Axiom is proud to present our newest (and youngest) player, Impact!
Formerly known as Woongjin Stars Mekia, the 18 year old Zerg player has joined Axiom under the new handle Impact. Impact is most famously known as one of the protagonists in the StarCraft documentary State of Play that follows the beginning of his pro gaming career. Since then Impact has participated in Proleague with Woongjin Stars where he produced results for his team against powerful opponents like Stork, Kop, and Bbyong.
This acquisition comes with impeccable timing as Axiom recently began searching for a Zerg after former Axiom player Miya retired in May. The addition of Impact brings back diversity in the team line up, as all other existing members play Terran or Protoss.
This is the first time Axiom has engaged in a transfer from a KeSPA team. The transfer was conducted in good spirits by Woongjin Stars Coach Ryu, who stated, “On Woongjin Stars, Impact was overshadowed by Soulkey and ZerO, despite his talent. I hope that he will adjust to his new team quickly so that he can show everyone a good performance in official matches.“

Congratulations! been looking for this kid to pick up ever since I watched State of Play!
|
Dah, I was hoping for YuGiOh, but hey this works too!
|
Way to go Axiom! Ever since Mia left they have been needing a good Zerg! Hopefully the former Mekia makes a great impact on axiom!
|
Oh yeah he was the rookie in State of Play, awesome to see him get a big opportunity like this.
|
Haha fuck you trade lock. Axiom ain't no eSF team (atm), don't count none.
Also Woongjin decline inc or something? Or maybe just Axiom > Woongjin?

Axiom probably pays better and provides more opportunities(and more freedom) considering he wasn't a top player in WJS' roster.

Ah true. I was thinking maybe the lure of foreign tournaments is what brought him over to the light.

cut the crap man, the guy is a rookie and as it is stated in the announcement: "On Woongjin Stars, Impact was overshadowed by Soulkey and ZerO, despite his talent"
Woongjin have incredible zerg players and with that rooster, the rookie hardly would have a chance in the main team.

Mekia was overshadowed by a chicken?

The last KeSPA player that Ax-Acer picked up seems to be doing pretty well, so I'd imagine the same will be true for this guy.

Nice! Unexpected, but definitely glad to hear it.
|
Great news!!! Hope he does well.
|
Unexpected, but I love this! 1-2 vs Fantasy is no joke!

Cool!

For the next thirteen months, the Korean eSports Association (KeSPA) and eSports Federation cannot transfer players to each other. This trade lock period will last until October 2013.
On Wednesday, August 8th, KeSPA, a governing organization over Proleague, and eSports Fed., which participate in GSTL, came to an official agreement on the matter of player transfers.
Both parties restated their goal on joint development of the e-sports scene and signed an agreement on player transfers and partnerships to protect both players and the leagues. They stated that the agreement will allow eSports Federation to aquire new sponsors and be self-sustainable, while KeSPA players switching to StarCraft 2 can become competitive in the long run.

hey he was my captain of FPL for a season or two
fokins ftw

This guy from State of Play

The trade lock isn't really relevant to us since we are not an eSF team. Everything was conducted entirely above board to the satisfaction of both parties.
|
Congrats! Even though I refuse to support Zerg players, this is a great addition to the Axiom line-up and definitely a needed replacement for the retirement of Miya. Congrats Sir. Knight. Biscuit! I will be cheering for your team in the GSTL! :D

He wasn't really "overshadowed" by SoulKey and ZerO though. SoulKey, more so than ZerO, but ZerO also was a lot better than Mekia.
It was known where Mekia stood in WJS. Saying that the rookie wasn't being given a shot in WJ is not fair to the players that were better than Mekia. Saying that Mekia has a better shot joining a foreigner team with players who aren't so top notch (yes they are good, but they aren't WJS....) that can also give him a chance at foreign competitions is a legitimate statement though.

Look, you're arguing with a quote from the WJS coach. That's a little silly. I'd also like to remind you that we are not a "foreigner" team, Axiom has always been a Korean team.

