For a long time, we have looked for a sponsor who would not only provide us with peripherals, but would be exciting to work with. With Tt eSPORTS, we've found a partner that makes high-quality equipment, understands the eSports community and understands ROOT. With Tt eSPORTS providing each of our players with a mouse, mousepad and headset from their extensive catalog, we are able to make sure every player has the gear they need.

Presumably they also get money for important things like toilet paper and chips.
Also, grats Root. It's nice to see a group that sees how much NA is a hope devouring vortex and fights against it as hard as it can.
i would certainly be interested to know if they are willing to divulge. all money is good money with respect to sponsorships. i just thought that sponsorships were more significant in terms of monetary value usually considering the considerable exposures that teams, including ROOT, which is a fan favorite in NA, would bring to the table. just surprised me that they would only provide a mouse, mousepad and headset--if that is the case.

The peripherals are what the fans see. They want to use what Catz uses. What team has ever said "We got a new sponsor that is giving us lots of money!" ? None. EG gets sponsored by Razer, they say "We will be using their keyboards, mice, and mouse pads" and Astro "We will be using their headsets"........ How is this different?

its a good deal for ttesports for sure, but thats not what i am asking. i am asking if its industry standard for sponsors to give so little to a team and be called a sponsor--$500-1000 is a drop in the ocean for a company like ttesports.
i always thought that sponsorships are significant monetarily. this is actually surprising to me to hear that its so de minimis.

Even in pro sports, someone that provides all of your gear for free would be considered a sponsor. Especially if they're continuously providing it.

I'm pretty sure it's worded that way to make sure we all know that DAS is still their keyboard sponsor. ROOT is telling us that the TTE gear they will be using is mouse, mousepad, and headset. Presumably, like most sponsors, not only do they get the gear, but money. They aren't going to put in their announcement "our sponsor is giving us x$ a month". No one does that. ROOT is flashing TTE gear and logos on streams and at tournaments for monetary incentive. This is sponsorship.
When Astro sponsored EG, did you think all they were getting from Astro was headsets?

i don't know what they received. thats why i asked. they can respond, or not, as they see fit. i was just curious.

I think that's about as appropriate/useful as asking how much money Monster gives to EG or The Little App Factory gives to Liquid.
(Hint: Not very.)
He was just curious about how much it costs to sponsor a team, he's obviously not asking for an exact figure, he just wanted to know if buying a couple of headsets/mice is all it takes or if there were significant amounts of money involved as well. It's a perfectly reasonable question and I'm curious as well. I would expect it to take a lot more than what was implied by the original post.
These reactions however are not very useful. If you don't know anything then why bother replying?

I'm also curious (I personally wondered how much they give before daphreak asked, but it's really none of my business), but if you read her signature, she likely knows a bit more than you or I about the subject.

yes. i wasnt trying to imply anything negative about ROOT or anything. i just feel that a team like ROOT deserves so much more than just peripherals if they are advertising your company. they get a lot of attention from the community (i.e., prospective customers) and deserve a lot in return from their sponsors.

Don't worry about the negative reactions; a lot of people are curious (myself included!) and are interested in things like this.

Just saying, a TT mouse can range $60-100+, and the same is true of some of their headsets. Plus a $20 mouse pad for every player, that's a pretty substantial amount of money given ROOT has like 20 players on their team.

I'm continually amazed at how blue-eyed this community is. You think some mid-tier NA team is getting buckets of cash from their sponsors? No, that's not how it works. I was on a pretty big team in another game sponsored by TT and we got gear and nothing else. No money, nothing. Just mouse, pad, headset, keyboard... not even for all the players. In return they got their logo plastered all over the team site and in the clan tag.
My point is that root really is a very small player in an already small industry. Most SC2 "pros" don't get salaries, at least no more than a token salary that's little more than pocket change, and most teams don't earn any real money. There are exceptions, presumably EG for example, but for the most part people need to tone down their expectations when a team gets sponsored by some company like this.
Just getting gear is honestly impressive for any team that isn't too big or well-known, so props to root and gl in the future.

ROOT's budget includes a house and at least the minimum needs of about ten players off of 4 main sponsors: Twitch, Das, AverMedia and TTE (forgive me if I've forgotten someone). I'm not sure how you're adding up your math, but by my guestimate, that's about $1,000 a month per sponsor. I'm not sure how godlike your team was, but ROOT is more involved in streaming media in NA than any other team. ROOT players get on more shows and generally place higher in tournament than any other NA team, generally only exceeded by hired Koreans on EG and the like and the occasional Quantic/coL showing.
I know that on the world stage, the US teams are struggling, but on the NA stage, ROOT is really working hard and showing a lot of leadership.

Good for ROOT to have support for their team house. Sure, it's not stated anywhere that they will recieve financial sponsorship so this might just be gear to start of with and then they move on to giving more support. Lets all hope for the NA scene that the ROOT house survives for quite a while!
Most excellent. How does this clash with Das Keyboard sponsorship? Is that still going?
EDIT: Whoops. Sorry, I was trying to get ready for the Woongjin Stars vs STX Soul finals. Got my yummy alcohol, yummy food, the heater's on. + Show Spoiler +

You are aware the community raised tens of thousands for ROOT to move into that team house, right? Maybe I misinterpreted your post, but it would seem these sponsors provide little financial support.

If you know so much enlighten me. From an outside point of view, there looks to be a lack of a significant compensation in regards to any salaries or living conditions.

I've always loved it when teams (or people) could work out agreements like this. I'll use TTEsports equipment, EXCEPT keyboards, Das does that. - sort of thing. Not sure why, but really cool ROOT! :D

I pretty much like the Axiom way of thinking, where the players are not forced to play on certain hardware due to sponsors... I don't think hardware sponsoring is the best way to support a team.
