"It's confirmed that Jangbi has not retired yet. After he fortified Code S, there was a rumor about his retirement, and since he didn't deny, he was known to have retired. However, to Fomos's question for the confirmation, Kespa responded that Jangbi actually hasn't followed the retirement process. Thus, he can come back to play if he wants."
"... he cannot play the first round of the proleague even if he comes back..."
"... Jangbi says "At least right now, I am only considering about fulfilling the military army", but he did not deny of all possibility of coming back to the scene."
Some rumors I heard from Korean community (some from Jangbi's afreeca stream) - Jangbi wasn't to retire, but just considering some rest, but some newspaper writers released his retirement.
- Samsung Khan cut off all transfer offer for him (including from some foreign teams) somehow.
- He neither lost confident nor interest for starcraft 2 when he reitred.
- He cannot move to another Kespa team because Samsung will not release him and some Kespa rules.
- Samsung took most of his prize moneys, and returned only a part of them, even though they promised to return them all.
- January and Samsung Khan preferred Stork over Jangbi, and his salary was lower compared to other top protoss players.
- Jangbi also kept practicing starcraft 2, even after his retirement, including helping other gamers' practice
Wow didn't know that kespa players needed to redo a procedure if he wanted to go back to a kespa team. Is it the same for eSF teams or is this procedure only for kespa teams? I hope JangBi comes back to the scene, he was becomming really good before he stoped playing, and sa;sung really needs all the help they khan if they want to do well in proleague!
If Jangbi were to join a foreign team... god I would be happy. I would be SO HAPPY. One of my absolute favorites. Seeing him play around the world like Jaedong is right now, with how good Jangbi promised to be... maaaaaaan.
I highly doubt he will play SC2 because whenever people asked him to play it on stream he always made excuses like "i dont have it on this computer", "i dont think you can play it in windows mode".
This is very interesting and maybe it'll shut some of the people going ""We have proof, all BW stars actually hate SC2!" up. I wonder what'll happen in the end.

Interesting, though given the fact how heavily he has been playing and streaming BW I kinda question how much star 2 he has been playing. However, I remember in an interview he did with Khaldor after getting into code a he sad that he had been playing star 2 as a hobby on the side while kespa was still playing brood war so you never know.
Still very interesting, let's see what will come of this.

this is what is essentially wrong with the Korean scene.
Though the second one really confuses me. In the Jaedong documentary it was stated that Jaedong gave his earnings to his father, where as here it states that the team keeps the prize money. I figured this would be equal within all kespa teams but maybe each has its own policy?
- Samsung took most of his prize moneys, and returned only a part of them, even though they promised to return them all.
wait .. is this even allowed ? why can't he take the money its his hardwork after all .. does this apply to all of BW players in the past ? like flash and others
Will Kespa attempt to keep him from playing in the SSL because he hasn't retired? That would be really unfortunate. He's one of the players I'm really looking forward to see play.
I'm pretty sure Jangbi didn't say Samsung only returned a part of the money. Didn't he say that Samsung only added a small interest on top of the original money he gave? So what I heard was he got {original money+a very small interest}, which was what disappointed him a lot, since he expected more interest.

Dude.. sounds like a dream.
Edit: I'll only accept this if he doesn't want to give us more BW content ^_^
With Jangbi playing in the SSL I don't think he will come back to SC2 as a pro and would rather play BW till his Military Service since you can't be a Kespa pro and play in a Amuteur Tournament according to a kespa rule I can't remember it stated this.

But he can join a foreign team. Also there was SSL player coming back to play in GSL before, killer actually tried to qualify for GSL.

I must of misread something on that but I did remember Killer tried to but he didn't make it in the GSL but he had a offical retirement I think compared to Jangbi. Yes he can join a Foreign team but it doesn't look like he going for it as he been streaming a lot more BW then SC2. We will see when the time comes.

Scarlett, if you can read this, please consider adopting Jangbi/not stabbing him in his sleep should he join the team. He was/is also really fucking good, like two-times OSL champion good.
I know it's hard, but Jangbi is a really cool guy and he also looks like a young Jet Li, with a crooked smile that will melt the doors off of Uncle Scrooge's vault.
So... JangBi didn't want to retire, hadn't lost interest in SC2 and felt confident about his abilities.... then why did he forfeit his WCS KR Premiere League spot without even playing his games? Sounds a little odd.

