Beside those 5, nobody have titles under their belts. Not surprising. Interesting thing is if people would do a chart that compared retirement times for pure BW gamers (like how long it took iloveoov to retire, etc) vs hybrid BW/SC2 gamers. I'd imagine SC2 had only a minor effect on the actual rate of retirement because a lot of these players were statistically ready for retirement.
Well base on that, I can tell you that you exclude the mandatory SK military service, in terms of "BIG" name players (AKA those who qualified for StarLeague) only really "retired" due to FOUR reasons:
1. Found themselves a new hobby/job (now the majority of the foreigner BW players went into Poker like Guillaum Patry, Elky, Rekrul, and Freedom (ex-WC player, albeit not foreigner) 2. RSI, namely players like GGplay who had better defensive timing than sAviOr was forced to retire. 3. Mathfixing, we all know about that. 4. SC2 transition. Yes you can say that MVP, GanZi, ZergBong, Iron, and JulyZerg all "retired" from BW.
On top of my head, the frequency of retirement in SC2 is far higher than BW.

On the other hand, so much overreaction in this thread, I can't help but smile. All of your pros will retire one day. All of them will die by the way, too, at some point. It's only natural. Basketball didn't die after Jordan or Stockton retired, SC2 won't die after Bisu retires. Who even wasn't any good in SC2 at all, to be sure. From SC2 perspective his retirement is so insignificant, something comparable to Eve's retirement. It's just that those nostalgia glasses sometimes have way too many dioptres, may distort your view... Mister, thats not the point. Look for posts 1 year ago, when people in hindsight dreamed about Kespa players "revolutionizing" the gameplay, ergo they wanted to feel something different they believed will come with Kespa Progamers.
I think its safe to say it didnt happen and probably will never happen.
For some people Kespa switch was a "hope", honestly I was sceptical, and after 1 month seeing how the best of the best of BW fail i already lost that dream and simply went on "oh well, lets see how one my favorite players fail in new game".
The insatifaction in this thread is a mix of natural process coming to an end (as you say) AND the big fail of Kespa switch. And be honest the natural process you speak, it probably came sooner because of SC2 and current balance of Korean Esports (where Starcraft is seconhand trademark).

Iloveoov would be an unfair example, from what I heard he played for a shorter time than most players at his level.

Even though I was expecting this, its still sad. GL Bisu...

I'd attribute a lot of the retirement to the fact that most of these players are near military service age and they wouldn't have had enough time to make it worth it to continue competitively. Bisu was definitely not doing very well in SC2 and he would have had to retire in the coming months anyway because of military service.

Shitloads of people is basically forced to join a new game
Some retire and decide to go on with their lives.
Obviously, the game is just DEAD.

He could still postpone his military service if he felt there was a "hope", see Stork, Nada etc. I don't know the details whether some individuals can postpone longer or not. But it seems he (and few other retirees) could still easily play for 2-3 years.

Good luck to you, Bisu. A shame you couldn't make it work.

Totaly understand him. To bad though, he was my absolute favourite BW player and I would have loved to se him back at the top in SC2. But it was clearly not going to happen. GLHF Bisu! <3
