After three days of intense competition, two Terrans, (T)TY and (T)INnoVation steeled themselves for a Best of 7 to decide who would walk away as champion of GSL vs The World.

TY opened the series with a largely ineffectual marine drop. Meanwhile, he kept his mines at home in hopes of catching INnoVation’s banshees. It took two scans to kill the first and the second logged ten kills, prompting a move out from TY. TY had a higher medivac count as his marines and tanks met INnoVation’s, but the addition of a few hellions and cyclones turned the tide in INnoVation’s favor. TY exhibited some nifty medivac pickups on his tanks to prolong the battle, but no amount of micro could prevent him from going down 0-1.

It was INnoVation who applied the pressure in game two with a hellion and a pair of reapers while simultaneously teching into cloaked banshees. TY countered with marines, a tank and a raven, but was unable to stop the banshee from notching seven kills. Taking advantage of INnoVation’s tech route and faster third base, TY leapt into action, setting up a siege on INnoVation’s natural. He lost six workers to banshees in the process, but killed INnoVation’s natural base while taking a third. INnOVation retook his third and tried to do damage with a double drop, but it was quickly snuffed out as both players settled into a macro game. The first real action occured when INnoVation canceled TY’s high ground fifth base. TY was undeterred, resuming his expansion while INnoVation struggled to breach planetary fortresses. INnoVation eventually succeeded in killing TY’s fifth as well as thirteen SCV’s, but lost his fourth and fifth and a good portion of his marines. INnoVation replied by killing another fifth, this one a transplanted orbital. The pair traded blows, with INnoVation catching TY’s SCV’s transferings. TY darted back to defend, losing the fight, but saving his fourth. The pair traded heavy worker losses from there, 20 for TY and 28 for INnoVation. INnoVation returned to kill the base as TY made a final desperate push into INnOVation’s natural. He held a tenuous position for a time, but was soon cleaned up, giving INnoVation his second straight win.

Up 2-0, INnoVation kicked off game three with a proxy 2 rax reaper opening. TY opted for a reaper expand and managed to hold long enough to get his factory tech going while suffering minimal losses. INnoVation reloaded with cyclones, but TY matched him in that department as INnoVation’s second command center began back at home. Unable to inflict any damage beyond three SCV kills with a liberator, INnoVation backed off, with both players moving up to three bases and bio/tank. They each applied bits of pressure, but were unable to make a dent in their macroing opponents. In a moment of terrible timing, TY moved towards INnoVation’s third, leaving his undefended. INnOVation forced a lift with a group of marines, which prompted a desperate pick up. TY lost one medivac as he tried to fly into INnoVation’s main. The rest of his army was wiped out soon after. TY conceded, putting INnoVation one win away from the title.

Both players did a conservative opening on Acolyte. INnoVation went for the first move; a marine/mine drop that killed six workers, but had a slower third base behind it. TY jammed into INnoVation’s main with three cyclones and a raven, but didn’t get much done. Having held the attack, INnoVation flew across the maps with a tank/marine drop and two ravens. He killed four workers, but lost the whole drop as well as a raven on the retreat. TY paired dual cyclone pressure with a drop, killing six workers which evened the supply. TY had a faster fourth and both players postured mid map, unwilling to commit to a fight. INnoVation found himself with an army supply lead after catching medivacs trailing from TY’s army. Done dancing around TY’s inferior forces, INnoVation went for a doom drop that uprooted TY’s pocket expansion and killed a fair number of tanks rallying to the defense. TY replied with a doom drop of his own, but INnoVation did a far better job defending, losing only seven workers. Smelling blood in the water and up twenty supply, INnoVation barrelled into TY’s marineless tank line. This proved to be the final blow, giving INnoVation the 4-0 and the GSL vs The World championship.

In 2 of these games TY showed true foreigner form, perhaps influenced by the tournament's name

I feel bad for TY; he didn't seem to be having a good day. Even so, Inno is super solid in finals matches. So far for the 2017 season he's won 4:0 (Gyeonggi) 4:1 (SSL S1) 4:0 (VSL S2) and 4:0 (GSLvsWorld).

the list of INnoVation 4-0's victims is getting longer:

WCS Final: Inno 4 - 0 sOs
IEM Gyeonggi: Inno 4 - 0 Stats
VSL: Inno 4 - 0 Soo
GSL vs World: Inno 4 - 0 TY

So far he has been 35 - 13 in set throughout 10 premier finals (won 8/10). I don't think there is more impressive player in SC2.

Best game I've seen in years. I take back everything I said about Marine-Tank mirrors being dull, Game 2 was nearing Inno vs Taeja level. If only it lasted twice as long....

It was a really good game, but INnoVation vs Taeja was so so much better. They really can't be compared, especially because TY was fighting an uphill battle for most of it. Taeja vs Inno was an even fight for almost the entire game.

this was a pretty entertaining series considering it was a 4-0 sweep.

TY was fighting an uphill battle for most of it because INnoVation is a god among men. TY had a better economy (4 and even 5 base vs 3), better tech (liberators), and air control for significant portions of that game while Innovation had better upgrades (at the end, he was actually down an upgrade since TY had +2 vehicle while Inno only had +1).

Edgy

I mean if you almost fell asleep during that I have to assume you didn't make it through the next two games

If INnoVation wins 3 more premiers I think it's hard to argue that he's not the best Sc2 player ever. It's a shame he didn't play when there were 15 GSLs a year like Mvp.

TY had the better economy, the better tech/composition for most of the game, and he killed Innovation's natural orbital early on. Innovation's only consistent advantage was the upgrade lead until both had 3/3. They traded blows and the lead in the game several times and I'm pretty sure if this is enough to make it an 'uphill battle for most of it' for TY, we could construe the same thing for either TaeJa or Innovation if we try hard enough.

People just love to circlejerk both Mvp and taeja, nothing new to see here.

TY vs Inno game two was extremely tense with lots of back and forth action everywhere on the map. "almost falling asleep" ok i guess. I mean it was late for you right, so maybe that's the reason