I don't think he will back to sc2. He enjoy to much play to BW, and he can win many money with afreeca stream and SOSPA Proleague (and other tournament)

I think that's false. If you remember some interviews with Jangbang, he's one of the rare top bw-pro who genuinely enjoyed SC2 and promoted it like no tomorrow, even when a lot of progamers were like "I sucked so I was considering to retire", jangbang stated "I sucked but I still like the game" which is why his retirement came as a shock (at least to me) compared to the likes of ZerO, S2 and Bisu who clearly wasnt having a good time

Yes JangBi liked sc2, and he was a very good level (maybe top 5 protoss imo). I just say he enjoy very much BW, look this stream he smile and laught (and scream) every time, and he can win much money on BW than the large majority of sc2 pro.
I don't know why he has stop sc2, but he have these reason. Now he play BW, enjoy this, win money, and he has some projet on SOSPA (next SSL and Sonic Proleague). He could be still on sc2 if he wanted, so if he doesn't, i think it's because he like better his current situation.

this. I think that would be pretty huge. Jangbi is amazing.
We all know who January's favourite is when she sent out Stork again and again in proleague (which btw resulted in a 0-11 streak for Stork to end the season)
When HotS came out I used to lurk KR server a lot and added a bunch of my favorite players off the GM list. Jangbi has never fully quit SC2, every time I check his profile he's played a ton of games, and has always stayed in Masters. He likes using all three races also.

Not really surprised if Jangbi still plays. He was one of, if not the most optimistic about SC2. Makes sense he would quit if Samsung was fucking him over that badly. If he could somehow get released by KeSPA I'm sure a ton of foreign teams would love to take him.

Yeah makes no sense at all
Possibly contract nego gone sour. Jangbi wanna go foreign team after he finds out stork gets a better salary than him, khan refuses to let him go. Only way out is retirement. Anyone remembers if Jangbi retired after Stork renews his contract or other way round?
The problem is even if you retire, if the team dont release you, you are still bound by the contract.

yes, you guys are so close I can feel it On a more serious note, I don't see him coming back if this situation with Samsung doesn't get rectified at least. I'm sure or rather, it's quite possible that he still plays SCII on the side seeing as he said he used to play it back when he used to play BW and enjoyed it so that part is not surprising. Having said that, if he's heavily streaming BW, enjoying it and bringing in a much better amount than he was in SCII, I'm sure that would be another factor on top of the first one to have stay with BW and the thriving scene there.
Having said that again lol, I am interested to see how good he gets at SCII. We know he was doing really well or best that a decent amount of protoss so I think if he comes back and gets picked up by a foreign team, he'll likely enjoy it and all the traveling and fans, a lot like Jaedong but ya, slim chance atm imo.

BW fans pay streamers better is probably the biggest reason for most of the retired waiting for military. Also Mind Games trains Sc2 secretly for years and then comes back with a unique style and wins an GSL before he gets figured out.

jangbi said all of it on stream, it's not rumors
OP says SOME of the rumors are from JangBi's stream. Doesn't say which ones. And frankly even if we assume that ALL of this comes from JangBi's stream, there is perhaps a better source of unbiased information about JangBi than JangBi's stream, yes? Or at least a second side to the story?
If all the trash talk about Samsung is coming from JangBi himself though, one thing that it does seem to clearly indicate is that JangBi himself feels mistreated by Samsung, which maybe sheds light on his extremely abrupt "retirement." For example if he felt that Samsung was not properly paying over his prize money, maybe he felt that there was no point in playing for them in WCS KR.

In other BREAKING NEWS, KeSPA teams' business practices suck.
KeSPA teams are older and more rigorous, not just practice-wise. Players from KeSPA teams are or were basically treated like businessmen. They get paid competitive salary, and their achievements are marketing schemes. They get raises depending on the support they get from their sponsors and how well they do performance-wise, as well as how popular they are and how well they play in the marketing of their team. Stork was still more popular and more of an asset than the Jangbi that was playing better.
That was the decision made by the people in charge of the team, the company Samsung had nothing to do with it, directly.
Sure you might not like it, and it's changing little by little, but that was the most logical system to use from a Korean standpoint. It also makes tons of sense internationally speaking, and it helps maintain careers.
These days people only care about prize money, and giving money to the elite, rather than focusing on creating stable jobs like they used to. That's probably one of the biggest restraints holding eSports down at this point.

and how do you know he doesn't also love SCII? he personally said that he enjoyed the game in one of his past interviews and that's all we have. You can love both games If Milkis' translation is true(no reason not to be), it's possible that those factors played a really big role in why he quit SCII. He said he was enjoying it and he was becoming a top protoss player. I remember a PL game where he destroyed Flash, like literally caught his every move then just finished him off. Made it look easy and Flash was destroying everyone in PL. Suffice to say, it was very impressive. He was also RO32(or w/e it was) in Code S so it's not like Bisu who couldn't get into code A and didn't seem to like the game. Will he come back to SCII? I dunno, time will tell. If he gets a good offer from a foreign team, the above matters are fixed and he still wants the progamer life as well as enjoying the game, I can see him coming back.

ya, that's the game I was talking about. Pretty good read on what's going on and playing well and being solid overall. For the leenock game, to be fair, Leenock didn't play the greatest there. I mean, it seems like an obvious place to check yet he completed missed it? :S It was still good overall but that scouting error pretty much decided the game then again, it is his fault as well lol. hmm I still need to watch that BW game but his game 5 against Fantasy in OSL 2011 was the better one(from what I've seen so far). Holding off against the brutal assault of Fantasy then rolling him over to claim his first OSL gold.

