Do you think it would be possible for Starcraft II to have some kind of dual monitor support?

It really sucks to have to look at that other monitor completely fucked up when you're playing a game or chatting on b.net. I usually just turn the other monitor off. but whenever i need to go back to my desktop, i must turn it back on and wait a few seconds. (yeah, CRTs suck) Overall it's a pain in the ass.

More and more people are beginning to use multiple monitors and i think it would be great if we would be able to see the desktop perfectly clear and functional (optional) at the same time as b.net or a game.

Another thought - Being able to play a game while on the other monitor, be in a channel and possibly be chatting (or at least be able to view the channel) I also think this would encourage clans/teams to form because it would be more social based if you're able to be in the channel at all times.

I don't know if there are enough multi monitor users right now to take this feature into consideration, but i'm sure there will be in the future. Maybe this is a feature that blizzard will want to take advantage of first?

If there is a program that changes the resolution on the other monitor so it views normally and also allows the mouse to go to the other monitor while playing a video game then i guess this idea wouldn't be too innovative, but some built in support would be awesome at least

I'm thinking blizzard will include all kinds of viewing options such as multiple monitors and widescreen mode/widescreen replays, etc. Because this game is like a sport and viewing becomes a very important aspect.

and yes, widescreen support

or perhaps, in 2v2, the other monitor will be what your partner is seeing. you will see exactly what he's doing, and so on. This will also serve as a good method for teaching and partnering up

In any given game, both players must use the same viewing options.

Hmm, I have the same setup. Primary monitor is a 17" LCD, secondary is 17" CRT. It doesn't really bother me too much. I'm not really looking at the 2nd monitor while playing SC. It's like this with every game though, except SC just uses less colors and defaults to 800x600. With newer games, like Half Life 2, you can just run at native resolution, and your other monitor will look fine.

That's too bad, but that is the way it is sometimes. Some users will have laggy connection (56k), some with weak hardware (slow PC), and so on. More and more users are getting widescreen. Widescreen comes with every Desktop + LCD bundle I've seen.

Though dual monitor probably will not ever be the standard, if SC2 would implement dual monitor support, it would be nice too. In SC1, I can see my chat and other programs on the other screen, but they are on 640x480 resolution .

I don't see how widescreen is an advantage. All it's gonna mean is a different resolution. You'll just be able to see more horizontally, but less vertically.

And if it turns out to be such a huge advantage, it's not like widescreen monitors are particularly expensive anymore.

widescreen support would be great. it's the future.
and yes you have an advantage with it. you'll have 16:10 when instead of 4:3 (1024*7768) or even 5:4 (1240*1024). so you don't see less vertically, but more horizontally.

I have a pair of 19" LCDs as my dual monitor setup, and its very annoying playing Starcraft on it because I have Vista, which isn't meant to go down into 640x480 on the desktop.

That said, I do believe it gives me a marked advantage at Supreme Commander (the only RTS I have with it implemented) because I can see an orbital view and a ground view at the same time, while others have to zoom in and out. For that reason I don't think it will/should be in Starcraft 2, because everything in SC seems geared to making the deciding factor skill, as opposed to who has more money for hardware. Hence why SC was in 640x480@256 or whatever. That wasn't a standard in '98 that I can remember, but that combined with the use of sprites etc. meant that just about every PC around was able to run it comfortably.

I kinda hope they do something similar for SC2, to level the playing field. Even though it would be nice if there was some serious eye-candy etc., I doubt there will be. Look at C&C3 (I know I know I hate it too), the requirements for that are rock-bottom by todays standards, I reckon SC2 will be the same.

EDIT: I don't like widescreen, BTW. My two 19" are 1280x1024 native.

I hate widescreen. The guy who invented it should be locked up. It's not about the size itself, which is fine, it's about standards here. Plz ever think up ONE and stick with it. Now everything is messed up, just like in TV/movie world. 4:3, 16, 2.35:1, i wonder if anyone can still view anything full screen without black bars.

To keep things fair, I don't think they should make the viewable play area bigger than one screen.

Though they could fill the second screen with information, like hot keys for new players. Also in replays, it might be used to display statistics (minerals mined, etc)

Instead of giving a player 2 views of the map which would be an insane advantage, 1 screen could be filled up completely without the onscreen interface. Like what rockstar101 mentioned, the 2nd screen could be filled with more information for replays.

perhaps this option would only be allowed if all 4 players had dual screen.

cause this would be really useful, often i wonder WTF my partner is doing

I like the idea of having one primary game screen while the other screen shows the minimap.. only it's a minimap scaled up to the same resolution as the other screen and so it could show more detail... that would be really cool i reckon... a whole monitor dedicated to minimap

Nah it's perfect, it means degenerates like myself can read TL AND watch a movie at the same time.

Or, play 8 tables of poker full size.

Or, watch two movies at once in different media players (lol ok this one is not that useful ;D).
+There's an inherent 'awesome' effect of having two 20" flat monitors next to eachother!
