It also takes away the glamour for any foreigners who DO make the next round, because everyone will be like "well it wasn't that hard". If, for example, a foreigner came out of a group that also had MMA, MC and ForGG in it, they'd make a massive name for themself off that result and it'd be super interesting (see Sjow V Life).

If the system is transparently rules-based, there can be no accusations of favoritism or conspiracy (which are possible now - who was protected? who wasn't?). It also gives the tournament organizers a much easier defense of the bracket and no second guessing. This still allows enough randomness to get some very interesting matchups early in the tournament. Notably, the Koreans are all within the top half, so no all-korean groups, and no real groups of death.

The new "lock" isnt worth jack as we see and was just to appease the masses. Once Season1 is over and we again have only koreans winning the backlash will come. Im barely interested anymore and might not watch at all ... so long and thx for all the fish

If VortiX for example tells us that he usually has long days in the university during the week and would prefer to play on a Saturday we will try to arrange that. If Grubby or HasuObs have commitments to other tournaments (ESGN or EPS for example) we will try to plan their groups around that. If both TargA and Snute want to attend a Norwegian tournament during the first week of WCS they shouldn't be forced to choose between playing WCS or that national tournament. 2. It means that we re-roll the random draw if there are two players from the same nationality, two players from the same team or three players with the same race (unless unavoidable). 3. It means that we are using a seeding (this time: top 8 from 2013 season 3 = pool #1, top 8 players based on recent results/last WCS ranking = pool #2, 16 remaining players randomly = pool #3). The process is basically: Make sure #2 & #3 are accounted for, then check if a player can (schedule-wise) play in the group that is currently being drawn or has to be put in the next best group. I understand the advantages of a group draw show and we will definitely consider it for the future for its entertainment value. But the downside to it is that groups might have to get rescheduled or shuffled around because of schedule conflict, time constraints etc. That is one of the reasons why WCS America's group order was often screwed up last year ("Group H before Group A"-kind of stuff) and WCS Europe was always able to announce all groups plus their respective dates without making any further adjustment or changes.

Seems reasonable! I disagree with rule 2, but I'd say it's subjective. For the future I think rules like this should be mentioned together with the announcement or be available on the WCS page. Im barely interested anymore and might not watch at all ... so long and thx for all the fish Actually, the new soft region lock seems to have 'worked' in EU in the sense that a few Koreans quickly got together 200 wins on the EU ladder, which I doubt they would have done without this rule. I think it is also worth mentioning that there were 3 qualifiers for the WCS without Koreans competing from Korea (Jjakji is now living EU) and in the 4th, EU held against all Korean invaders, which was a bit of a surprise to me at least. So now we have 8 Koreans spread over 8 groups and only one of them is a newcomer. At the same time, Daisy dropped out of challenger, so the net total of Koreans in WCS EU remains the same. I don't really think many of them will get knocked out of the first group stage the way it has been set up. If all Koreans go through to the next group stage and if they place 2 Koreans in each group at that point we might have a total anticlimax coming up with 8 Koreans in the quarterfinals. Should that happen, I'll be joining you in expressing my gratitude for all all gill-bearing aquatic craniate animals that lack limbs with digits, and wait for the next qualifier to start. For the distribution I agree with most of the criteria set, though I disagree that Koreans can't meet given that there are so many of them. I also disagree with the rule that members of the same team cannot meet as I don't really see how this is improving the competition.
