I *think* I understand your question...
Players who manage their army more efficiently will be able to overcome an enemy who is simply attack-moving a giant blob of troops. Flanking, focus firing, the positioning of melee and ranged troops, unit ranges, unit speeds all remain very important factors in SC2, just like they were in SC1.

Hi sir. Nice to still see your name around. You were before even my time :D.

Months ago I wrote an article about the gathering (economy) system in SC. Since SC2 seems to have a similar economy system or at least one with the same emphasis, maybe this could give the team some good ideas. http://www.sclegacy.com/showthread.php?p=58861#post58861I want SC2 to be as good as SC. Good luck. That's a really interesting article, thanks for posting it.

Yeah, but i was also thinking about the way armies keep their shape.
One example was in the gameplay video, I thought the zealots moved really close together, they didn't keep their shape well.. Maybe it was the tilted camera angle that made it seem that way?

So.. A question that hasn't been asked so far.. who else is on the team that has the same history/background as you do?

Ah, ok. Some of this might have been the illusion of 3D. Units taking up and maintaing space on the battlefield is obviously very important [blocking chokes, protecting soft targets like reavers or high templar are just a few examples of why.]
So, yes, armies will have tangible shapes :D.

Not sure how much I can really talk about this. I can say that the majority of team has been with Blizzard for many, many, many years, though. I know that only half answers your question, but it's all I got.

Pillars if you didnt think of yourself as a member of the team and only as a competetive gamer trying the game what is your opinion about it right now? Do you think the game has as much potential as Starcraft did? I know this might be hard to answer since you are part of making the game ^^

hi Pillars, nice to see you in blizzards team.
In the gameplay video its obvious that the way protoss production works got changed. Could u give a few details about it like if each gates has its own timer? Not sure if u can say anything about it but ill give it a go.

hihi Pillars
Please consider to change Protoss unit design. SC1 Protoss never use lasers. Now all of sudden, everyone use lasers!! >_<;; Thank you for consideration ^^v

Awesome to see so many old school players still keep up with the game (even though back when you were playing I didn't even own a copy of the game nor had I ever played it online)

Pillars is what Bo Jackson was to sports. Pillars was probably the most successful RTS player of all-time before he retired (besides them koreans like Midas and Skelton who played Kingdom under Fire and Warcraft 3 before they switched/left to Brood War).
From an interview I found 3 years ago (http://empires.heavengames.com/press/interviews/interviewpillars.shtml)
He has recently gone pro in his gaming career, and has a long line of games in his lineage, from Starcraft to Civilization, and in each one, he excels.
Pillars, along with Grrrr... and Maynard, were the original pioneers in competitive StarCraft.

EDIT: I sound like carlodajin in this post -.-

I'd like to point out to the younger public that Rob Pardo, now VP of game design, is a hell of an RTS player... and he's one of the guys that made Starcraft arguably the best PC game on the planet. Plus they've learned a lot of tricks over the course of the years. In the Brood War beta they quickly switched gears to watch games vs serious players to balance things more quickly. Now after the years of replays and VODs of the pros, and with ppl like Pillars directly on the team, it will be even easier to balance the game while keeping the design interesting.
While Warcraft 3 was cool, I do have to admit that something about it just didn't keep me glued to the game. Starcraft was and is a different animal. I picked it up and started playing it again a few months ago and found it's as fun as ever! My point? Warcraft 3 was a game that they could experiment with... perhaps mostly because of the RTS elements. Think of it as an experimental album by your favorite band... you still love it, but it may not be your favorite album. But if the band doesn't experiment at least once in a while, they can't learn or grow.
Now that they've learned something from their old albums, they are going back to their basics with Starcraft2. Blizzard seems to be very set, design-wise, to make the game capture as much of the competitive fun that the original has. My eyes are wide open for this game... I can't wait!

Yup, I'm sure a lot more old players have their eyes on Starcraft 2. Starcraft just leaves such an impact... it's much more than just a game. =]

Yeah ofc its stupid to ask technical questions about game features that havnt yet been revealed but that doesnt stop us from asking about his feelings about the game right? Not like blizzard can stop him from telling us things like that :o
