ByuN's health issues were front and center on day one of Super Tournament 2, as he had to request yet another mid-game pause due to wrist pain in his RO16 bout vs Dark. It was ByuN's second consecutive GSL studio appearance with a pause for wrist pain, as ByuN had paused the game for the same reason during his Code S RO16 match against Maru in October (Maru won 2-0).
It was an especially unfortunate loss for ByuN, who was up 2-0 and in the midst of a tight game three when he had to request a pause. GSL rules do not permit pauses for 'personal' reasons unrelated to hardware or in-game issues, and ByuN was given a warning and the game was resumed after a short respite. Dark ended up coming back to take a 3-2 reverse sweep, using Lurker-centric armies to take down the recent ASUS ROG Online championship.
Elsewhere in the bracket, TY overcame a strong challenge from underdog Hurricane to take a 3-2 series victory. Hurricane played a style that looked to crank out mass Gateway units off of three bases, and TY seemed vexed by the size and strength of the Protoss army at times. Ultimately, the series was decided by a signature TY Hellion-drop in game five, with TY crippling the Protoss economy early and snowballing his early lead to a win.
Trap vs Solar ended in another 3-2 scoreline, with the former Jin Air Protoss coming out on top. Solar was able to take game two with an early game Roach-Ravager-Ling all-in, and game four by jumping on an over-aggressive Glaive-Adept dive from Trap. But in the other three games, Solar just couldn't handle Trap's deadly mid-game attacks with Blink-Stalkers supported by Robotics units.
sOs vs Zest was the only series that didn't go all five games, with sOs winning in a 3-0 sweep. The strange series was decided by sOs' Dark Templars, which came out at seemingly 'random' timings to catch Zest off-guard in three consecutive games.
Coming up: Super Tournament 2 will continue on Saturday, Dec 05 8:00am GMT (GMT+00:00) with the remaining round of sixteen games.
These recaps are always nice for those that don't have time to watch the entire series. I would've loved to see the old TL detailed breakdown of each series but we take what we can get at this point.
I wonder if the desk/PC/chair at GSL isn't setup properly for him? Seems odd that he could play so many games for ASUS Rog and other online events without requesting a pause but he couldn't make it through 3 games here.

Maybe it acts up more or less depending on any given day?
He obviously deserves to qualify for TSL and IEM, but I almost wonder if it's better he doesn't so he can take care of his wrists. It's not like this is the first time this has happened...

I mean he still plays loads of long bo9 alpha x showmatches pretty much every week from the looks of it, so think he will just play more of those instead now.
I empathize with ByuN's wrist pain coming back at the worst possible time. Hope he is able to have a professional and/or coach have him rest and recover. Love watching his play and his matches, but his wrist needs to stay healthy and well for even his post-SC2 life.

Flash had serious surgery done on his wrists once. He has enough money to get the PT advice on his own I think. Not too optimistic about the care given to programers personally :/

Maybe it's the fact that he did play so many games that he now can't make it through 3 games here. They were long days to just watch, so it probably got worse for him over time.

Just this year we got reports for health issues for Dark, formerly T1 player and Maru, until recently still JAGW player.
During the KeSPA days we had reports of wrists issues for Maru and I'm sure others will remember some other players. I actually start to believe some players either ignore these advices(because they have their habits from their youth and they cannot get used to the proper stance - e.g.), or they don't get anything. Because Flash issues and operation is old and we're still getting new players with them health issues.
(also considering how all the Life shit happens, if the rumors about gambling are true, I doubt that they get any health stuff even more - edit - this is not shift Life's shit onto KeSPA - even if true, too late - but more an illustration of the health stuff)
he really is somebody who never holds back. That's what I love about him, but I do hope he takes care of himself. I do also think a lot of this might just be because Byun knows that sc2 won't be around for very long, and that he wants to push himself as far as possible while there is still attention on the game he plays. I don't know what he'll do once GSL is done with sc2, but I do hope he stays in gaming. He is just one of those people you'll never forget.
