Rip the ByuN dream (he is getting discharged from the Army on the 31st so he can't play in this).

Question is going to be, if he could theoretical get enough points from ST 2 and ESL Opens alone to qualify for Katowice - and if his level is even good enough to get those results. Ladder isn t everything in the end.

there will a global (probably offline) event in January which will give a direct seed to Katowice and probably many points too
|
So I guess this means season 3 will be played immediately after the ongoing season. And will then be over by the end of October. So the only Korean SC2 from then to Katowice in February/March will be ST2.
Weird scheduling this.
|
Yeah, they could have easily streched it a bit, instead of sticking to the old schedule from previous years, were everything had to be done for BlizzCon.

I'll see what I can do, but after two consecutive "no" answers, I'm not hopeful.

do you speak of the presumed IEM China event?
I'm quite hopeful that the global pandemic situation improves enough so that we can still have it, but I don't want to count chickens before they hatch

meh, one would think there'd be no rush to have the third season start this early, what with blizzcon having been axed and all

Well, I think with the pending military service of players like soO, Zest, and Stats, and the large # of play-in spots in the new IEM Katowice format, ByuN has an outside chance of making it with a very good Super Tournament 2 run :o

yay! congrats Creighton and thanks for all you do!

YES, really hyped for this, the qualifiers usually bring some really exciting matchups that also sometimes ends up being very important series. Always so sad when I see those pivotal series taking place and knowing they weren't casted.
|
Will play in the GSL qualifier. Hope to have some fun.
|
Looking forward to watching this.
|
I'm super hyped we are going to get coverage of this even if it isn't live. I imagine that was part of it, a lot of players not wanting to have obs during their matches for various reasons (lag, stress, etc). This seems like the best of both worlds, players can focus on the day of and we can watch the results. Here's hoping we get some of the epic results we've seen the past few qualifiers.
Big thanks to CO for his efforts in getting us this content!

Apparently he's been cited as a practice partner by multiple players and has at least 1 account near/at the top of the ladder in Korea. I wouldn't be surprised if he qualifies. Should be interesting

Not necessarily. The missing "regulars" could still show up tomorrow, when things are expected to be easier as the strongest opponents already qualified today. Seems strange not to take both your chances at it, but maybe the stress of playing today is detrimental?
Also, you counted Byun as a regular already?!

Zest 2-1 CoCa

is that THE CoCa?? If so...stick around friend!

This is the same 3 tries (or 6 with double elim) format as last season, right? In that case, everyone who is supposed to qualify is gonna do that tomorrow despite the upsets

maru qualified over Ragnarok

Matches left are Zoun - Teaja + Winner - Dark and Special - soO E: soO 2-0 Special, only Darks group left Teaja 2-1 Zoun, now vs Dark

Left for Tomorrow are Armani Special Super Inno Creator Zoun Dark Ragnarok Prince Dream Hurricane Bomber

If Dark falls to TaeJa here, he really is in bad shape at the moment.

same for Billowy, who was defeated twice in the decisive series in day 2 in both S1 and S2 (beating Dream, Astrea, Trap, kiwian, Zoun in the process)

Group C looks doable for CoCa, depending on who is going to be the fourth player.

That was in the last season as well. Zest lost like 3-4 times and still managed to qualify through that bracket, its pretty much impossible not to qualify if you are somewhat decent..

It‘s mainly a way to bring new players in. And looking at the bracket, there seem to be quite a few players I have never seen in GSL having a shot to qualify. Which is good for the scene in general.

this 4 bracket will be incredibly luck based last season formula for the last round was clearly much fairer

it's basically the worst formula they could ever make up: If Creator didn't lose to Natural, bracket A would've had Creator, Bomber and Prince while the other 3 brackets being a joke in comparison and 2 guys didn't even play so 2 brackets are actually 3 man brackets...
they waste 2 days with useless double elimination brackets just to confirm that the top guys qualify (like there's a realistic chance of someone else eliminating them in 2020) then for the last spots, the ones that really matter in a qualifier, they do this? come on! i'd rather have the entire RO16 of S2 invited to S3 and a more meaningful qualifier, a real code A, for the last 12 spots
|
Natural, Spear, Percival, and Chance would all be new to code S right?

It's tough to be a fan of Creator but today is a good day

Unfortunately I think Korea was ignored for too long for new players to enter the stage. The damage seems irreversible. At this point, old players will return and some of them might do well (I‘d be surprised if ByuN didn‘t do well, tbh) , but I don‘t see young players joining the scene.
Although I would disagree that the state is sad. It‘s just kind of... fixed with little to no change in the field. The players that are there are mostly still good though. Some might get smashed, but that happens in every sport, every league - and even in Finals.

The sky has been falling since 2011. I know someday GSL will be over but it's not this year and I'm going to keep enjoying it as long as it lasts.

For guys that are worried about GSL becoming less competitive, please keep in mind that because of the Covid situation we only have Special as the sole foreigner still in Korea.
Hopefully next year when the situation eases, we have players like Astrea, Scarlett and even EU ones qualifying and making GSL very competitive and exciting.

Actually having less foreigners means more monies to the Koreans, especially some new talents in Korea. What Blizzard couldn't have done while doing it for their foreigners must have done some silly named stupid virus.

Can't say I'm enthused about fewer Koreans in the one whole one tournament left to them. I'd be a lot happier to see no foreigners making it and a new crop of Koreans in their place...

The chance for some new blood is now but it doesn't seem anyone is really interested in taking it. Maybe Korea needs Starcraft 2 mobile for it to be competitive
