Interesting show! I am very surprised that they didn't use this strat: + Show Spoiler +
Two people play with only each other, 1-2, 2-3, 3-1 x3. This gives them a score of 4 and 5, also eliminating the risk of having cards left. It will not give them the win, but it is very safe. Thoughts?

in this scenario you will just survive and the one with the cards at the end can still pick you unless you win. It is safe that you won't get any remaining cards but you are still at risk
Certainly the best strat would be pairing up and giving all 9 wins to a person. This person then makes the second immune, as Yellow should've do in the first place with Junsuk. Of course, this would be problematic if more than one pair did it.
Really cool show, so many mind games, reminds me a bit of mafia in some ways.
Yellow made so many mistakes in that game - 1.) leaving his garnet behind in the room and losing it, which eventually was used against him as a 'bribe' 2.) not keeping track of the point leaders/how many cards everyone had left which led to: 3.) panicking and changing his plan from the 9 point plan to just 5 points to save his partner in case he didn't win 4.) Lastly, he picked the wrong person in the death match.
He picked the wrong person because why would you pick someone who got played so hard by her own team and was so weak in character that she was getting manipulated till the end. Even if she was grateful to you for saving her, she's not much use to you in the future rounds. Whereas even though his original partner is potentially more of a threat in the long run, he makes a much stronger ally for now. You need to do anything you can do not get into the death match in future rounds. If the group as a whole sees you as a threat, they can pretty much ensure your loss in the death match.
Also, you want to pick someone you can read/predict/trust better. She will do anything to survive and when you have limited information, you cant predict wtf she's going to do. Whereas you know the other guy he oringianlly partnered with is playing to win based on their initial plan and him not deviating or betraying him.
"BoxeR is the cheap one!" He certainly embraces the fact he's come 2nd so many darn times lol. I only watched the first episode so it looks like I have a lot of catching up to do.
Yellow is so amazing in this show! I haven't realized that he is so smart like this and yellow is getting more popular. He's suck at team games but shows thrilling plays at 1:1 matches!
first time i see this thread, i wanted to check out 1st episode but its blocked, check the end of thread to see if there is a fix, finds out that it already ended and got spoilered the winner of it, now im really not in the mood to watch it anymore....
The English subs are so bad I found them utterly unwatchable. There's like 1-2 minutes of rapidfire dialogue and all the subber does is put down "...", no matter how you see it, that's plain unbelievable. Conversations between contestants are the most important part of the show! Heads up if you are watching the youtube version, the english subbers may have removed some parts of the episode for no reason at all. The full episode is 1 hour 9 minutes.
So relieved that it's fully and competently subbed in Chinese as well. They translate close to everything, even the little pop-up emotes!
Why didn't Yellow go through with his plan of getting 9 wins and saving his ally? It was pretty foolproof, did he plan to screw over his partner from the very start?

He overestimated everyone else and thought that someone else would do it as well. Then he wouldn't be able to save his partner because he'd be tied for 1st and his partner would be last.

Yeah I guess bigger partnerships would be able to get even more than 9 wins, if coordinated perfectly. However if he thought so then splitting the wins 8-1 and hoping for the best would be the strongest safe strategy for a 2-man team, as the spare card will always ensure someone is at 0 wins.
The ending of the card game was really nail-biting too, I wonder if he realized before taking a card that she could just have given another card to anyone else to play a match and strand him with the last card.
man. the subs for ep1 was terrible, missed half the dialogue and the rules...would be good if someone posts the rules of the 1,2,3 game as i'm still confused in regards to how having left over cards effect you. =/

