Week 2: Topsy Turvy

By: Waxangel

Round 3 started off with a number of surprising results. Round 2 champions Jin Air headed straight to last place a 0-2 record, while runner up team MVP joined them near the bottom of the table. Meanwhile, Team Prime hopped to tie-second place with a 1-0 record, their best position of the entire season. This is all subject to change greatly in week two, but it sure makes for a rather amusing league table for the time being.

Lineup Notes

  • (Z)Leenock is making his debut for Prime, deployed in both of their matches this week. Also, (T)SalvatioN appears to have earned head coach Gerrard's trust for now, also earning two starts.

  • More Proleague debuts! Newly signed MVP Terran (T)aLive will be in action this week. aLive finished his previous season of Proleague with a 6-7 record for EG-TL, but he'll need to do better this season if he's to compete with Keen and Dream.

  • (Z)Action is making his second consecutive appearance for KT Rolster. It seems like KT Rolster remembered that the season-end playoffs are going to be best of seven, and they need more than just a four man rotation.

  • SK Telecom are giving (Z)Dark a chance to play. Dark looked good in Code A, qualifying for his second consecutive Code S. If he can start performing well in Proleague as well, then SKT's already ridiculous roster will receive an almost unnecessary boost.

  • As nostalgia freaks, (T)MarineKing vs. (P)PartinG sticks out as our must watch match of the week. At one point in time, it was a match-up that slightly favored MarineKing. It will be fun to see how it plays out in the present.

Round 2 Fantasy Proleague Awards

by lichter

It's never too late to laud and mock people for their performance in Fantasy Proleague. We present our slightly belated awards for the best and worst Fantasy Proleague managers of Round 2.

The New York Knicks Award For The Worst Teams Trying to Be Good

#1: Sorkarn: This round's #1 loser will deeply regret buying into the hype that was Solar. Naming him captain ahead of a lot of Proleague staples could have panned out had he performed just like last round, but Solar earned a pitiful 2 points in Round 2. This guy is probably also a StarTale fan as indicated by his trust in Life, Curious and Panic, and their Proleague contributions are about as dead as the team itself. Having Creator, Super and MKP in his anti didn't help at all as they scored twice as many points as his entire team (sans team pick). Lesson learned, don't trust in StarTale, don't anti Creator.

#2: MonsieurKay: With a net score of -17 and an anti team consisting of DRG, Super, and Creator, MonsieurKay earns the distinction of having one of the most painful anti teams of the whole round. His Protoss heavy team of PartinG, HerO, Sora and MyuNgSiK didn't pan out either as none of his team was able to score in double figures. That's a pitiful tally when 24 players scored 10 or more points this round, and he didn't pick a single one of them.

#3: zargle: To be honest, I'm not even sure if this is a serious team. He has an anti team of herO, DRG and Creator, who scored 71 points between them for the worst anti team of the round. Seriously, how does that even work? His anti team scored more than 2500 serious teams! Come on, you gotta be kidding. Maybe you just wanted a serious looking team to trick me into putting you in this article. Well, gratz, you made it and you're now sorta famous, I guess.

The Air Force Ace Award For The Worst One Team FPL

Redderthanblue (Prime): Well I'm sure everyone saw this coming. Even with Creator on deck, this all Prime team scored a measly 49 points. I'm not sure if most people will consider the round a success for Prime as they ALMOST didn't finish in last place, but at least they have Creator right? The only thing crazier than an all Prime team is those damn Prime pants.

These damn pants

The Monk-Doesn't-Even-Watch-StarCraft Award For Worst TeamLiquid Staff Team

DarkLordOlli: Seriously Olli? You're a staffed writer! You're embarrassing us with your FPL team! Sure you didn't get a negative score, but this is a disgrace. How are people supposed to believe your predictions now? Maybe you picked the wrong HerO on your team, a mistake you'll hopefully fix next round. Or maybe you should pick more Protoss, right? Yes, I am enjoying this.

The LOL What A Successful Tryhard Award For Most Trades

JayJoamelo - 12 trades, +12 points: A lot of people consider trading a good way to maximize your points, as it allows you to pick players with more lineup appearances each week. However, among the Top 10 traders, only 2 people ended up with a net positive score. Yes, lineup appearances do matter, but actually picking people who can win matters more, as trade taxes hurt more than a lot of people consider. Jay was by far the most successful player who used the maximum number of trades, and it wasn't even close.

The LOL What a Lousy Tryhard Award For Most Trades

Yorkie - 12 trades, -58 points: Oh God, that was brutal. I can just imagine you going through Aligulac and TLPD looking at winrates, trends, and map balance trying to figure out the best trades possible, only for it to become this train wreck. How is this even possible? You traded herO away for Trap, then put him on your anti-team while removing Creator, added Super to your anti, and then swapped Super back for Creator? Make up your damn mind son!

Do You Even Know What You're Doing? Award for Worst Trader

Yorkie - 12 trades, -58 points: Yes, you won two awards this round. Congratulations! You are the first double winner user for FPL End of the Round Awards! Unfortunately, they are awards for being really bad at this despite doing the most amount of work. You post a lot in LR threads so I'm pretty sure you watch a lot of SC2, but it looks like you're going to have to put in some overtime. Or maybe you should just think about this less.

