I went on liquipedia, looked at the recent transfers, and I found that Arthur left WW. Then I saw that no one had made a thread on this in TL.
So here goes: Source
I don't mind elaborating a little bit. As part of our contracts there's a point at which the player and team renegotiate salary. They're based on the G7 contracts (though considerably modified) like I think most team contracts. Arthur asked for a raise we didn't think appropriate for a player that since signing only had his DreamHack Summer showing. That hurt his pride and unfortunately we weren't able to come to terms. He'll still get his salary this month and any outstanding reimbursements (I don't think there are any). I know with certainty he received last months salary, last month. We're very sad it had to come to this, we really wanted to come to an agreement. We also had an exciting opportunity for him lined up, as well as IEM Shanghai in the books. We would've very much loved to have kept him on the team. Arthur is a great player, has a strong character and was a great addition to the team. I'd highly recommend him to any team looking to pick up a good player.

That's why he gave up in Zotac yesterday !
Sad news for WW.
|
I like the transparency of what happened. Good luck to both Western Wolves and Arthur in the future.
|
Seems like a case in which an agent might have made the difference between staying or going, though without more details it is hard to say. Would really suck if Arthur ends up missing out on opportunities only because of a hurt ego.

I wonder where Arthur is headed to from here. Part of me says Mouz.Arthur might be a good fit or maybe Millennium , but they just added Lucifron and Vortix and who knows what kind of money Arthur was looking for.
Risky times to go team searching continue, assuming he was looking to continue on as a pro.

He didn't play agaisnt MarinLord in quarter final yesterday.

I like Arthur as a player, that being said I don't think he necessarily deserved a raise considering his results. If I were Arthur I would of been happy just being paid a monthly salary to begin with, knowing I haven't won or placed really high in anything offline. Its a shame that things didn't work out, and I hope he can bounce back in the near future.
|
Well I guess that's what happens when you don't really post results. WW hopefully still on a growing rise though, don't want hear about more foreign teams falling if it doesn't mean that players find more homes.
|
he had a relatively poor showing in DreamHack (for a player of his repute losing 0-2 to Tefel and PandaTank) and he often loses against mid-tier European players in online cups...I don't think he's the talent he can live up to his potential now that he doesn't practice in a team house environment...

Didn't WW just lost SortOf?

He should join a Korean team or EG to get back in shape in my opinion. He won't make any good money joining a foreign team now and its unlikely he will make a jump in skill outside of a teamhouse.

I completely understand and agree with the decision of the WW manager. Would have done the same about the raise,i mean come on...
Arthur on the other hand lowered in my esteem...Leaving like that just for a raise refusal...Not even trying to talk about it later nothing....way to go kid. When he'll get a job outside pro gaming i hope he doesn't also quit like that.

XD In seriousness, a personal sponsorship could work as well, but Arthur lacks the face time with the English speaking community, that Polt or ViOLet have on their own in the US. (I also don't know where his English proficiency is at either)
I wonder what, if any ramifications there would be for Arthur seeking a Korean team for leaving contract negotiations. I mean Arthur is a good player, I just don't know that he is the player a Korean team would opt for if that makes any sense.

I remember being so proud for WW when they signed him
Hopefully he will find a good team that suits him.

I'm not sure it's easy for him to just go to one or the other. I doubt EG would be willing to shell out the $ for a mediocre protoss even if he is Korean. He should go back to one of the lower-tier korean teams and work his way back onto the bigger spotlight teams.

I wanted to see so much more from Arthur...

Methinks Arthur has a bad case of entitlement.
Love WW's transparency on this. Other organizations should take note -- you don't have to release utterly meaningless corporate-speak when an "incident" occurs.
|
We dont know how much they were paying him so we shouldnt speculate. A lot of these Koreans have no idea what they are actually worth since they werent paid before so I have always felt that they are easy to trick.
|
Well that sucks for them and him. Not that I knew that he was in there in the first place.

I wanted to see so much more from Arthur... Me too. I remember when SlayerS was in its end phase and they still played the EG Masters Cup and Arthur stepped it up so many times and in the end he went 8-2 in Matches and 17-7 in Maps, which was very impressive imo. So much potential, but I guess without the SlayerS environment his progress as a player was slowed down immensly.

Sounds like a typical case of culture clash Korean <-> Western. I hope he finds a new team quickly, he was one of the prospects of SlayerS. Best of luck to him and of course also to WW!!!

Indeed they have. When WW assembled their full roster earlier this year it looked like they could genuinely become recognised as one of the main premier teams of Europe. Then they got all-killed in the TeamStory Cup By Hope (at the time he was a complete noname-er) and since then they've lost SortOf, their best foreigner (and arguably the best player of the team).
The roster is still fairly strong, bolstered mainly by Sting, but once again they're looking very light.

Haven't really heard much from the team or Arthur in a long time it feels. I remember Arthur making those ipl starts in team league and owning. But than he just vanished like ipl and slayers.

My point is that he agreed to a certain salary the day he signed his contract. His results lets be honest haven't been better since he signed, hence a raise would not be acceptable as a manager point of view.
If he wasn't satisfied with it in the first place he shouldn't have signed,i guess WW said to him when he signed that he would eventually have a raise if he had good results.
PS : WW seems like a serious team to me,even the basic salary should be average for a pro-gamer.

Gonna throw in my two cents here, going off of the assumption that his salary was decent and allowed him to cover his living conditions and such.
So you go to the manager and you demand a raise. He refuses it. Why don't you show him that you deserve it, why don't you earn it? Compete in online tournaments and qualifiers, own nerds, get invited or qualify for tournaments, show him that you're good and tell him to send you to tournaments. And even then, you can still earn a little extra cash just by competing more. Hell, there's 8 Go4sc2 cups in a month (12 if you're a premium ESL member), 8 ZOTAC cups, both of these franchises also have monthly finals with pretty good payout, and then there's stuff like EnerJ cups and the odd South East Asian cup.
He's proven his chops in such tournaments before, hell it's only been 2 days since he crushed StarDust 3-0 in the finals of the latest NA ZOTAC...
In the end it's his choice to make and I respect that, but I wish he hadn't picked the easiest way out, gambling that someone else will pick him up and meet his conditions... ~_~

This is sad i've always been a fan of WW and Arthur. Hopefully Arthur finds a new team soon.