Each player has 9 cards, 3 each of 1, 2 and 3. Higher cards beat lower cards and increase your WIN count. Same cards will tie. Each card can only be used once. You are free to transfer cards to willing players but cannot destroy or dispose of them.
At the end of the game, player(s) with the highest win count will receive a garnet. If there is only one winner, he can pick another player to share immunity with him. The player with the lowest WIN count will go to DeathMatch mode and can pick an opponent for the elimination game. If you have any unused cards when time is up, your WIN count is zero.
One of the basic concepts of the game is simple, there are an odd number of cards, so someone will inevitably be left holding 1 or more unplayable cards, meaning someone will have zero wins.
Yeah the subs are absolutely horrendous. I gave up half way through the episode when I saw the "..." when everyone was having a heated discussion.
thanks tissue. i missed the "If you have any unused cards when time is up, your WIN count is zero" part. so i was scratching my head the entire time. moving on to ep2, much better subs
How did Park Eun-Ji know the final few answers in the Image Game? Was she just guessing? And yet it seemed Sang-min and Sungkyu were passing her the answers. How did they obtain the correct answers?
One of the later games, "Kong's Dilemma" was most likely created as a tribute to him. He also explains briefly how he got the nickname and what he thinks about it.
How did Park Eun-Ji know the final few answers in the Image Game? Was she just guessing? And yet it seemed Sang-min and Sungkyu were passing her the answers. How did they obtain the correct answers?
Its the other way around, sungkyu was the one who decided which was the answer for park eunji. She never actually decided on a correct answer, just the hint. Then, sungkyu will go for the least picked answer and show it to her via the number die. She would use it as the answer. For the first few rounds, her opponent have no idea what her strategy was, but yellow caught wind of it and helped her choose the correct answers. Finally, sangmin betrayed yellow by looking at his die when yellow showed it to her.
Thank you for the subs Clefairy, they're very easy to understand and visible. I really do hope you keep subbing them.
I'm watching this initially because of Hong Jin Ho but the show itself is getting interesting, and I'm particularly interested in the pool player Cha Yuram.
Kind of disappointed with the women in general While they were talked up as 'scary' or 'intimidating', feels like all they did was follow orders and stick with their team 99% of the time. The men made all the big plays in every episode. They were the extortionists and bribers, leaders and traitors, spies and intel agents, liars and schemers. You could argue about their backgrounds, but even entertainers like Sang-Min and Sungkyu performed very well in every game and entertained us all.
The essence of many of the games was the simplistic rules that could be abused by any alliance of players and turned around by traitors. In a sense, with some notable exceptions, it's more an EQ than IQ game, in contrast with the original Liar Game which was the hero having to struggle alone to unlock the secrets in every game (think Yellow's math card game play). So the women were out-IQ'd and EQ'd.
This show was really good. Kind of dull mid-season, but ended great! Can't wait for the next season, and I definitely think another famous ex-progamer might be in the cast.

Not really true. The fixed horse betting game was pretty much set up so that girls would reign supreme over the game due to the fact that they know how to spread rumors pretty well.
The 2nd last game showed the power of girls, she managed to play around with the other guy (I swear I cannot remember his name) by purposely giving him leads and outlasting him on the deathmatch. Was a treat to watch.

Don't know how good they are at that but all of them told the truth other than Eun Ji. Her lie was isolated and discovered when everyone pooled their clues together. Surprisingly she did not even win despite being the only liar - everyone else shared their clues fairly. Perhaps it's even more telling that the other players had already dismissed her as a threat and didn't even care to punish her for lying.
I would have counted it as a big play if she had lied and won as a result, of course. However IIRC she said to the interviewer "I can't trust anyone else, so I have to lie"? In a game where establishing your honesty is the strongest long-term strategy, so others can count on you later on, random petty lying is just looking for trouble.

Sometime between 30th June ~ 2nd July - The final episode of The Genius was recorded (Park Eunji’s blog).
On to The Genius studio gogogo~ I won’t spoil anything ㅋ You’ll have to watch the broadcast^^ It was really nice to see my rivals(?) after so long~ I took a ton of pictures like a journalist for the blog but Gura oppa said to cut it out ㅋㅋ Even when he says that I can’t bring myself to hate him Gura oppa is a charm virus. He was also wearing very cute socks hohohoh
I’ll upload the pictures after the broadcast!!
I’m really looking forward to seeing the parts of the remaining players ^^*
The Genius game is really popular among celebrities too. There are a lot of people who asked for a recommendation if there’s a season 2. There’s an explosion of interest.
We are not thankful because there are many things to be thankful for in life, but when we choose to be thankful our lives will become full of thanks.

July, I choose to be thankful.

5th July - Cha Yuram mentions ‘The Genius’, “I hope Hong Jinho survives”.
2013 Incheon Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games’ honorary ambassador, Cha Yuram, recently sat down for an interview an photo shoot with ‘Billiards’ to kick of July - the month the tournament opens.
Through the photo shoot, Cha Yuram shed her usual girlish image and showed off a new mature charm.
In the interview Cha Yuram revealed her resolution and anticipation for the 2013 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, and the usually reserved Cha Yuram also talked about how she came to join ‘The Genius’ cast and talked honestly about her thoughts on the show which drew attention.
Cha Yuram said, “I didn’t take part to win. I just wanted to be stubborn and prove to myself that it’s okay to lose to people.” She continued, “For that reason, I hope progamer Hong Jinho survives till the end. Hong Jinho survived without harming anyone else, and fights with his own skills. He doesn’t betray anyone, and instead was consistently betrayed by others yet he still survived. I’m not sure whether it’s because I want to live vicariously through him since he’s doing what I wanted to do on the show. There’s a limit to betraying people, and I want him to prove to the other contestants that you can’t be the last man standing by tricking others”.
The full interview can be found in the July issue of ‘Billiards’.
An impromptu gathering to congratulate Yuram nuna on her 2 gold medals..! Don’t we look really close for people who betrayed each other for garnets? We’re all close…

How should I comfort Hong Jinho…

It changed from The Genius game to boasting about strength ㅎㅎ
I thought the game in episode 11 was relatively easy, but I think that was because I didn't quite get what amounts to "the same content" in a question. Jinho's trick was smart though. I'm glad Kyungran made it to the finals, Sang Min was way too manipulative IMO (but that made the show probably better to watch)

They only made it two rounds so the contestants could get away with relatively superficial questions. If they extended it another round or two, things would have gotten much dicier. But it was good that Jinho figured out the trick, he would have won regardless.
I was a little sad that Sangmin got eliminated because I liked his manipulative style and his grand gestures. But I loved the way he got eliminated. He went out only as Sangmin could.
Thank you for subbing/posting these! Really enjoyed the show. Kim Gura seems like a bitter old man though, never seen someone who didn't get along with Jinho before

He's very bitter. I think maybe his parents were wrapped in paper, poked by scissors and crushed by a rock when he was young. He's been traumatized ever since.