Maybe You Should Play Stocks In Your Free Time Instead, You Bum Award

johnnyapplec - 6 trades, +54 points: With an astounding gain of 9 points per trade, johnnyapplec is either the luckiest man alive or the man who should replace Olli on staff because of his good predictions. The only thing he got wrong this round was trading herO for TY in week 3, but everything else worked out for him. His most successful trade was switching Life for herO which gained him +21. His genius in trading allowed him to finish 6th overall in Round 2.

It Pays To Be Lazy Award For Best Team Without Trading

Gunesh - 0 trades, 111 points: The only thing this guy got wrong was picking Prime, but it was likely a calculated sacrifice in order to have such an impressive team in herO, Bbyong, Maru, DRG, Trap and Rogue. All 6 players scored in double figures, topped by herO's 28. His worst player was Rogue with 15, which is better than most team's best player! This guy basically coasted through the round, and just sat back and watched the points roll in.

Ya'll Suck Award For Best/Worst Anti Team

Solar, Trend, eMotion: After a surprising Round 1, Samsung basically dominated the best/worst anti-team list led by former breakout star Solar, who suffered what was possibly one of the worst rounds we've ever seen in going 0-6. Yes, he didn't win a single game. The other two players didn't even make a single lineup appearance. Samsung's team points was able to overvalue both Trend and eMotion, so look out next round for overvalued benchwarmers on over-performing teams.

I'm a 7? TL writers so noobie

Most Valuable Player

herO, 28 points: Despite CJ's struggles in Round 1, herO still performed admirably for his team as their single ray of light. Fortunately for critics of Coach Park, herO continued his hot streak in FPL while the rest of CJ improved dramatically. herO was also the only player in Round 2 to win more than 1 Ace Match, which helped him get the most wins in the round.

The King of the Bargain Bin Award for Best Value

Bbyong, 24 points for 2 cost: Sure, I tend to hate on Bbyong a lot, but his penchant for weird, dumb games is just the kind of talent that every team needs. Call it the HuK Ray, the Lousy Laser, or the Bbyong Beam, but as long as it's effective it shouldn't matter how the points are earned. After an abysmal Round 1 which earned him a value of 2, he turned things around with 5 straight wins after an initial loss. His 24 points for just 2 cost means that he was the most efficient pick in the entire Fantasy Proleague.

Superbbyong the Bbyongjwa

The Dead Weight Award for Least Valuable Player

Solar, 2 points for 7 cost: I guess it was too soon to call an end to RorO's place as Samsung's Zerg ace, as Solar scored 2 points this round due to his 0-6 record. Just to emphasize how terrible that is, he scored just as many points as ByuN, Barbie, and a bunch of other 0s. He scored worse than 21 players who didn't register a single line up appearance. His losing streak is the worst in the league so far this season. So much for your hype train, bud.

RorO Award for Worst Anti-Pick that Shouldn't Be RorO If You Guys Only Listened:

Super, on 542 anti teams: Wow! Not RorO! I guess people finally learned their lesson last round. However, Super took up RorO's mantle in Round 2 and punished 541 users for 19 points. You have to wonder just how bad we all are at this when the top 4 players selected on antis were Super, Hydra, sOs, and Creator. Just so you know, RorO only appeared on 109 antis while scoring less than any of the players I mentioned. Sheesh.

The Is This The Real Life? Award For Unexpected Turnaround

Fantasy: Round 1 was not kind for FanTaSy. He made a single line up appearance, a loss, and while BravO even played (and won) before him. A lot of people thought that this could be the end of FanTaSy, and it wasn't a far fetched notion. Surprisingly, he's turned it around this round to avoid having an award named after him. His 13 points is just one behind team leader Rain, and his record of 3-3 with an Ace loss shows that T1 still believe in the former OSL winner.

The face of not sucking anymore

Let's All Get On the Hype Train Award for Most Bought Player

Rain, bought by 194 users: Uhm. Why? I'm not exactly sure. Rain performed okay, earning 14 points, but he's never really been affordable. Starting off at a 7 didn't help, as most users most likely had to wait for him to devalue enough to be worth it. SKT T1 has been a tough team to pick from due to the presence of 4, maybe 5 legitimate ace players, and it's not going to get easier as their players continue to confuse us. On the one hand they seem like they'd easily be worth 7s or 8s, but few of SKT T1's players have truly performed up to their value. And yet we can't give them anything lower. Ugh.

Let's Get The Hell Off This Train Award for Most Sold Player

Life, sold by 187 users: When IM snapped up the scraps of StarTale at the start of Round 2, many an armchair analyst salivated at the prospects of adding Life and Curious to an already deep IM roster. That hasn't exactly panned out though as Life has only made 2 lineup appearances so far. Giving him a 5 was perhaps a bit to overzealously, but people still picked him up believing that the GSTL Ace was bound to show up. That dream sank quick as he was sold almost 40 more times than the next player.

The ByuN Award For Most Mysteriously Disappeared Terran of the Round

ByuN: Yep, ByuN is still missing.