The source I saw was Milkis doing a translation of what jangbi said on stream.
<Milkis> apparently <Milkis> 1) it's salry issue <Milkis> and <Milkis> 2) has to do with january <Milkis> and <Milkis> basically <Milkis> all the money he wonf roms econd places <Milkis> the team took it <Milkis> and the team told him he'd get a raise <Milkis> but they barely gave him any raises <Milkis> apparently <Milkis> a lot of teams <Milkis> wanted to pick up jangbi <Milkis> but <Milkis> january <Milkis> blocked the word from ever getting to jangbi <Milkis> apparenlty uh <Milkis> he made <Milkis> 60K in 2009 <Milkis> and 35K in 2010 <Milkis> lol
That is seriously appalling treatment, if true. If this is actually how it happened, Khan basically put him in an impossible situation and more or less gave no other options. Who knows, if he had gone to a foreign team and got to travel around the world and make good money, he might still be playing.
Damn shame, Jangbi was always my fav toss in BW and one of the people I had really high hopes for in SC2. Another reason why I fucking detest the whole notion of professional Esports.

Did he ever stream SC2 in the first place? Hell, was he even allowed to? Going "it might not be him playing" seems a little far-fetched but sure I guess it might be his grandma

If this is the reason he quit, that is so sad. He is one of the most talented RTS players I've ever seen.
I remember Flash once called him a "wall of skill" or something like that, saying that he was the only one who could stop him from winning his first courage tournament.

I have no sides in this since nothing is really confirmed but don't players in teams share their accounts with each other? I mean if Khan paid for the account they might've even passed it on to some b-teamer or something when he left.

That's true, but would that b-teamer really only be in masters, and is it logical for said b-teamer to be playing all three races with Proleague coming up? I mean, sure that could be the case, but I don't think it really adds up.
Edit: of course, it could be that multiple players are using it. In that case, it'd make slightly more sense though it'd still be odd.

Sounds reasonable and could explain the "He likes using all three races also" in Pisko's post.

Multiple players (especially Koreans) using one account has been a big thing since the beginning of SC2 and is the reason why following profiles is pretty useless. Profiles aren't proof of anything. Sorry to disappoint.

I know that. But do you really think b-teamers on an established KeSPA team like Samsung, currently preparing for Proleague, would play in masters? I know very well that the Korean ladder is tough, but I seem to recall Fenix's inability (I may be misremembering, but I'm almost certain it was the case for one player on another) to break into top 50 GM made IM reluctant to keep him on the team. Given that, and the amount of teamless (good) Koreans currently in Korea, I find the fact that the account is so mediocre in certain match-ups and no higher than masters odd to say the least.
I have no idea why people try to argue it can't be jangbi playing sc2 in his free time, srsly guys? Just to make some elitists here angry i would love to see Jangbi joining an foreign sc2 team and play again... (even if i like him streaming BW)
If we can find a replay of this Jangbi account playing as Protoss then we can compare his hotkeys to see it's really him or not. We have his WCS S1 and S2 replays as reference.

But let's not forget that someone else might be using the same hotkeys!

Hotkeys are like fingerprints, even if someone else is using the same hotkey setup the way he controls the army and production won't be the same.

No need for speculation with regards to when or if he will return to the game as a pro because he still has military service and the Samsung contract has to expire.

you are the elitist if that`s your motivation.
Ofc i am not 100% serious, but why try people to argue against it so hard when it isn't a big deal at all? Maybe Jangbi played even some lol and dota2, damn unbelievable right?
I really don't see the point of this thread lol.....or why..Great he never officially retired, but really has he done anything relevant recently? No, why do we care.

I just wonder, if he has not retired, it would indicate he is still under a contract. Probably didn't extend his contract with Samsung, but he would still be under Kespa contract, right? Meaning he would have to go through waiver process.
So how come they just let him leave and not play, without retiring though?

I don't know man I think making Code S is pretty relevant

Carried his team to a respectable Proleague 5th place off a bad start, getting into Code S and shows steady improvement, I don't think that's even near "irrelevant". Plus he is a god damn two time OSL champion.

Umm this is knda out of context. basically it was jangbi saying he formatted his computer so he deleted sc2 off his computer i didnt really mean it like "omg i hate sc2 i deleted it from computer" He did say on his stream mutiple times though that he is retired so im not sure if he was really just taking a break or not. There's some rumor going around hes going to quit streaming on afreeca though i hope its not true
If he's not retired, I'm a little bit peeved with him that he chose to forfeit his Code S spot during the tournament. Being in Code S isn't a privilege, it's a responsibility. That's why Naniwa got so much hate when he threw his series against Nestea. You can't just do whatever you feel like. Because he forfeited at the last second, another player got a free win. It's impossible to say that that didn't skew the tournament's results.

He earned code S then decided that he didn't want to play SCII for w/e reason. He says he's retired so I think it's best to take his word for it.