Hahaha, yeah he made such a big deal out of that! I thought he was joking at first, but..
I really want to start watching this show asap with all these subbed episodes, but shame I still can't find subs for ep. 1 . Maybe there is that I'm just missing?

Man, you are doing the earlier episodes too, amazing! I was a bit bummed out I couldn't show my friends the show from the start.
Huge thanks for all the subs, Clefairy! I really enjoyed the show. And great to hear you're doing the earlier episodes - looking forward to watching them as well.
Fantastic work y0. Was rooting for YellOw the whole way so I was very happy with how the show turned out overall. Public Image++++. Also can't wait to see that crazy fuck Hong Chul in season 2!
Geez dude how can you sub all these so fast!? I'm a subber myself and I get lazy and start playing games every minute of content I sub lol, I take forever to sub a 20 min video. You are seriously awesome! Thanks again!

Same :D Though I will miss Yellow I really liked to see Yellow and feel better about being in my room all day infront of a pc
Looks like Yellow and Jungmoon are going to be on a new show about Puzzle and Dragons. Poong introduced them to the game during The Genius and they got addicted.
Wow, I never knew about this until Artosis mentioned this in the during his DreamHack cast! This show is much better than any show like this I have seen on TV.
If you've missed this as well I strongly recommend it. I ended up watching the entire season 1 in just two days
Man, the time I finished watching ep 12 I already decided I'm going to wait for and watch S2 whether or not a starcraft-related person is included and the possibility of Boxer being in it makes me more excited!
Is someone closely related to the last season's winner appearing on the show by any chance? This question was so sharp it nearly cut me.
Also the season 1 contestant is probably Gura actually because they said that they + Show Spoiler +
were eliminated on an even numbered episode.
EDIT: Oh actually it could still be Sangmin because they answered a question asking if they were eliminated in an even or odd numbered episode with + Show Spoiler +
"The last episode they appeared on had an even number", so they could be talking about him appearing on the last episode! YAY SANGMIN!
EDIT2: Actually it could even be YellOw and BoxeR together!
2. What was the best skill of the person from season 1? 3. What episode was the person mentioned on? 2. Probably using Sunggyu skillfilly../ 3. They were mentioned after episode 6!
Are they a girl? Or a boy? ㅋㅋ 1 boy and... ㅋ
Is there another progamer contestant this time????! We can't reveal their profession, but there are a few people who are friendly with computers..!
Is the contestant from season 1 retrying? Yes, a season 1 contestant's retry!
Is the 'person mentioned after episode 6' a celebrity or a non-celebrity? They're a fa..famous person........
Are these two or any one of them currently not with a regular job..? I think it's probably not 'regular' ㅎ
Are both of them men? Or women? 50/50? One man and.... ㅋ Another man! The two people to be revealed are both men.
Does the person mentioned in 3 happen to have a big head?? ^.^ I don't think it's small....!!
Are the two people mentioned related in any way? .....Yes!
And the questions with MAJOR SEASON 1 SPOILERS! + Show Spoiler +
2. Was that contestant eliminated in an even numbered episode in season 1? The last episode they appeared on was an even number~
Is someone closely related to the last season's winner appearing on the show by any chance? This question was so sharp it nearly cut me.
Has the retrying contestant been chosen for at least 2 deathmatches before? The question was so sharp that I had to change my pants.... They've participated in at least 2 death matches My question was about being 'chosen' but to say participated... I'll omit any further questions ㅎㅎ ㅎㅎ You know already...
A famous male with a big head that is friendly with computers and doesn't have a regular job and was mentioned after episode 6 is obviously SlayerSBoxeR. Then there's the answers to the spoilery questions.
Then there's another man who was in season 1 and was good at using Sunggyu (though this was more characteristic of Sangmin). They hinted that there were a few people who were friendly with computers so it could be this man. Then they said that the two contestants being revealed were related in some way and BoxeR does not have any relation to Sangmin or Gura. It has to be YellOw.
Well, everyone knew the guy had the right look to be a model when he was younger. He might not still have his looks, but he sure is getting a lot of work now! Happy for my ol' boy YellOw as he continues to go strong.
Okay I was just watching this today and 1) I hate you for posting this, it was so awesome and I couldn't help watching, 2) THIS IS SO GOOD WTF, I have so much respect foro yellow, he's just freaking amazing, unbelievable. Wow. I think I'm actually a huge yellow fan now ^__^
