"i will not be leaving esports"

This really makes it sound like he's leaving SC2 or I imagine he'd have specified SC2. No?

Huh. "...almost three years..."
I think EG is older than that. Idra was closely associated with EG's SC2 roster, having been on it practically the entire time it's existed. But he wasn't on EG in BroodWar. And EG has other players, other games.

It's not that Idra is BM. Or bluntly, brutally honest about his opinion. Or being insulting at the same time. Or his results. Garfield said it's because he's turned from being "BM" to his opponents, to being insulting towards all of the eSports fans in SC2 (maybe all of them in total). If you can't see how that might be a reason to let him go (yes, he loves his fans, I know, but I just said ALL fans) then you probably need to step back a bit to get a wider picture.

Or not. Whatever. You'll do what you all want to do anyways.

I'm just sayin'.

+ Show Spoiler +
Doesn't really effect my feelings towards EG, or towards Greg "Idra" Fields. Does make me feel sympathy for Geoff "Incontrol" Robinson.

Edited:

Sweet Jesus, can we give this:

A fuggin' rest? Everyone drags that quote out - it's nearly a year damn old. A lot can happen in a year, and people can change how they feel. Especially if your are the spotlight of intense scrutiny from everyone, including your fans, and give a damn about actually caring if you can match the expectations that they are dumping on you. I don't doubt that he still thinks his fans are great, but don't extrapolate that to all fans everywhere. Under pressure from others but most especially from himself to do better, it's quite easy for people to turn around. And I think that might be what happened. The only one that knows that for damn sure is Idra. Maybe he spent too much time reading and posting in these forums.

This "stockholm syndrome" joke is neither funny nor well founded.

Idra's recent form has nothing to do with the fact that he has gained fans throughout his career and those continuing to support him are actual fans.

The number of people taking so much delight in this has made me truly ashamed to be a part of this community. It's one thing to dislike a player or condemn their actions, but it's another to go out of your way to shit on someone and anyone that has supported him because he got fired.

Yes, causa Idra really didn't shit on anyone.

If you dislike him for acting like that you have no excuse for acting like that yourself particularly when you yourself are the one condemning such behavior.

Why are you doing the mature routine in a community where the average age is what.. 15-16? If that...

I think a good move for idra might actually be to move out of the professional playing sphere and into commentary. On the few occasions I've seen him cast he offers some of the best analysis I've seen.

How does someone training with the CJ team get tricked by a dumb chinese zerg player who isn't clever and simply hopes? I mean seriously LOL he mind fucked you and you still can't even realize it after the fact. Ignorance isn't bliss. Ignorance will keep you in the CJ team B-house and off TV for another year until you finally realize it's time to pack your bags and get the fuck out.

All I'm asking of you, Idra, is to show some respect. Show some respect to the community, your team, the opponent that just raped you, and most importantly yourself by just frankly admitting to the fact that he outplayed you in the series and raped you straight up. No one is judging you saying F91 >>> you. F91 certainly was >>>> you that day and it was not due to luck. It was because he raped you. No one gives a fuck whos better between you and F91. You both fucking blow as far as anyone is concerned so don't worry about that.

I didn't act like that myself, I just pointed towards the double standards. In other words, he is on the receiving end this time yet he's still come ahead in all this. The money and following he's earned with horrible behavior so far can't be taken away so I don't see how he is such a victim. He'll find a new job easily and keep riding the wave, all this as a reward for his lack of respect towards people who make it all possible for him. And he's still going to be supported by the same people he takes a dump on.

I was speaking more in general than towards you specifically.

It's incorrect to say that Idra's poor behavior is the primary reason for his support, it has given him more attention. The way he has played in the past, at events or on his stream, his casting and his time on community shows have earned him fans. He hasn't come ahead in this considering that he has lost one of the higher salaries in the scene over this.

I don't know everything idra's every said about his fans but he usually shows appreciation to his fans as opposed to all of his viewers or the community as a whole.

It is disgusting how esports is getting poisoned by "political correctness"
and this decition from EG is without a dubt because of their sponsors, and that proves just how little the sponsors know of this community.

Esports is like record-companies, not political parties, money comes from attention and since we are not in the buissniss of ruling the world, we do not need to take into consideration wether or not the player's actions piss someone off, we are not politicians.

Record companies make money of any attention their artists get, and depending on the immage of the artist, acting "professional" is not required, considering idrA's immage i was not even surprised by what he wrote, and releasing him for that is a misstake from EG, and if they were pushed by the sponsors it was a misstake from the sponsors, from a buissniss point of view, this was a real shitty decition.

The sponors need to learn that they don't make money in Esports as politicians, but as entertainers, which is exsacly what idrA is.

So telling people to let a childish behavior like Idra's slide is the mature thing now? Nobody is burning him alive and nobody is saying anything even remotely as bad as Idra has said to other people (like wishing that they died of cancer because they won games against him).

He was pretty much exactly the same way in Broodwar: not a bad player, but with such a godawful mindset that it never really mattered. He was able to do well in the start of WoL because nobody knew what was happening and he could get by on pure mechanical skill, but the second that the game started being at all cerebral in nature, he started slipping off the board. Until he learns that a real sport of competition is almost entirely mindgames, he won't ever be a top-tier player, Kespa be damned.

Meh.
Even though teams have a public image to maintain, I still think honesty is the best policy.
Greg has been brutally honest every single time. He does not sugar coat anything.
I appreciate that honesty. It's something not a lot of people have.

I don't really care if Greg is out of EG. I will still cheer on him and still follow his games and support him no matter what team he is in, because he's one of the few non hypocrytical and straightforward players currently on the scene.
