He took 2nd place vs Life in GSL 2015 with a 3-4 finals scoreline, he had an invincible build that nobody else could pull off for a while, and other solid results 2014-2015. He arguably had the best micro in all SC2 history, regularly beating Maru in micro battles.
Funny enough though, you know who Parting could never best in micro battles in all the years I watched him? Marineking. 2011-2012 Marineking vs Parting was the epitome of SC2 micro battles and Marineking beat him a lot more often than not.
Was some of the most fun I've had watching TvP. The game has changed since then and Marineking is obviously no longer playing, but I find it humorous that even though Maru has surpassed Marineking in every other way, he never had Parting's number the way that Marineking used to.

Well MarineKing had the best micro for a while so it wasn’t that surprising. Maru was too young in MKP’s prime (no pun intended) and ByuN too much of a choker, so the best micro Terran was MKP during WoL!

nah, Flash definitely had more reputation than actual skill at that point, as the elitist posters on TL.net constantly pointed out (Life beating Flash at MLG was the greatest thing that ever happened to us that year).
But obv Flash is still Flash in terms of name value, and u gotta hype the shit out of that for less cynical fans.

I'm still bitter about MKP getting a re-game in a completely lost game against Parting due to internet issues before resume from replay was a thing. I feel that result permanently tilted Parting against MKP.

That's an interesting conspiracy theory.
A win's a win though. Not that it mattered because the bigger story from that tournament (it was IPL4 I think) was Broodlord/Infestor.

Hmm, I don't remember Parting too well from those early days... I think he powered up the micro over time. I remember when he seemed like the junior counterpart to Squirtle.

No he was a totally different player than Squirtle even back then. Squirtle in his day was the master of timings and build orders a lot like Trap is now.
Parting back then was superb in his control of units, specifically Sentries vs Zerg and High Templar vs Terran.
Parting has had a reputation ever since he got big of having great micro among Protoss players, but really only for ground units. Other Protoss have had success with air units that Parting has never relied on.

Impressive win by Parting! Looking forward to Group B

Solar beat Maru in NeXT, I stand to my word that Group D is a contender for group of Death, although yes, if you allow the "there's no group of Death" then there is probably none. But for me group of Death isn't only about the strength of the players, but about unpredictability. I think PartinG has a good shot at beating Solar and Trap, and as such I find group D pretty tough to predict.
For group B, I think Inno and Dark are pretty damn likely to advance, even if nothing is guaranteed. Group A is another contender, Rogue is a huge favorite but otherwise? Byun and Bunny should battle for 2nd, I wasn't impressed of Percival against ForGG at all. For Group C I think Maru and sOs once again are the huge favorites, but Zoun and Ragnarok are very strong players sometimes and so this group is great too.

Agreed. For me, a "group of death" depends on scoring pretty high on both of two criteria: 1. Is the overall skill of the group pretty high, especially compared to the other groups? 2. Are the players around the same level, making the outcome of the group hard to predict?
In groups of four, having only one or two amazing players doesn't make the group a "group of death", imo. Similarly, having a full group of mid-level players doesn't make the group a "group of death" either, imo.
A group of death makes me think "holy shit, most of these games are going to be high level and I have no idea who's going to win".
