The WCS Spring qualifiers/Challenger tournaments came to an end as Neeb claimed the first place spot from the North American region with a 4-0 victory over JonSnow.

The conclusion of North America's Challenger tournament finalizes the list of sixteen players who have earned direct seeds (as well as travel and accommodations) into group stage #3 of the upcoming WCS Spring tournament in Kiev (May 17-19). The seeded players will compete against 64 open bracket contenders at WCS Spring for the first unified WCS Circuit championship of the year, as well as a seed at the WCS Global Finals.

Wow Neeb is a god. He may not have beat the strongest players but names do not matter, results do!

Especially with Scarlett not competing was easy money for Neeb, I think Puck was his hardest challenge.

Great to see Neeb make it all the way and win the entire tournament. (Recovering from his bo3 lose to Idraling in group stages)

Nice to see jonsnow playing some good games. 4-0 looks awful but it wasn't like the games were lopsided

Serral in EU, Neeb in NA things back to audience expectations. Sadly maru lost. I would watch a bo7 round robin between maru serral and neeb

Great work Neeb.

Also particularly excited for TLO, can't believe he is still around and kicking ass. I remember when he was well known way back in beta days for his ingenuity.

A literal GOD Tasteless!

That's exactly what I meant, WCS Challenger NA is indeed the most prestigious of tournaments.

You cannot partake in GSL and WCS Challenger in the same season. But she can be there at Kiev, meaning the WCS main event. Next season she can make the choice again between code S and challenger

There is no choice to make past Season 1/Spring, Blizzard scrapped the rule. She's already in Code S again along with Special, the only reason he tried this time is because he can still play Challenger for Summer.

Good job by Neeb, but in the end there wasn't really somebody able to challange him with Scarlett not playing.

I am happy for TLO, too.

But to be honest, it also shows one more how weak overall NA is. TLO barely made it to RO16 in the last european qualifiers / tournaments he played. I don't think any player besides Neeb (and Scarlett, if she had played in the Qualifiers) from the NA Top 8 could have made it into the EU Top 8. Maybe they wouldn't even be the favorite against Top16 EU Players.

The distribution of seeds on regions seems really unfair. EU is so much stronger than the rest. We should have a distribution like EU (10), NA (4), Rest (2).

Yes Region-Lock Europe away from the poor rest of the world so they can grow stronk

On a more serious note, doesn't matter too much since you can still go through the group phases in Kiev

Well Neeb, Scarlett, and Special could potentially be favored over any EU player other than Serral. They'd also all be capable of beating Serral sometimes. So I'd say NA is pretty top heavy. One great zerg, one great terran, and one great protoss, then mediocrity below them.

Yeah, there are like 2 good players from those regions: Has and Special. It's just a rough sketch but the current distribution seems way off to me with all kinds of mediocre players making it through, while strong EU players aren't.

It's region lock inside region lock. European players definitely have it easier with how how they had go4sc2 for years and university actually not costing money etc..

Well, I don't mean any irony here. It IS easier being a progamer in Europe, probably even easier than in Korea at this point (for up and comers), cutting slots from other regions further removes the possible ventures for the players in those.

Take into account that most of series happen in Europe that player from other regions have difficulty joining offline qualifier.

Also there are more than two good players in these region: At least Kelazhur, Cham, TIME and NICE are not worse than most of disqualified EU players except Heromarine and Reynor.

How does that make him a hypocrite? Is he the one creating the rules for GSL tournaments except this one? Or did you refer to a previous statement by the user that would contradict his opinion about this Circuit? Anyway, different tournaments are different and people are allowed to have different opinions on different things without being hypocrites.

Although I don't see how it is unfair just because the EU has more top players. They can play the bracket.

Well, Special is no longer NA (region within region-wise) but Latin America (who have their own qualifiers), so my argument stands ... in the end it is only Neeb and (sometimes, if she doesn't prefer to play in Korea) Scarlett. Not a lot of top players to battle for four qualification places

Depends on form and if they looked amazing in very recent games compared to the other guys. They could definitely be favored depending on the circumstances.

Maybe they wouldn't even be the favorite against Top16 EU Players.

Well Neeb, Scarlett, and Special could potentially be favored over any EU player other than Serral. They'd also all be capable of beating Serral sometimes. So I'd say NA is pretty top heavy. One great zerg, one great terran, and one great protoss, then mediocrity below them.

No way i d flat out favor Neeb Scarlett and Special over the likes of Showtime Uthermal and Reynor. Maybe they d come out even, but defenitly not favored.

Depends on form and if they looked amazing in very recent games compared to the other guys. They could definitely be favored depending on the circumstances.

I tend to think looking at the top few players from each region to not be very informative. Be interesting to see how the thought experiment goes if we take the 9th-16th players instead of the 1st-8th and compare the relative strength.

Also I think it can't be understated this is just the direct entry into WCS Spring. Players who have sponsors or the means to attend the LAN still have a chance in the actual event iirc.

Great work Neeb.

Also particularly excited for TLO, can't believe he is still around and kicking ass. I remember when he was well known way back in beta days for his ingenuity.

Other than Neeb's current pvp form. Neeb is a step above all players mentioned there. Second only to non-neeb opponent Serral.

They are definitely favored in my opinion. Especially since Neeb is by far the strongest player of that group and Showtime has fallen off a cliff recently.
