This series taught me that tvt banshees are good

Banshees suck because everyone in TvT opens raven, and usually 1-2 cyclones. TY just worked out when Maru wasn't going raven (Ice and Chrome + Golden Wall) and basically won the games with a cloak banshee(s).

Great write up too

Don't know, Maru had a good run at Katowice, won ST and King of Battles. But probably TY it is, but it would be much easier to tell had he had a better result at Katowice or ST.

ST + King of Battles is nowhere near 2 Code S come on now. Rogue has a better case.

This was by far the best GSL final of 2020. Congrats to TY's success this year. Maru will get the G5L eventually!

A low bar. It's definitely one of the best ones in LotV overall (given that we usually don't get more than 1 decent final per year).

Amazing tournament from TY. He was in such good shape in all of his matches. So nice to see him avenge that 2018 loss too.

Imagine if TY hadn't screwed up in game 7 of that 2018 code s finals. Then it would be TY and Maru with three championships each today. Funny that in the end it is only that one game which separates them.

These finals were awesome!
Stopped watching ESL content in 2022 when the company was acquired by Savvy Gaming Group. Also object to sponsorships by the U.S. Air Force. Thanks for the lively discussions about sportswashing. StarCraft II is not for me anymore.

I'm still so bummed I did not find the energy to watch the vods... will probably do apparently it's an amazing series.
Super mega disappointed Maru could not lift the cursed G5L trophy but TY is an amazing player as well, so congratulations to him. I hope to see Maru win another GSL title before the end of it...
Amazing year in Korea for TY, 2 wins and a ro4. That would be considered insanely good if Maru did not top that with 3 GSL wins in a year (even 4 in a row).

Yeah player of the year has to go to either TY, maybe Rogue has a case if he wins Super Tournament.

TY being outstanding in GSL but invisible in other tournaments is a bit strange though.

Interestingly Maru was only a couple games off winning both Katowice and this Code S, which would have undoubtedly swung it over to him.

Honestly TY should have won their last GSL finals encounter so it feels good that he got his revenge.

ST and KoB are trivial when compared with Code S, think of 2018-19, while Maru won 4 consecutive GSL, he got none ST.

RIP Golden Wall

Great last game for an amazing map that definitely produced some memorable and unpredictable games in 2020.

Also great map for someone as creative as TY, who was 12-1 on it in GSL. The loss was an amazing close game vs. Parting. Also remember his Douyu cup win vs. Parting that was one of the most unlikely wins (given how hard his cheese was shut down) ever. I think it was even with his tournament life on the line.

Also agree about the write up (except for missing the 2 HP). Easily one of the most exciting GSL finals and most certainly one of the highest caliber finals in terms of skills and decision making.

Terrans winning might make me generally dry heave, but if any Terran is gonna win TY is one I’m capable of genuinely being happy for, plus Maru losing does my heart good.

Rogue has the same issue as every year, won something, totally didn't deliver anywhere else.

And yet he had good runs outside of the Code S while TY had literally only Code S good runs. Like I say, it is him but his outside Code S performance wasn't even close to Maru's 2018 and it's not like he was sometrhing special(outside of WESG)
I imagine France should be able to take this unless Lilbow is busy practicing for Starcraft III. | KadaverBB is my fairy ban mother.

He’s the kind of Terran that has dominant streaks that make me bored of the game. It stops being who will win?! and becomes *yawn* Maru doesn’t have TvT guess he wins why bother watching.

Rogue and Bo7s is on that same boring level, and I’d think the same of Serral and Reynor too if they didn’t stir so much dumb community shit up since I like to read the drama lol.

Overall, predictability in SC2 is something I find boring, TY is at least the kind of player that can do weird stuff to liven games up.

Also I grew up with GomTvT and I’m a Protoss fan, so I’m predisposed to dislike Terran from my WoL genetics.

It is, and it's the same with Stats (although he has started to win some ESL cups). What is it with these KT/Splyce/Afreeca bois

Is it actually strange considering almost every noteworthy tournament this year has been an online event running at the same time as Code S? It's pretty undeniable that the prep format of Code S was his primary focus. Also not like it's complete invisibility what with us being 1 map away from KoB and Code S having the same finals.
