Long ago, StarCraft 2 was ruled by a King. The King wielded magical powers, and used them to claim so many crowns he could wear a different one each day. At the height of the King's rule over all of Korea and the lands over the water, a young man dared to challenge for his throne. The adopted heir of an Emperor from a fabled land, the one known as MMA was immune to the King's spells and won battle after battle against the King's armies. His rebellion split the realm in half, with the commoners forced to declare their loyalty to the old King or the rising crown prince. The King was able to broker an uneasy truce, and for a time the land was divided into the two kingdoms of Mvp and MMA.
Alas, the reign of MMA was short lived. Like many other once-great kingdoms, the doom of MMA's kingdom came from within. Trouble brewed between his allies, brother turned on brother, and the ones he once trusted most became his worst enemies. The Emperor applied the deathblow, disinherited the young MMA, disbanding his armies, and dispersing them to seven winds. MMA disappeared into exile.
At the peak of his power in 2011, MMA briefly held the coveted title of Best in the World. He travelled the globe and won major tournaments on three continents, taking two GSL tournaments, an MLG, and an IEM. He became the only player to thwart Mvp at the height of his power, defeating him 4 - 1 in the Code S finals at Blizzcon. MMA at his peak was much like INnoVation is today: nigh unstoppable in two match-ups while vulnerable in one. MMA's bane was his mundane TvP, but the lack of top level Protoss players at the time allowed him ride his overpowering TvT and TvZ to multiple titles.
At the end of 2011, it looked like we would soon have two kings of StarCraft 2, with the founding king Mvp joined by the challenger MMA who proved himself in an honorable trial by combat. In another timeline, we might be talking about a dominant duo of WoL, not just Mvp standing alone atop the mountain.
But MMA fell, and having reached such soaring heights, MMA fell hard. A new class of championship level Protosses emerged to thwart MMA at every turn. Zergs unlocked the secrets of brood lord-infestor, nullifying MMA's trademark aggressive style. But worst of all, the once great SlayerS team fell to pieces around him, collapsing like a house of cards. Facing catastrophe both inside and outside of the game, MMA fell off the radar. For months he haplessly wandered the wilds between Code A and Code S, looking more like a ghost than a being of flesh and blood. Until he discovered a new home at Team Acer.
MMA's move to an aspiring foreign team by no means sparked an immediate revival, and there were no noticeable short term results to speak of. His first couple of outings with Team Acer were disappointing at best: out of IPL5 in the top 40, and HSC5 in the top 16. But more importantly it gave him a fresh start, as both a player and as a person. He escaped the spotlight, shed the baggage of the past, and rebuilt himself as a new player for a new expansion. Some of his flamboyance was traded in for more stability, some of his TvT and TvZ dominance traded for a considerably better TvP. While retaining his signature commitment to harassment and drops, he turned himself into a well-rounded player with a more solid core.
Slowly but surely, the results returned. Starting with clutch performances for Axiom-Acer in the GSTL, MMA started to enjoy some individual success again. Top16 WCS Europe. Top 4 WCS Europe. Top 4 DreamHack Bucharest. And finally, just a few weeks ago, he took first place at WCS Europe, winning his first major championship in over a year.
The old MMA is gone, buried with the ashes of SlayerS. But the will and determination to be a champion has survived, and those have returned alongside a new MMA. He remembers the glory his old self once commanded, and he remembers the cheers he heard at Blizzcon two years ago as he ascended to the throne. Will history repeat itself?

I think you wanted to say Iron Squid Chapter 1.
Caps lock isn't big enough to accurately portray the volume generated by the Iron Squid crowd :D
MMA has been my favorite player since GSTL March 2011 when he beat IM_MVP in the championship ace match on Dual Sight. I still remember that match in its entirety and it's what got me into watching Starcraft II.
Best part is, it's now free to watch on GomTV. I'm going to watch it now.

I have a feeling that if there is a player who is likely to win Blizzcon it's MMA. Like he said during his run to 1st place in WCS EU S3 a while ago he has a fire in him and wants to get back to Blizzcon so he can hear the fans cheering and chanting his name. He's already won it before so he's got the experience, and he wants to taste it again, perhaps a little more than everyone else.
He's one of the most well rounded players in terms of MU's going into the tournament. I think that combined with his determination to win Blizzcon again makes him the favourite, even if it's near impossible to pick one.

