My first memory of this guy was in early 2011 (I think) when did some type of 3CC opening on metalopolis. But rather than building an Orbital Command he opted for a quick Planetary Fortress at his 3rd while being on less than 40 workers....

You might think that build doesn't make sense, and your right, it didn't and he lost the game. Since then I always viewed him as a guy who had no idea what he was doing, and his 1/1/1 style didn't want me to give him more credit. However, after the release of HOTS he has looked a lot more solid.

And that's kinda shame because I like the idea that you can distuinish players between being intelligent (like MVP was - first guy who actually understood how you should design build orders - everyone else just did random shit) and players who doesn't use their brain while playing (most notably MKP). Different types of players makes it more interesting to follow the scene.

Damnit Heart, can't you just kinda sorta unofficially fade out of conscience like other pros? That way I wouldn't have to live with all them horrible Heart puns. Wish you luck.

While I sort of expected it after Axiom disbanded and no news of a new team for him, it still saddens me, he gave us quite a few magical games in HotS, I wish him the best of luck in the future.

That's a bit harsh! MKP uses his brain when he plays, he's just... stubborn sometimes.

The first pro player I ever got an autograph from. Heart always seemed like an optimistic sort who truly enjoyed the time he spent playing professionally. My hope is that his name isn't lost in the shuffle of esports history.

This leaves Ryung as the last professional to carry the torch of Axiom. Fitting, in a way, as he was the star of the team at its peak.

Have you watched MKP play? Or read interviews with him? He is an intuition based player. He has made comments like "I don't need to scout, because I can "feel" what is right to do". He is not the guy who makes deep analysis based on timings and figures out optimal decisions in various scenarios. He is the guy who applies builds that works on the ladder to tournaments without understanding under which conditions the build works.

And when someone rushes a planetary when you could just mine from the natural, it's obvious that the guy about how you actually design builds.

But this is exactly what made the scene interesting to follow in the first year of 2011. For me they were never faceless koreans, but players with very differnet weakness's and strenghts, and it was fun to watch their development.

Always feel a little bit sad when a great gamer like him officially retires. I guess it's partially nostalgia, but he'll be missed, that's for sure.

Until now, we don't know more about the news whether he studies in Qingdao, Mainland China now.
There are no evidence his long-time staying in China except (Wiki)IEM Season X - Shenzhen though he denied the news once in twitch.

Never liked Heart in WoL, like most other people here, because he was the pinnacle of cheesy tier-2 Korean Terran. BUT HEAR ME OUT.

He was always really fucking cool when it came to personal interaction, and he became less cheesy later on in his career (thank you Axiom). So, although I'm surprised to say it, I'm sorry to see you go, Heart, and good luck in wherever you choose to go next.
