Earlier today, SCBoy and Netease have announced that all purchases of War Chest 6 made from the 10th of August to the 2nd of September will help upgrade the prize pool of the Gold Series Team Championship 2020 Fall Season, which has had its first matches today. 25% of every sale will go towards this purpose. This offer is only available to users in China.
For now, the War Chest will offer the same in-game items as in the rest of the world, but SCBoy have long had the ambition to offer up exclusive items via War Chest, such as team icons, sprays and portraits of the clubs playing in the league, to further support the tournament. Coming to this agreement with Netease seems like an important first step to make this into a reality when the next season comes around.
Update from August 25th: Announcers and Co-op Commanders now included in deal.
Prize Pool increases from War Chest sales
1st: 40% | 2nd: 25% |3rd: 15% |4th: 10% | 5th: 4% | 6th: 3% | 7th: 2% | 8th: 1%
GTC Fall Prize Pool
1st: ¥100.000 | 2nd: ¥60.000 | 3rd: ¥40.000 | 4th: ¥30.000 5th: ¥20.000 | 6th/7th: ¥15.000 | 8th: ¥10.000
Regular Season MVP: ¥5.000 | Playoffs MVP: ¥5.000
GTC All-Star Tournament Prize Pool
1st: ¥20.000 | 2nd: ¥10.000 | 3rd/4th: ¥5.000 | 5th-8th: ¥3.000

this is great news! I love mirror matches with different skins. Raynor's Raiders Versus Dominion Special Forces is my favourite. I can pretend it is "The Hammer Falls" all over again.

Interesting..
Can Chinese forumers explain how the previous War Chests used to work in the CN region? It's a really interesting development that the same product is being sold two different ways (especially given the now-deleted comments about how SCBoy didn't seem happy with War Chest Team League).

Happy to see the the GTC getting some additional support. Team specific items would also be really cool, although I hope that won't be exclusive to users in China. Would love me some GTC items and support the league as well.

this is a first for CN region too. SCboy now has a special QRcode at the side when they broadcast GTC. Scanning the code will take you to a Netease webpage and any warchest purchase through that will be counted towards GTC.

good thing I bought warchest earlier this week! I expect to see more action from this tournament

This is a great news. If I understand correctly, only money from China's users will go to GTC. Is the money from users from elsewhere going to have another purpose linked to a Team League?

Money from the international War Chest is used for the War Chest Team League running at the moment. Though it's a very different team league.

I see. I thought it was only with the previous iteration of the War Chest. Thank you!

Previous WC sales in China were utilized in the same way as the rest of the world. For this I imagine NetEase being in charge of Chinese servers and Chinese esports gives them leverage to do so and I personally have no problems with it. Regarding the WCTL thing it was also mostly a communication error instead of any real hurt feelings.

I love it. China is doing so much for SC and the scene.

Seems cool. How big is the CN SC2 player base exactly.

Imagine what SC2 would have been post Kespa without Scboy, JAGW, Olimoley, TB and BTTV...

I have an awesome update on this story:
It seems this deal has been very successful for both Netease and SCBoy, so it is being extended to Announcers and Co-op Commanders as well. Their purchases will also contribute 25% of the sale price to the prize pool of GTC.
