I'd bet a lot of the people talking shit about greg in this thread would snap in mere days if they received 1/2 the level of harassment Greg does. He is a bigger person than most of you, and not one damn person here hasn't got pissed off and said something they shouldn't have, many times.
Edit, I don't take any issue with EG, they as an organization have the right to decide who is on their team, they have a right to decide that a player is not presenting the image they want to portray. It's volume and long term barrage of personal attacks people make against Idra that bugs me. i 100% agree Except you dont see the other, oh i dont know, millions of celebrities across the world snapping like a twig every day. Those that do are often out of a job in seconds or become laughing stocks. Idra is not the only pro-gamer, or well known identity to get served shit every day, he's far from it. They all do. By your logic every well known personality who has been given shit is allowed to verbally rape people on a daily basis. Note: Idra is a celebrity in the SC2 world, its a fair comparison Uh, except you do see celebrities snap. Sorry to use American examples but, Christian Bale, Chevy Chase, Charlie Sheen, Alec Baldwin, Mel gibson, etc.. Chris Brown physically beat his woman and is still popular. And mostly these examples are over some petty things. Sure they sometimes end up "out of a job" but really what takes a hit is just the brand/recognition their name carries. so I think this is kind of off-base. Maybe not "every day" they snap, but certainly they do. How many times has a celebrity reacted poorly to the papparrazi or destroyed their cameras or something? Imagine the twitch chat being like the worst kind of papparrazzi, extremely scrutinizing and watching your every move. And in addition to that, we're an openly extremely rude group, shouting insults and the dumbest kind of interactions constantly 2 reasons this is a terrible comparison to celebrities. for one, a streamer has the means to ignore everyone who tries to harass him online. it's even more easy to ignore chat and skype is possible too. it's nothing like real life harassment. it's annoying but NOTHING like that other reason, those celebrities actually produce quality content, some of them even produce unbelievable art pieces. how the fuck does that compare to grack fields? and btw he could still earn thousands of dollars just off ad venue, because fanboys will give him the stream numbers. i remember Catz used to make like 5k per month off twitch tw and his numbers are nowhere near grack's. you people should stop pretending a treagedy happened. players get fired for less, and much faster too, not after 3 years, and Grack still has the ways to earn loads of money with a joke job. Actually there is a celebrity comparison which could be made. Kardashians. Or rather, inverse Kardashians. They are famous for being famous, but now they are using that fame to go "legit" with other things that are actual products/etc, making their brand into something sustainable beyond being famous.
Idra inversely was famous for actually doing things and having some skill. Now he's well known because he's well known (and because in the past he was good at SC2). He's basically turned into a caricature and has no brand, and is now well known for being well known, basically the opposite of people like the Kardashians.

Not gonna happen. Someone who can generate 200 TL pages in ~1 1/2 day will always find a team who pics him up.

better to kick him out because of disrespect for the "community" than kickin him out cuz he sucks ass and didnt accomplished anything and will never. so thanks to eg his rep isnt destroyed totaly. hes just a disrespectful awesome skilled pro who does not belong into the holy grail of esport. LOL

I feel like a big factor is the way he just rage quits games that are not even close to being over on a continual basis. I was watching WCS America the other day and Greg had 3k/3k banked with over 100 larvae and he rage quit because ravens are pretty good. I've never seen another pro quit like Greg. EG has always said that they want to deliver an exciting/quality product to their fans and seeing him rage quit like that leaves a sour taste in every fans mouth.

Is it bad that the first thing I did after reading this news was laughing ? I stopped playing SC2 a long time ago, but I remember that in beta/early release EG had the reputation of the "bad guy". Who knows why...
|
I was just watching idra polt game 1 and I mean by every possible account he could have taken that game. He was in a very winnable position so I mean I just dont get why he quits that. I would be angry as a team or sponsor if the player just gave up very winnable important games all the time for no good reason

They snapped - they lost their jobs - they became known for their bullshit as opposed to their skill.
I dont see how it is any different really. Idra will recover from this, find a new team and carry on playing starcraft, just like those celebrities carried on doing what they do, but for a while there shit was rough. (Unless your lindsay lohan, then your just screwed.)

Yea I don't think it's the best comparison, I was more refuting the Sri Lankan guy who said celebrities don't snap. and secondly, your definition of quality content is subjective.
I'm just saying, it probably wasn't as glamorous a position as the haters make it out to be. I agree with his firing and I know he'll do just fine in the esports world. It says a lot about you that you would call it a "joke job." Anything you do that reliably pays you money is a job.

It depends if they are willing to put up with his shit. Idra got paid a lot of money and he still fuck up over and over again. Also Naniwa was teamless for a very long time and no team wanted him despite being one of the most popular players in the scene.

This is just a publicity stunt. Idra will join EG#2 with Naniwa to form the ultimate badass duo, creating even more drama for esports ----->more money
