Hello everyone! Meru here with TeamLiquid! Today we have our two Chinese players in the WCS RO32. As newcomers to the scene, we really don’t know much about them yet, so let’s meet Mystery and iAsonu. The Mystery interview has been translated and transcribed below. It’s interesting to note that iAsonu answered everything in English perfectly, and our conversation has been scribed below. Enjoy!
Mystery
Meru: Hi Mystery, tell us a little about yourself!
Mystery: Hi I’m Mystery. I'm from ShanDong, China and almost 20, I’m a protoss player and I just joined team THpj.
Meru: Mystery, first of all, why did you choose the name Mystery?
Mystery: Well, it’s actually not my ID… NA couldn’t understand Ping-Ying for my real ID, so it ended as Mystery.
Meru: Oh wow, that’s really interesting! So, this is your first time in the RO32 for WCS, playing on such a big stage. Are you nervous? How are you feeling?
Mystery: I’m really jetlagged actually so I did not do the best that I could. My play wasn't as good as it was in China. I’ll try harder next time.
Meru: So you’re saying that if there’s no jetlag, you could of done much better!
Mystery: Yeah I think so, I think I would of played more normal
Meru: Normal?
Mystery: My reaction time was very slow today. For example, the enemy was attacking me, but my reaction to each attack took longer than usual. My control wasn't very precise either. I’m a little sleepy
Meru: How did you start StarCraft II? How and when did you get into this game, why did you pick this?
Mystery: I’ve always loved Blizzard games and when I saw StarCraft II came ads for it, it looked super cool. So I started playing it and thought it was really fun. I was always improving so I kept on playing. If I hadn't kept improving, I'm not sure I would have played as much.
Meru: How long have you been playing?
Mystery: About 2-3 years
Meru: What does your training schedule look like?
Mystery: I’m still in school so I don’t really practice or train at all during school days. I practice on the weekends and on holidays, but that’s about it. I can’t really practice at school because the internet is not good enough.
Meru: Why did you choose Protoss?
Mystery: In the trailer commercial ads Protoss looked the coolest.
Meru: A lot of the Korean pros practice all day long like a job. Do you think you would improve a lot if you had an opportunity like this?
Mystery: I think that’s definitely possible. I just joined team THpj, and starting this Aug/Sept I’ll be practicing full time. I’m looking forward to my improvements!
Meru: A lot Korean pros like Polt and violet actually got athlete visa to live and play in the states. Do you think you’ll ever do that?
Mystery: I don’t think I’m good enough for that yet, I’m not even the best in China yet!
Meru: Who do you think is the best in China then?
Mystery: iAsonu here! (laughs)
Meru: Lastly we have a question… We noticed that you don’t really use control groups and hotkeys… Why is that?
Mystery: Well.. When I first started playing the game, I didn’t know hotkeys and control groups existed. I just kinda got used to it and just stuck with it. I started using some recently, like the 4’s and 5’s, the keys towards the end of the keyboard… I mean you saw my Zealot in the game, it was suppose to hold position but it moved like 3 times.
Meru: What are you plans for the future?
Mystery: I'm going to play for a couple years as a pro and practice hard. I hope to have some great results.
Meru: Haha. Well that's unfortunate. We wish you the best of luck in the future, and thank you very much for your time today!
iAsonu
Meru: Hi iAsonu, so how are you?
iAsonu: I'm fine, thank you.
Meru: Why did you choose your ID?
iAsonu: I just typed in random letters. It doesn't mean anything.
Meru: So you're playing tomorrow. Are you nervous? How are you feeling?
iAsonu: Not at all. I'm not nervous at all, because I don't care about the results, I just want to have exciting and fun games.
Meru: Oooo. Now that you mentioned exciting games, are you saying that you prepared something entertaining for us?
iAsonu: I think so. I prepared something special strategy that I don't think the foreign scene has seen much of yet.
Meru: That sounds great! We're looking forward to it! So now, how long have you been playing starcraft and what made you start?
iAsonu: Since... 2012. My college roommate actually told me about this really fun game and told me to play it. He actually quit and I just kept on playing and liked it.
Meru: Why did you choose zerg?
iAsonu: I thought it was very cool that you have a large army to crush your enemy, I like that feeling.
Meru: That's awesome! How do you practice? what does your day look like?
iAsonu: Back to school I just played in my spare time, then I go to iG team house for 8 months, I practiced every day, like more than 10 hours a day, so I made great progress. Now I went back to school, so I'm not playing as much.
Meru: Just from talking to you, your English is great! How did you learn it so well?
iAsonu: I just studied it in school that's all. I'm not that good (laughs). I also like to watch American TV, so I learned from watching shows.
Meru: What's your favorite show?
iAsonu: Game of thrones! (laughs)
Meru: GoT.... Of course! you have great taste man. Now, going back to the scene a little bit. How do you feel about the Chinese SC2 scene? do you think it's growing, how is it doing?
iAsonu: Mmm... Because of the popularity of League of Legends, Starcraft II is not very popular in China. I hope it will be better.
Meru: Just comparing numbers from last season to this, there are actually more Chinese players this time than last?
iAsonu: Yea i think we are growing slowly.
Meru: Great! Now lastly, what are your plans for the future? Any words for the audience?
iAsonu: For the future I think I'll play 1-2 more years because I have to get a job and go to work, I'm graduating in 1 year. So, I'll do my best next year! i hope everyone will enjoy it
Meru: I'm sure everyone will cheer for you. Thank you so much for your time!