Nice to see Axiom picking up a Zerg. And working with Kespa on the pick up from Woongjin. Nice.

Yeah that was unfortunate, but hey it's Fantasy, there are worse players to lose to and it's not like it wasn't close. He can now focus entirely on performance in team leagues for the rest of the year.

The announcement would've had more flare if Mekia had beaten Fantasy But still nice to see Axiom pick up a Zerg

Ax.Impact sounds pretty brutal \m/

Grats to Axiom. A great team that is continuing to grow.

Awesome! Glad that he has a chance to shine on a team. Also happy to see Axiom pick up another player. It's been awhile since they last got a new player.

Way to lay down the law TotalBiscuit! It saddens me that no one found my joke punny. Oh well.

Congratz! Glad to see some young blood.

Fantastic signing for Axiom and Mekia has got to be pretty happy too, I imagine :D
|
Good pickup! A little surprised it wasn't YuGiOh but very nice nonetheless. Mekia knocked Artosis out of the first round of the qualifiers a couple seasons back if I'm not mistaken.
|
Sounds like this'll be good for both parties
|
Yay finally another zerg for Axiom! ^^ I loved State of Play and its really cool to see Mekia/Impact now get picked up by Axiom! Hopefully he can grow into a Korean with a personality and face like the others on Axiom! I also think Ax.Impact sounds pretty cool too
|
Congrats! Can't wait to see how Axiom helps him grow
|
Impact is awesome, great pickup for Axiom. Really really liking the way Acer and Axiom have flourished over the last 12-18 months and are really becoming more and more solid from both a competitive and professional standpoint. Axiom is an impressive organization, hope they keep it up! Impact fighting <3

mekia was always a sick player but he was overshadowed by all the superstars on woojing, itll be nice to see how he does in gstl
|
Hope to see him thrive under Axiom. Ax-Acer in GSTL does need a zerg pretty badly considering Scarlett is out of action for the time being too.

They should have one more zerg. I feel like 2 of every race the the minimum. But congratulations.
|
Congrats! Great news, as this should add some much needed depth and racial diversity to Axiom's roster

Congratulations to these guys!! Check's already found success on WW, and I have no doubt that Impact can help develop him as a player as well. His first two names were better though.

Is there a list of KeSPA players that switched teams or retired?

now he is on Axiom and will have the opportunity to get more playtime on stage, it is truly up to him to show results.
Axiom continues to be a team to watch and in my opinion, cheer for. Keep up the good work TB and team

Oh wow, the state of play kid! Was expecting YugiOh, but this is cool.

COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!

I had honestly never heard of this guy, but the fact that he is an up and coming player makes him a good fit for axiom I think. They've got a lot of quite experienced players and a really friendly team environment so young talent could really blossom there I hope!

Go go Mekia, I want to see him start it up for Axiom in their next GSTL match (where he is available)!

Secretly I hope that TB will also send him to foreign tournaments. but maybe said that too soon

Huh? What incidence? Sry, but I don't follow WCS AM closely... <.< edit: did one of them deliberately lose a game against the other?
|
The short version would be that Crank and Alicia were in the losers' match in the ro16 and Crank threw away a significant lead in both games in a way that could be interpreted as being intentional. He made a vague apology later on. I won't include too many details since I don't want to give out false information and I might be remembering wrong.

Decide for yourself, just watch the last minute of both games, it's pretty funny. TB was pretty pissed I think.

Edit: Seriously I always have to laugh at the way the second game ends, the cast is too perfect.

Kk, so just a breach of sportsmanship. Sucks, but at least nothing with criminal energy behind it. Got to be careful with that term in the sc2 community.
Anyways, I haven't followed the Korean scene for quite some time, so Mekia is a completely new name to me. I hope he shows as much promise as some people expect him to.

It looked pretty bad but Crank was suffering from a neck/back injury at the time and was barely practicing so when his allin didn't completely kill Alicia, he thought he was further behind than he was. If he wanted to throw the games he could have organised a build order loss which would have been pretty simple in a PvP. Some parts of this "community" always like to see the worst tho.
