From his twitlonger.
TL;DR Version: - Just gonna back away from SC2 until LoTV comes out since there is no competitive ladder and there are some balance issues, gonna keep streaming hearthstone and DoTA 2.
Hello guys and grills, just wanted to let you know that i'll be taking a break from SC2 for now.
This doesn't mean I am retiring, nor does it mean that ROOT is shifting its focus away from the game, I've been playing and streaming the game almost non-stop since it came out, and I really do love it.
What I've been up to:
I know I haven't been streaming too much lately. I've been really busy with ROOT management stuff, we got a few more sponsors coming up soon which I'm thrilled about, I've also been playing DOTA and HearthStone off-stream mostly, I enjoy both of those games and I like to stay "up to date" with their Meta and what goes on, not only because I enjoy them very much but also because ROOT Gaming has squads in HearthStone and Dota, so I also enjoy watching it and cheering for my teammates.
Why take a break now?:
I feel like right now is a good time for a break from competitive StarCraft for me, I lost WCS in Challenger and that means that there are little to no tournaments/events to prepare or improve for me personally. Also playing Heart of the Swarm isn't as fun for me anymore, especially after playing LOTV which I think is a more fun and exciting game. It feels almost pointless to play Heart of the Swarm, the viewership isn't great as I'm sure you're all aware of and there's nothing for me to prepare for like I said before
Why not just stream LOTV?
As fun as LOTV is, it has a lot of issues - as any game during the beta period would. There's still a lot of things that need changing. Balance is poor at the moment and tbh I wish blizzard developers opened more channels to communicate with players and community members before making changes. I do understand they take and listen to feedback, but there are things that could be handled better, there's plenty of ideas from people who want LOTV to be the best game possible and if some of these suggestions are not feasible for whatever reason, it would still be nice to hear reasoning from Blizzard representatives.
I am financially and emotionally invested in StarCraft, so I want the game to be the best it can be and help it grow as much as possible. Don't get me wrong, I don't think the game is bad, I think it's miles better than HOTS already and HOTS is one of the greatest games ever created, but playing a beta and trying to be competitive in it just doesn't feel right - there is no ladder yet, for example - something that I feel would help motivate me and my competitive spirit. Right now despite the top 20% getting beta invites the player quality on average is very low - and without a ranking system it's hard to feel good or bad about a victory to me, it just feels empty.
So at least until ladder is implemented and the game has been tweaked/balanced a bit more - i'll be taking a step back.
What will I be doing?
I'm not really going anywhere, I'll be playing and streaming Dota2, HearthStone and SC2. I just won't be playing tons of hours of sc2, or necessarily every day, even. Of course I have other duties as well with ROOT but I've always had those. This should be a nice break for me and I hope to come out of it "revitalized". I'll still be watching tournaments reading reddit and supporting sc2 through the team, so this isn't a good bye, just an update.
To my subscribers: I really appreciate your support, although I'm not sure if this will be a 1, 2 or more month "break" I understand that you subscribe to my stream to watch StarCraft - and I greatly appreciate your support, but I will of course understand if you can't continue to support me while I am not actively playing StarCraft every day.

Well catzie will be backish no worries!

Good to hear that this "break" is only very temporary Was worried for a moment!

Makes sense.
Good luck Catz

I don't blame him. Taking a break, even for just a week or so can really revitalize the game for you.
|
Yep I'll echo the above sentiments. It seems a logical and wise choice. We'll see him again either when it comes out or perhaps a bit before if they do add a competitive ladder during the beta stage of LotV.
|
I feel the same about the lack of a ranked ladder, I'd like to play lotv more than hots at the moment, but without any sort of competion it's no fun

Except most people never come back once they take a "break". I guess that he doesn't find sc2 as fun to play as hearthstone, mobas,cs:go, etc. anymore, like many other sc2 personalities/casters anyway.

HotS is way more fun than LotV at the moment imho. Especially now since PvZs are once again action packed.
|
We need you Catz more than ever, don't go. Stay and keep playing!

