SK Telecom T1 captain BeSt will begin his military service on September 26th. After joining SKT in 2006, he was a key member of several Proleague campaigns for the team, winning the 08-09 season championship. He also achieved individual success, coming in second place in the 2008 EVER Starleague.
He will say goodbye to his fans through Star Hang Show (OGN show) which will be broadcast live on July 28th.
Nooo Not best. Oh well.. that means we get to see more Bisu. I honestly thought stork would be the first one to make that move to the military before anyone else but guess not.

Do SC pros go into special units like pop-stars and stuff, or do they straight up go into normal ranks?
Actually this has just been removed, no seriously like 1 week ago i dont remember which but a bunch of pop starts got in a scandal and the army decided to pull off the "famous branch" for the military service.
All the VIP's that were in that branch got moved to another with regular joes (or how they call themselves in Korea).

Yeah it was on the news. A bunch of stars got a weekend off and they went drinking and stuff which pissed a lot of the regulars off so now they will be (if need be) sent to the front lines of war and so on. Real deal now
While often overshadowed by T1's stars, BeSt was always a PvT and PvP beast and was the only protoss who could beat Flash in straight up macro games during his God-mode period.
TT Sad, wish you the best! Is the military service the reason he retires? I feel like too many great players retired and im asking, SC2 why u kill Korean scene?

His results were declining and he hardly got any proleague time since the sc2 switch. He probably didn't like the game and lost his passion and decided now was as good a time as any to join the military.
NO! Now SKT will suck -.-;; At least the SK military will never be short of units... combined with Nada, SK is planning to march north to slay the King Beyond the Line probably.
Good luck to him, when I started watching progaming scene he was at his peak, unbeatable in PvP ! I hope he'll join the sospa scene ! We need a Dragon in the protoss line up !

Best, Reach, and Nada look nothing alike.

I think someone mistook BeSt for NaDa in the NaDa's Body thread based on that same picture. Probably some people who never read the next pages and found out that it's a pic of BeSt.

I'd honestly be surprised if Bisu and Stork don't go for military practice to after their contract runs out considering that it's going to be lowered considerably to.
Well many Old Kespa BW pros don't have the same passion for SC2. Which is more than understandable, since some of them played BW for half of their life and achieved so much.

and you are forced to be only with this new girl. She has more money, wears top modern clothes and its all fancy, but ... it feels different... it feels that something is missing. Hahaha pretty much. Except that you are being kind of mean. I mean the current SC2 pros felt the same thing for SC2 as the BW players felt for BW and then they were forced to change ''girls''. I assume that the majority of old KESPA players don't really like SC2 that much.

lol what are you saying. They stay in the e-sports scene because that's what they love to do its the same as you see former basketball stars being a coach, actors being producers directors etc. It doesn't matter if the team they are coaching suck, its just that they also want to help the pro gamers, since they have been on their shoes before.

I wonder what you mean by "meaningless game". Also Best isn't taking some different step career or life wise - he's joining the military like he's required to do. He may well come back to sc2 afterwards and be one of those coaches whom you deride so much.

Most likely not.
I don't see him abandoning SKT, not in a million years. It's like I imagine oov will take up his coaching/management role when he gets out this year.
Best wasn't even doing all that badly in SC2. Yeah his record was only 5-3 and he didn't get sent out all that much, but from interviews it sounds like he's helped a lot of people in SKT in a lot of different ways.

It's not the same game anymore -.-
He dedicated half of his life to BW not SC2. With being behind for 1.5 as much time as he has actually been playing SC2. I don't see him returning.
Going off of all of the people saying BW players don't like SC2 there are several components. For example, LoL plays a major role in that because it is currently extremely popular and fans flock to popular games, so it decrease motivation slightly and then on top of that the players who were monsters at brood war aren't having the same success because its like learning a new game for them, and it is very annoying to try and learn something else when you were so amazing at something else. So that decreases motivation. I think as soon as Flash wins a tournament the BW community and SC2 community are going to go ape shit thus causing an in increased motivation for the game. But the one major factor in all of this is that the BW monsters have to win one in Korea. If thy do that motivation and passion will creep in.

Well for instance, Best was one of the 6 Dragons in BW. 2008-2009, Protoss was doing crazy good and he was one of them. He had really good PvT and PvP and good stand toe to toe with Flash's macro game.
Crazy moves... Monster toss. Wish bw Ace was still around Nada, Kal, Best and a lot more players still enrolled in the military - could make a very competitive Ace team (which would be ludicrous in its own way haha)

BeSt will always have a special place in my heart because I remember reading about how he was supposed to be the next big thing when I first came to TL. He had that one finals appearance and that was about it though.
All the best...best of luck...damnit, good luck BeSt with your military service. We never truly got to see your Godly macro in SC2, but I was fortunate enough to witness your BW career and will never forget your 30 Gateway games.

It's compulsory military service in korea. Pro gamers and pop stars can delay their service but often for sc players it is usually indicative or retirement as a pro player when they go do their military service.

I remember when he tore off his shirt after he won one of the SPL finals (I think?) and it was hilarious and awkward and awesome. All those flash games, way better rivalry than JvF, and him winning pvz's when you'd never expect it, dohsairs or no.

I'm pretty sure the main reason there's still peace between North and South Korea is to be found in the constant influx of awesome bw pros. Good luck to Best!
I'm so fucked. Just look at my signature (had it for years). sAviOr is gone. iloveoov is doing his military service. BeSt is now doing his military service too. I have no one left to cheer for on this god-forsaken Earth
I'll remember the games where he'd build like 10000000000000000000000000 gateways and before you know it, the camera zooms in onto Flash's sweating, defeated face. Back when only the best could make god tremble.

Darn /: He was and still is my favorite Protoss (on par with Bisu). BeSt was kinda really hyped like BaBy was, there was a great TLFE (or maybe it was on GosuGamers.net) article on him that came out in 2008 and got me really excited right when I started seriously watching Brood War. Then there were dohsairs (for those who don't know, he had a reputation for dumb corsairs) but sick PvP and BvT, he will be missed, hopefully we'll see him soon!