No excuse to not watch it and get hyped (unless you are a hardcore MVP fan and need to get hyped by watching him crush face...)
Yeah seriously I want EVERYONE to watch this. This is what made Starcraft 2 for me. I had never watched it and had only played it a little bit before (just enough to know how the game worked), and my friend made me watch this live with him. I cried tears of joy at the end. Unforgettable.
Edit: OP you should put the video link your post and tell everyone to watch it.
super well written. NB : MMA won the super stacked Iron squid I on May 2012. I guess it didn't fit with the chosen narrative but should be added, right ?

These are so well written. It kinda reminds me of the brilliant articles that TL writers would do for the pro BW leagues from days of old. I'm getting more and more hyped after each one.
MMA was never crisp as he is today. bio-mine fits him like a glove. I don't think he can take Bomber's TvT, but if he can I think he can beat Soulkey. He may be the only one in Soulkey's side of the bracket that can take Soulkey.
Honestly I think Soulkey is glad on his side of the bracket. Jaedong, Taeja and MMA are the only real competitors to the players from GSL/OSL. Rooting for whoever gets out of MMA v Bomber though :D
This article brings back memories of a time long gone, when we had a younger, more innocent and ultimately brighter outlook on the future of SC2. When MMA was leading the charge into a glorious new era when he forever left his impact upon us in these final moments:
I hope MMA can bring whatever it as that he had back then and leave us awe struck again!
MUN SEONG WON! MUN SEONG WON! MUN SEONG WONNNNNN!!!!!!!!!11 Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, so so so so exciteddddddddd It would actually make my life if MMA wins this tournament, god.
I need to calm down, can't stop smiling just thinking about it.
My first beloved progamer. MLG Columbus 2011 was the first big SC2 tournament that I watched and MMA impressed me so much. There were many awesome tournaments and there were many painful failures. Can MMA be Champion at Blizzcon again? I would love it, but I'm afraid it won't happen. Also it is heart-breaking for me to see MMA and HerO in the same side of the bracket.
If MMA somehow gets past Bomber in a bo5, I can maybe see him making a run to the finals. Soulkey is likely to be in the ro8, then probably Polt, so yeah.
However, I don't think he is championship contender yet (even though he just won one) There is no way he is going to win Blizzcon. But perhaps next year

Well, people thought there was no way he was going to beat Mvp in the GSL finals either. Stranger things have happened.

I'm surprised more people aren't pinning MMA as a favorite. I can see how the long year of being meh can affect his status but I truly believe he's back!

That was the most beautiful moment of Starcraft I have ever experienced. I don't think I'll ever experience a moment like that again, but I'm content to have seen that moment live.

yeah by far, and i've seen pretty much every major tournament and most teamleagues aswell there have been better games or even series, but the quality doesn't make up for the emotion and excitement
that beeing said, i often enjoy weird games much more, although ppl tend to do mistakes in such scenarios
i really wish MMA best of luck, but i doubt he can get past bombers solid tvt. however, if he does, i feel he still has the tvz killerinstinct to beat soulkey
Nice writeup, really liking these so far. Kinda get the G.R.R. Martin vibe by this article. (Idk, maybe it's because I've been reading A Song of Ice and Fire books too much lately).
MMA my favorite terran. Although I'm not sure about his TvT considering he got demolished by Maru's banshee harassment in the season 3 finals. However if he gets past Bomber I believe he may have a deep run. Either way, hyped!
I remember becoming a fan when I saw him dismantle Stephano with nukes at lone star clash I think? I clearly remember thinking damn this guy is on another level. Back then I never really rooted for any terrans, except maybe QXC. I hope MMA will return to his former glory, he is my number 1 terran player.

To this day the best Finals and the best game of all time in SC2. Brings a smile and tear to my eye
If MMA would grab the 1st place I would go bananas.
Its great to see MMA back in form! Its gonna be incredibly hard for him at Blizzcon though, I feel like he still needs a little more time before he can win such a crowded tournament but I sure hope he proves me wrong!

Wow.
Why dont you go and form an anti fan club to channelize your hate? MMA played really well and put up a great show against a very well known and probably the best TvT player out there. Both his TvZ and TvP are good enough to take out anybody right now. The very fact that he stands tall among the top 16 players of this planet is in itself the biggest possible achievement in my eyes considering how far he had fallen off.
Good Luck hating on some other deserving player after MMA wins something big again.