I think a lot more people are taking this stance lately, especially the streamers. The viewer count is really really down lately for players, and if it's not fun to stream then there isn't a real point to make yourself play. It's all about making sure it's enjoyable if you want it to last.
Hopefully they do start getting on LotV balance, it's really quite bad right now as CatZ says.
|
|
Hopefully he can get more builds after the break.
|
Honestly, this transition period between HotS and LotV is probably the best time to take a break, and I wouldn't be surprised if we see more pros take "breaks" as they drop out of WCS. Hopefully he will be back better than ever once LotV is out :D ROOT4ROOT

Not sure why this is news-worthy.

Not sure why you are a posting.

Makes sense. Catz isn't primarily a progamer, he's a businessman and streamer in the esports industry. If he gets burned out with the grind, it's good for him to lay back, have some fun for a while, maybe get Nomo and Ostkaka invited to some tournaments, and support his boys in WCS and the TI5 qualifiers.

I totally agree, if this means that the quality of ROOT goes up as a whole, it's a good move.

says lotv has balance issues,
then plays hearthstone lol

We're all dissatisfied with hots. Now that we've tasted something else, we don't want to go back. I only watch sc2 to see if Naniwa or State or Kane are doing well. Sometimes Catz, depending on tourney :D
Serious oversaturation lately too. Do we really need to stream every qualifier so we have 24/7 events? Couldn't we combine a few events into larger ones with larger stakes, or make a league as per QXC's blog?

I'm honestly okay with there being content almost 24/7. If you don't watch basetrade then you've basically got only the premier tournaments to watch anyways.

He should spend his time off working on his team Root in general needs to produce more content as a squad. They seem to have been fading this past 18 months and I am unsure if this is because of the lack of hours CatZ puts into his team or not.

CatZ will be back, he is a staple in the NA scene, don't stay gone too long k catz ? :D

He will come back.
Stronger. Better. He will start a revolution.
Best of luck CatZ see you around!

Have a nice break.
All the people saying they don't like HOTS balance, don't kid yourselves. All these people will quit LOTV within 1 week. It's not the balance; it's you.

he plays hearthstone forfun why so rustled?

Totally don't blame him for this, his reasoning is very sound. For CatZ it makes a lot more sense to keep up with Dota and Hearthstone as well, all the best to him, and I hope we see him again soon.
|
I think this is just one of CatZ publicity stunts, he will be streaming SC2 again at the beginning of next week. :-p

CatZ eliminated me from both qualifiers of Copa América. Now I have a chance!
In all seriousness, it sucks a player takes a break because there is simply nothing else to do in NA until next WCS season.

Sounds reasonable to me. LotV needs some time and testing to get it to a higher level than WoL and HotS were at.
|
I'm getting my first full weekend of lotv this weekend. Getting creamed by Catz would have been such an honor.
Good for him. Looking forward to seeing him play void down the road.
|
gl Paulo. Please keep streaming !

Seems strange to me that CatZ always brings up balance throughout the years, but hes never been good enough for Balance to even play much of a part in his games. His mechanics have been letting him down since 2010.
Balance is always secondary to skill.

I really believe that if Catz wanted to, he could move to Seoul and gain employment being a Zerg coach for one of the teams there...He has mad respect from all the Zergs in Korea as a massive innovator.

This is disappointing, I always felt there was a lack for zerg streamers and CatZ was one of the only reliable ones.

He said he would be still streaming though. Even SC2. Just not as much.

Give me something more concrete and I might be inclined to agree with you. As it stands, I have to disagree.

C4TZ <3 I don't watch a lot of streams with so many tourneys now-a-days, but his was always a chill to unwind and have some fun; He deserves a good break and vacation, I hope he comes back !!!!!

I wish Blizzard communicated with catz and other professional players as well as catz does with his fan base.
|
You are my easily favorite streamer/sc2 player. You deserve time off if you want it. Enjoy your break.
|
You're the man Catz, enjoy your time off.

ty all for your kind words and encouragement <3
