a large positive impact on the "starcraft experience", making it better for everyone.

Nice idea, but it will also save replays right away. I like it

Well there has been several suggestions for replays Most of the time
Will we be able to see replays over B.net
Will there be a reverse setting
Will there be a restart setting atlest
Will there be the like auto type tracking of the action like in WC3 only better of course etc etc.

This is the kind of idea you cant really dislike.. yeah, we need this
|
ppl plz comment on auto-replay! ^__^

I think that it'd be nice if all replays opened in Starcraft just by clicking them. Currently you have to open BW and then go look for them; it'd be really nice if I could just click on a replay and directly jump to watching it in SC.

What thunk said, and also I think you can already view reps on bnet o-O.

it would still be best if right after the game when it says "you win" screen pops up, and before both players leave the game, you could click "view replay" right away. you can also chat with the other person who just surrendered and ask him to view the replay with you. (or ask the person who just won to review the replay with you.)

wtb> LastLastLastReplay, LastLastReplay, and LastReplay, for the forgetful ones ; )

I liked the auto view replay idea. It would go well together with some of those "auto rematch" ideas.
Imagine that if after a game ends, instead of getting automatically back to the chat channel you were:
* The same game would be automatically recreated, same name/psw * both players would automatically join it * this game has these options: -- watch last game replay (together) -- play rematch -- change map -- back to chat channel * you invite new friends/obs etc * then play rematch or watch replay

Better yet, autosave with this naming format:
Playername1(P/T/Z)-Playername2(P/T/Z)-Date
|
you should be able to edit it so that it formats it the way you want
[name1][race1][name2][race2][date] with changeable ish :D

Warcraft III only saves the last rep under LastReplay, and overwrites everytime.
It would be better if it were an integrated feature rather than a plug in (I know chaoslauncher has it)

i think you guys are missing the point. auto-review-replay isn't just about making it more convenient to watch the replay. if it becomes standard to watch the replay after the game, possibly with the opponent, it changes the whole vibe of the starcraft online community.
and it shouldnt be a small button in the corner somewhere. it should be right next to the "ok" and "continue playing" button:
"You have failed to Achieve victory!" "Ok", or "continue chat with opponent while viewing replay"
|
I don't really see the necessity or demand for that. For me it is not a hassle to quickly host a replay as it is done so in a few seconds and to assume that this would "change the whole vibe of the starcraft online community" is imho silly.
However, I also do not see how it could hurt anyone to have this button/feature integrated.

it'll be nice to have automatic games hosted for big games, such as rank #1 vs rank #2 games. People would love to see how good these players are. Spectator friendly interface is very important for competitive scene.

Spectator friendly interface is very important for competitive scene. I suggested this before. Have you ever played guild wars? In that game you can at anytime press B and go into observer mode. That will give you a list of top 20ish games played in the last 30 minutes or so. You join a game hosted by the server (much like watching replay with friends in SC). Often times the players who played those games themselves will join to watch it and share commentaries about it with the random newbies watching it. It is a great way to: A) help newbies learn the game B) show us recent top replays C) opportunity to talk to top players D) get community together C) increase interest to spectating -> esports
It would be awesome if in SC2 bnet would automatically host replays from top ladder games and those would be easily accessed by anyone in a chat channel with 1 or 2 clicks.

As we know WC3 uses automated matchmaking system which most likely SC2 uses too so not really needed custom games (gn/pw etc) unless special practise.
As for top player replays, Blizzard is capable to follow top players games by their www.battle.net service (only blizzard guys could open replays for public though). Even tournament games had autoreplay feature (you could download games but no more it seems). Replays were specified with certain name which you couldn't change or replay would not work and it didnt had any chatting either. So Blizzard is capable for this feature already.
And WC3 will have new autoreplay (autonames replays) thing with new patch (beta realm is up already)

A Rewind button too please.
Playing replays on B.net? Yeah you should be able to do that in SC2 as you can in SC1. I've seen it.
