Discover beautiful coral reefs, advanced space stations, or wholly unique battlegrounds featuring circular expansion patterns in 2017 Season 1! We're bringing a number of new maps to StarCraft II next season, so we've put together this blog to share details about next year's first set of upcoming maps. While this blog initially only includes next season's 1v1 maps, we'll soon be adding details about our new team maps as well so don't worry!
We're looking forward to sharing all the new maps as soon as possible, but for now, let's take a look at what's coming for 1v1. These 1v1 maps will be added to the Custom Games section in the upcoming Patch 3.9. As always, the main goal here was to have strong variety in map types so that ladder play can be more diverse and fun.
1v1 :
Abyssal Reef LE is unique in that there are many narrower paths to reach different parts of the map. This hasn't been a common trait on the StarCraft II ladder, and we're excited to see how this type of map plays out. + Show Spoiler +
Paladino Terminal was chosen because it was one of the most solid maps from the last map contest, and it felt like something that should truly see play both on the ladder, and in WCS competitions. We believe this map will play out in a straight-forward manner, and we definitely wanted a map of this type represented on the ladder. + Show Spoiler +
Proxima Station LE is a map characterized by its multiple strategic objectives. It features an interesting backdoor attack-path initially blocked by destructible debris, as well as a strategically located high-yield expansion near the third base. These two factors should work well with the map's solid overall design to produce entertaining games for ladder and professional players alike. + Show Spoiler +
For the last new map slot, we were looking for a 4-player map that players differently than what players have previously been exposed to, but isn’t so different as to come off as too crazy or uncomfortable. Honorgrounds LE seemed to strike an excellent middle-ground on this, in that the map certainly feels different than other 4-player maps we've had, but in many of the right ways. Team Maps :
Team maps for 2017 are still in production. Nevertheless, a number of new maps will be joining us for the first season of the year and we look forward to sharing more news about this in the future! Check back here soon!

But does this mean 3 of the dream pool maps remain on ladder, or does it mean the other 3 maps aren't decided yet?

And if the Terran's opponent spawns on the first spawn clockwise from the Terran even holding a 3rd looks tough.

I would really take a moment, and congratulate Namrufus on making it to ladder, I know that it kinda drives a bit of wind out of one's sails that Paladino didn't made it to ladder by its own weight and scoring highly on a TLMC, but even so, props Nam!
Oh yeah, and props to Sidian, but at this point is like "Two extra maps to ladder, heh wherever"

Solid stuff! From what I remember, the author of Proxima station was a real powerhorse in bw maps. Hopefully his map will be as good as his other ones.
Oh, yea.. Sidian how many maps you got in the ladder already? 5? 6?

The new maps look pretty good, but are we going to play KSS and Frost all over again ? Or are some maps of the dreampool going to be reconducted ?

They mentionned those maps in a community feedback i believe, asking people what maps they wanted to see after dreampool

My guess is we'll see these 4, two new blizz maps (it's been a while, guys), and then 1 from this pool. Maybe Overgrowth, Echo or Habitation (since there are no rectangular symmetrical maps in these 4).

abyssal reef looks ok
paladino looks really good too. not sure about the vision blockers or tank locations.
proximal station looks meh, at least it is creative so it might be fun.
honorgrounds looks terrible imo.
I hope we get a protoss themed map from the last 3 to be used on ladder.

Abyssal looks like the easiest macro map to me, paladino cheese no1, and the other two pretty solid for macro too, honorground may be a bit annoying with some cliffs and vision. Like them overall

Maps with extremely difficult 3rd to take and many chokes are bad for protoss I guess.

LotV economy now means easy 4th and even easy 5h. They wanted to make you mine out faster to push you into action, now some maps rewert it by giving relativly easy strongholds which contain 5 bases.
But what ever.

all i see is easy spots for siege tanks on the low ground hitting naturals of zergs while getting attacked by liberators and mmm >.>

Still excited to play on these though. Abyssal looks sick!

And they wonder why protoss is underrepresented on ladder. 0/10 Disgusting maps (aesthetics aside), hope they keep at least 3 current maps. But whom am i deceiving. DK's goal is to keep people away from the game they want to play.

I'd rather play on an endless plain with one mineral field in the middle than the current mappool, so everything is a step up!

All i see is blizzard doing the same thing that has not worked for 6 years..+ Show Spoiler [wall of text inc] +map design so poor, so devoid of variations.. an attitude never failling to piss you off: "yeah you had shit* since the start and you are still here.. that must mean you want s hit!!""lets give you some more" i seem to remember that one possible definition of "insanity" is to do the same thing over and over again, thinking a different outcome will happen  Sorry, i'm sort of fed up with so much bad "client support" by actiblizzard picture Firecake asking for a sponsor's "support", lets say the sponsor is an sc2 geek: Firecake "yeah i can"t even prepare playing for next months map pool.. come to think of it .. can't even tell you if there will be a tournament" sorry 4 rant i have no ill will towards anyone, but in my "universe" when people are so bad at their job (job being make maps that hardcore players will get addicted to.. making maps that make current players get "new" people into sc2, making maps that produce viewership explosions...) .. they lose the job ..not that it insures progress but it certainly does showcase a will to progress. #progress is good *examples of sh it: - map pool rotation and patching (the way it is done/not done .. never clear, and ask hsc if blizzard likes them (for example) - not fixing clear miss balance of units for months (dont need examples do i?) - never showcasing community maps in their launcher/social media - making ghettos instead of forums ... list goes on and on...
i bought all three and i hoped for melee to be much more than what they settled on as "good".. but it will get worse before it gets better.. and this current attitude of theirs is just making the work harder to make sc2 great! once they have let it be!
