It seems like most wcs player just moved up 1 rank and got seeded accordingly(#1 wcs vs #8kr, 2#wcs vs #7kr etc.). For some reason Drogo, Elazer and Violet seem to be on the wrong spot though. Like e.g. Dark as #1kr should be playing vs #8 wcs(drogo) but instead he plays vs violet who is #6 now with the new seeding.
Seems a bit odd to seed everyone based on the wcs ranking except for 3 players.
You are correct. The seeding is not traditional all the way through.
A B C D #1 korea (dark) #1 wcs (neeb) #2 wcs (showt) #2 korea (solar) #4 wcs (snute) #4 korea (zest) #3 korea (byun) #3 wcs (nerchio) #5 korea (stats) #5 wcs (true) #7 korea (dear) #6 korea (ty) #6 wcs (violet) #8 korea (pati) #7 wcs (elazer) #8 wcs (pdrogo)
It seems they have seeded the groups by interleaving the Korea and WCS seeds so that the average seed of both groups stays the same, alternating korea wcs wcs korea, and wcs korea korea wcs.
Here are the seeds that those groups represent: + Show Spoiler +
1 #1 korea dark 2 #1 wcs neeb 3 #2 wcs showtime 4 #2 korea solar 5 #3 wcs nerchio 6 #3 korea byun 7 #4 korea zest 8 #4 wcs snute 9 #5 korea stats 10 #5 wcs true 11 #7 korea dear 12 #6 korea ty 13 #8 wcs ptitdrogo 14 #7 wcs elazer 15 #8 korea patience 16 #6 wcs violet
As you can see, it all goes well according to the formula until the 11th seed, which should be #6 wcs (violet) but instead is #7 korea (dear). Almost all of the seeds from 11 to 16 do not follow the pattern, which also causes #8 wcs (ptitdrogo) not to be in the same group as #1 korea as we would expect.
Here are the seeds corrected to follow the pattern set by seeds 1-10: + Show Spoiler +
1 #1 korea dark 2 #1 wcs neeb 3 #2 wcs showtime 4 #2 korea solar 5 #3 wcs nerchio 6 #3 korea byun 7 #4 korea zest 8 #4 wcs snute 9 #5 korea stats 10 #5 wcs true 11 #6 wcs violet 12 #6 korea ty 13 #7 wcs elazer 14 #7 korea dear 15 #8 korea patience 16 #8 wcs ptitdrogo
Lastly, below are the groups that these seeds would produce: + Show Spoiler +
A B C D #1 korea (dark) #1 wcs (neeb) #2 wcs (showt) #2 korea (solar) #4 wcs (snute) #4 korea (zest) #3 korea (byun) #3 wcs (nerchio) #5 korea (stats) #5 wcs (true) #6 wcs (violet)* #6 korea (ty) #8 wcs (pdrogo)* #8 korea (pati) #7 korea (dear) #7 wcs (elazer)*
*differs from the original groups
I can only assume there were some scheduling issues that prevented them from making the seeding completely traditional.

I hope you do realize he has to go back to Korea because of how S.Korean's policy works with things such as military service

Even if sc2 was the biggest esport there is, hell even if it was bigger than the NFL and NBA together, Polt would still have to go to the military.
So how does this news make you think "ded gaem"? I really can not understand.

It's funny how Snute leaving Neeb's group actually makes for a higher chance for Neeb to win his group. Also, I really didn't rate Nerchio's chances all that great in his original group, and I don't give him a much worse chance now.

Probably because losing a player like polt is going to kill interest even further. Lose an exciting Korean terran and replace them with a generic foreigner protoss. Not quite the same thing unfortunately. Also, not to mention polt is one of the most exciting players who was able to compete in wcs events outside of korea.
I haven't commented much on SC2 for a while nor watched this game lately, but man when I read this I can't help but feel disappointed in the whole situation. His name has basically stuck to me since I started watching pro-SC2 back in 2011, as one of the best Korean Terran players most known in the western world.
I'll never forget how he took the time to sign some stuff for me when I found him right after he did a sit down interview in WCS Toronto almost 3 years ago now. More importantly, so many crazy tournaments he's won or come close to, while making things exciting like MLG
I swear, I can't be the only one thinking to get mad at someone or something (i.e. the SK military) regarding all of this, but you just can't because that's just how the way things are in life.

While your point is correct, I find Drogo to be quite entertaining. Not through his personality or playstyle, however, it's unfortunate that he's only entertaining because he tilts and throws so much. So on the biggest stage of all against the toughest opposition allowed by this region-locking scheme he doesn't seem in a good place.
Then again he could do a Uthermal on it a win the whole thing. Either way he'll entertain.
Looks like the SK military finally cracked the whip. He must have put it off as much as he could.
Some players are good, others are great but then there are the Champions. Champions within the game and without. Polt was one of these champions. I don't believe we'll see another player of his calibre again within SC2. With him gone now, that must be one of the final player links to WoL severed? Are there any of the old guard left so to speak?
And with regards to hurting the game? Polt's departure most definitely will affect this. For me personally, he was the only player that made this region-locked abomination watchable. Hopefully, if he does ever come back, the state of the game will allow him to participate in all events like it used to.

So because Hydra can't attend because of his long ago planned wedding and Polt because of mandatory military service means this Blizzcon "seems secondary" to them? Sure.

Agreed. Polt forfeited his blizzcon spot because the tournament isn't important to him.
I'm 90% positive that's not why he isn't going to blizzcon. It sounds like he had no choice and the Korean military is forcing him to do it now (he's 28).
I'm 100% positive that Charoisaur is 100% positive
I am now 100% positive that I was right and had nothing to do with Blizzcon not being important to him . Sucks Korea couldn't have waited another 2 months though.

as much as i'd hate to admit it, it seems to be that way... i use to love this game but now the player base and skills it takes to play is just not as rewarding (on a casual player basis, "rewarding"). just look at the stream views on twitch, its gone from 40k-50k to 20k-30k to 8k-15k, now its essentially -5k unless there's a tournament going on. i honestly blame blizzard for trying to micro manage the tournament and the tournament holders. i dont understand why they even tried to in the first place... like blizz claims at every blizzcon, "We're a game development company", when it comes to the poor organization of the events, basically implying: therefore, don't blame us for the congested processes in the convention that do not run smoothly even though we have the technology and resources to make everything almost as perfect *QQ*
